. Grass Valley Sportsman's Club PIONEERS IN FIELD AND STREAM SINCE 1880 P. O. Box 1953 April 19, 1979 Grass Valley, California 95945 Statement of Policy The attainment of the ownership of the property at the lodge has been the ultimate hope of our club for scores of years. We have attempted to obtain the property on which our lodge is located at Weaver Lake prior to this time, either through purchasing or a trade, but these efforts have been to no avail. Now, we would like to pursue a new approach to this end, in conjunction with our 100th Birthday, next year. Due to our 100 years of endeavors in the area of field and stream, our on-going commitment since 1880 to do all possible in enforcing a strict observance of the Fish and Game laws of the State of California, our service to residents of the community by conducting Hunter Safety courses, our sponsorship of an Explorer Scout Post, our involvement with the area youth through our annual Trout Derby, and our annual weekend for Boy Scouts at the lodge at Weaver Lake, we hope it would be reasonable for us to request of Southern Pacific Land Company to make us a Centennial Birthday gift of the approximately four acres of land where our lodge is situated at Weaver Lake. This request should not establish a precedent for Southern Pacific Land Company, because of the unusual and unique criteria of the request: A 100 year-old non-profit organization which has been continuously involved in the community, the Fish and Game resources of the State of California, a pioneer in field and stream and a long-time lessee of the Southern Pacific Land Company. Under these circumstances, this gift should not affect any change in land values for remaining properties in the area owned by Southern Pacific.
