8 THE QUILL
History of the Class of 1912.
It was the 26th of August, 1908, “and anon from the belfry the
sonorous bell sounded;” for school hid begun. A new class, the illustrious cass of ‘12, had assembled in the High School rooms to begin
a four years’ course. At first we looked on in wonder and amazement
when words familiar to Caesar, but “nova nobis” were uttered by Miss
Wilkins: but soon the unknown mysteries of “amo, amas, amat,”’ were
known to ail.
After many ups and downs we arrived in our private car in
the Sophomore class, with a loss of twenty members: but we still had
hope. Here we spent the term witli Caesar in History, Caesar in Latin.
Ceasar in English and Ceasar in our dreams. In athletics we do not excel.
though we aways kick at the length of our lessons. We always Treadwel when Prof. Hahn is near: and was there ever amore musical class ?—
where e’er the class of ‘12 is known to roam the Organ is always with us.
When school begins again we hope to be Juniors—but let’s net
borrow trouble. MIS. fue,
History of the Class of 1913.
Oh, what is so green as a Freshman c’ass,
If ever come things that are green?
But the exception that’s made to every rule
Has been reached by the class of ‘13.
We did not come in the proverbial green Freshmen, but as 4
class that knew what was expected of them, and lived up to the expectation.
Under the carestil guidance of our teachers, we have been safely
piloted over the rougher seas of school life, and the world inas lost its
verdant tint and taken a rose pink hue.
Not only have we distinguished ourselves in literary lines, but
have furnished men to uphold the glory of N. C. H. S. in athletics, and
well have they fulfilled their charge.
You will find us well represerited in the baseball and basketball
teams, and a Ireshman has even dropped into the football team; but to
cap the climax one Freshman has greatly distinguished himself in Senior
physics. All this goes to show how important we are.
Now after a year of strenucus efforts, relieved by literary and
athletic amusements, we will glide safely into the Sophomore class.
