Sold by all Druggists in the State. IGHLY IMPORTANT to the SICK !—Is it not Awful to Note the Haggard, Sallow, Cadaverous Faces and Wasted Skeleton Forms we meet—Thisis not confined to the old, but we see the young, ablebodied and those in the prime of life, complain after being here somotime of illness ; some grow unnaturally fat suddenly ; others waste and grow thin; they cannot localize or describe theirdisease, yet they feeluniversaily unwell, mentally and physically ; some have pains and weakness inthe breast, limbs or body; they feel a wantol muscular and mental energy, a want of animation, and have fearful forebodings for the future, poor appetite, nervous irritability and sleeplessness ; theirskin is dry, and occasionally flushed and heated, thin, pallid and yellow. Now SuddenDeaths, Lunacy and Universal Debility ig too. too prevalent here ; and who wonders when combined with the climate like this, a dry air impregnated with elictricity and galyanism ? We have many who have passed through sickness, whose life is IN TEMPERATE and DEBAUCHED, or have seenothers who have been nearly Doctored to Death by quack medicines, or by the advice of “‘ The Faculty,’? who have impregnated them with mereury, calomel, &c. — For all such cases is Dr. Jacob Webber’s Invigoratingcordial Sanguifier most especially adapted, inasmuch as the above cases and symptoms did Dr. Webber minutely stuuy in adapting his Cordial totheir cure. It enlivens the Torpid Liver, ejects all Bilious matter from the System, causes Sudation, or Free Perspiration (so necessary to health), it purifies and Enriches the Blood, gives Strength to the limbs and Body. and is positively infallible inall Nervous Diseases, Trembling or Wakefulness. What Censtitutes Health ? Rich Pure Blood, Natural Perspiration, Good Appe tite for food, Sleep, Exercise and the Enjoyments of Nature, wilhstrength ofbody, Mind and Limbs,—Activis ty of the Liver, and allother natnral Functions ; sucha stateis felt by all, after using this—Sea sickness and Delirium Tremens. itisa preventative and absolute remedy for these. It removes all longing ortaste for liquor. Many inebriates have found that after ithas renewed and strenghtened them, quieted their nerves. it has caused aversion to spirits I have seen it cure some of jhe most frightful cases where delirium tremens have actually occurred, How One Feels After taking it. FTER taking it a general glow of warmth is felt LX through the chest and body, a strength inthe limbs amental clearness of ideas, memory, and exhilaration ofspirits: in afew daysthe patient finds that a univearl strength, mentally and bodily, nas gradually . part of him; that disease of every kind has left him; that his blood courses through his veins thin, rieh, and pure ; his liver, before torpid, is now active ; his ideas clear andineid ; his hand and nerves firm, he feels eapable ofany exercise: Thus have Iseen many very low from exposure, from disease, debauchery, excess, &c., rene vest wondertully by it. SOLD by every wholesale end retall Druggist in California. Price 3:two for $5. TS’ CAUTION—BPay only Quart Bottles. See that the Signature of J. A Medicinal Drink of Eminently ALUTARY QUALITIES, manufactured by himself exclusively, at his Factory at Schiedam, Holland and well known duringthe last twelve years throughout all the Atlantic and Western States. It is made from the best Barley that.can be selected in Europe, with the essence of an aromatic Italian berry, of acknowledged and extraordinasy medicinal properties. Ithas long since aequired a higher reputation, both in Europe and America. than any other diuratic beverage. Analyzed, itis a perfectly pure Liquor, inits effects a mild and wholsometonic. It is extensively used and approved by the medicalfaculty, the temperance people, heads of families, &c. In Gravel, Gout, and Rheumatism, in obstructions of the Bladder and Kidneys, and in General Debilty, its effects are prompt, decided, and invariably reliable ; and it is not only aremedy for these maladies, but in all cases which they are produced by drinking bad water, which is almost universally the cause of them, it acts asa sure preventive. For Fever and Ague it is one ofthe most efficacious preventives thatcan beresorted to The Aromatic Scheidam Schnapps, consequently in great demand by persons traveling, orabout to settle in new parts of the country especially, as wellas by many in every community, where it has become known, on account of its various other remediel properties. In all cases of a Dropsicai tendency, it is generally the only remedy required when adopted in the early stage of the disease. _ In dyspepsia maladies, when taken in proper quantities, as a diet drink, and especially at dinner, it is found by uniform experience, to be eminently efficacious in the most obstinate cases, when even the best of the usual remedies have faiied to afford more than temporary relief. In cases of Flatulency, itis an immediate and invariable specific, and it may be administered in diluted and proportionate quantities, evento Young Infants, in all those paroxyisms of griping painin the stomach and bowels to which they are especially subject, as well as the cholic of grown persons. ae Its judicious adoption in connection with the principal meals,or when a sense of exhaustion dictates its use, never fails to relieve the debility attendant upon protracted chronic maladies.low temperament and exhausted vital energy, by whatever cause induced. These are facts to which many of the most eminent medical men, bothin Englandand tho United States, have borne testimony, and which are corroborated by the highest written authorities. And Founder of the HUNTERIAN MEDICAL INSTITUTE Sixth Street, between J and K, Sacramento. OULD mostrespectfully inform those afflicted with Private Complaints, sueh as Syphilbs, Gonorrhoea, Nocturnai Emlsslous, and all the consepuences of Self Abuse, that he was formerly Practical Physician of Locke Hospital,in the City of London, where there are at all times under medical treatment, from fifteen hundred to two thousand, and for the last four years of the city of Sacramento. Thousands can testify tothe many radical and pertect cures effected; and it is well known that he is the only onein the State who has made a thorough and Perfect Cure after all the advertising quacks have failed. A Practical Treatise on VENEREAL. By Dr. C. H. TOZER, Saciamento, There are no maladies towhich the human family is liable of Deeper Importance either in a medical or moral point of view, than those arising from impure sexual intercourse. As medical men, it is our business to look at diseases merely asit affeets Life and Health; and our efforts are directed, notto the reformation of man’s vicious propensities, but tothe mitigation ofhis BoDILY SUFFERING. It is in this abstract sense that we write of Venereal Affectioas. Anditis inthis sense that the Doctor should address himself to their study. If his feelings are allowed toinfluence his professional pursuits, his qualifications will necessarily be limited to those subjects that are most agreeable to his tastes. To become an enlightened Practitioner, it is essential that he should be a liberal and ardent one; and affections, in their nature repulsive to delicate sentibilities, mustbe regarded in no other light than as morvid phenomenaof the Living Body. The whole business of the Medical art, when we take a low view of it and regard it only as labor, is a disagreeableone. In any form, dis »is unpleasant to look upon. The sick chamber affords no pleasant sights.— The physicviagis made the witness both ef physical pain and moral infirmity, Struck by disease, the attrac tive part of man’s nature are clouded over ; his pride is humbled: his intellect is disturbed ; his whoeln characcer, ina word, istransformed. Too often, alas, is sickness the consequence of his own folly. self-in dulgence, the gratification ofappetites, the exhausting toil ofavarice, the feverish labors for human applause, all preduce their baneful effects upon the Con stitution. Brttothe medical attendant, the moral aspect ot these facts are not to have any influence upon his skill or his oares. At the best, human nature is buf weak. This is the first truth for a medical man to learn: and in whatever way this weakoess is exhibited, the philanthrophic heart will feel that it is a ple: ure, wellasa duty, to relieve bodily, infirmitie whenever and however they appear. This isthe higher and nobler view of medical science. It devotes itself te the mitigation of pain, the abatement of disease, the restoration tohealth. In doing th its ministez must be the spectator of much thatis ¢ greeable. But he is rewarded by the lofty sa iction of feeling that although personal comfort is sacr ed and sympathy is often painfully excited, yet itis through sucha roa that Benevolence has the widest scope, and mects with the richest return for its labor In this view, all dise are alike to the faithful physician. He makes noc netion between the causes that have developed them. He sees man suffering, and all his facilities are employed to give him healt! Disease he regardsasa misfortune, and not as a punishment. Of all the affections that affict man, there is no one more terrible in its consequences than SYPHILIS, Dreadful as it is to the person who first contracts it, frightful astrequently areits ravaes in his constitu tion, ending occasionally, in destruction ; yet is a disease of deeper interest, and more te be lamented when it is trensmitted tootfspring. Childrenoften come into -the world with the disease hideously to the eye ; covered with blotohes and sores ; with wrinkled faces, having the appearance of old age; and itis ;robable that every particle ofthe living organism is equally tainted with the poisonWhen such a condition exists, it cannot be doubted that life will too frequently be short and full of pain. SCORFULA. CONSUMPTION, and other diseases that are sometimes he itary, are in many cases, its it; and one way tostay the dev iting march of arfully fatal affections, is, as far as practicable to ERADICATE SYPHILIS FROM THE WORLD, Would it not seem that a disease so prevalent and so direful, onght to excite the deepest interest among the medical men, both as respects its true pathology and its treatment ‘-—What execnse can he offer for his deficiency, whocalls himself a surgeon, and yet does not even recognize the disease when he sees it, and is ignorantofthe best means of checking it and preventing any future evil cor ces? Is it enongh for him te say thatto the ir tion the disease is a loath some one ? that isa dis ble one to have, and a disgusting one to treat? bably, satisfy him who has fy science nor phi ropy. Whoever undertakes the medical profession with a true spirit, will never rest contented with kn z only a limited partof it. There is no object thinks unworthy of investigation and study. He cannot be satisfied witha smattering knowledge of what he is bound to understand well. He feels resting upon hima double obligation—one, the daty he owes to the public. to whom he announces that he is a quali fied membar ofa noble profession ; the other, the duty he owes tohimeclf. to makeand maintaina reputation for attainments and skill. There are practitioners, indeed there are many, who are ignorant “several dieases, because they fancy itis not respectable to treatthem. Of all such perso it may is serted as beyond dispute, that their ignorance confined to these di I 3 they will be found deficientin all other points. and are not preperly quali fied for the responsibilities they have assumed. WhLoever nasa just appreciatrhmee Of%to n dical art, will not know any differance in the respectability of diseas All maladies are alike St subjects for hiscare and re flection; and the only distinction Which he acknowledges, is that w cyyharises fromtheir greater or less gravity. Circumstance may, indeed, direct his practice in a particular channel, so that his business will be inclined toone class of afflictions, rather than enother ; but thisis not becanse he regards some as beneath or unworthy of his notice. Quackery has profited by the negleet that venereal ve experienced ; and it is notorious that pretenders havesecnred ala share oi such practice, Itistime for the prof mn to free itself from thisreproach. The welfare of societyisas deeply concerned inthis as it can possibly be with any other disease that affiictsthe human family c. H. TOZER, M-D READ AND REFLECT. Dr. C. H Tozer's Card to the Afficted. Quick Cure and Low Prices at the Established Office, Sixth-street between J and K streets. T R. TOZER returns his thanks to his numerous J patients for their patronage, and would embrace this opportanity to remind them that he continues to consulten those difficult cases of VENEREAL which have bated the skill of sowe of the most celebrated physicians of the age, and upon which ke has NEVER FAILED TO PERFORM A RADICAL CURE. DR. TOZER’S reputation as a physician stands wnequalled. His cxelusive aattention to diseases of the Gonto Urinary Organs, for so many years renders him perfect master of Syphilitic diseases. DR. TOZER has, it is well known, taken patients from the very verge ofthe grave Restorrd them to Perfect Health. He further states that he deems it sufficient to attract the attention of those who might need the services of a physicianin ALL CASES, not particularly those enumerated in the advertisement, excepting they would test my merits as a practitioner, and the result of my practica bas been thus far satisfactory te my patientsandmyself. Nor do I deem it necessary to fill columns of newspapers with fulsome, empiric and bombastic advertisements, professing my ability toheal all diseases flesh is heir to, for todo that I’ must be something more than man, but to give those that ase affiieted with Venereal, Chronic and othtr diseases to understand, from long experience, I am fully compotent to trert them successfully. loffer uo genuine or fraudulent certificates or puffs of my superior qualifications, as a practition, neither do I assume the medical honoss to which I am entitled ; but merely ask those who are diseased to read the differeny advertisementsrelating totho cure of private diseases, and judge for themselves where to apply forrelief.
