THE QUILL 4] Girls’ Debating Society. For the first time in the annals of our High School, the girls organized a debating society. Great interest was taken in the club and many debates were put forth and argued in a manner that would cause a professional to feel proud. The membership was large, numbering thirty-three, and every meeting was well attended. The subjects about which we held our discussions were both interesting and helpful; interesting, because through them we obtained a broader, clearer and deeper conception of various topics of the day; helpful, since by speaking before others, we overcame obstacles both in language and delivery. Because of the studies which were growing heavier as the term crept to a close, it was thought wisest to adjourn until next year. In September next the club will again take up its work in earnest, and from the encouraging progress made this term, there is no doubt but that the girls will succeed in establishing a club of which the community will be proud. Boys’ Debating Society. The Lincoln Debating Club was organized on January 20, 1910, by the young men of the school. At first the students were very enthusiastic about it and gave their fellow members and the faculty some interesting and instructive debates. Towards spring the attendance declined, probably due to greater interest in athletics, but it is sincerely hoped that the Debating Club will resume its work in 1910-11 with increased vigor.
