J OULD most respectfully inform those afflicted with \ / Private Complaints, such as Syphils, Gonorrhoea, Noctyrnai Emilsslous, and all the consepuences of Self Abuse, that he was formerly Practical Physician of Locke Hospital.in the City of London, where there are ai all times under medical treatment, from fifteen hundred to two thousand, and for the last four years of the city of -acramento, Thousands can testify tothe many radical and periect cures effected; and it is well known that he is the only one in the State who has made a thorough and Perfect Cure after all the advertising quacks have failed, A Practical Treatise on VENEREAL. By Dr. C. H. TOZER, Saciamente. There are no maladies to which the human family is liable of Deeper Importance either in a medical o* moral point of view, than those arising from impure sexual intercourse. As medical men, it is our business to look at diseas' merely asii atfeets Life aud Health; and our efforts are ti ;notto the reformation of man’s vici: us pros, but tothe mitigation of his BoDILY SUFFERING. s abstract sense that we write of Venereal Afnd itis inthis sense that the Doctor should to their study. If his feelings are allowed profes al pursr: his qualifications will necessarily be limited to those subjects that are most agreeable to his tastes. To become an enljzhtened Practitioner, it is essential that he should be a liberal and ardent one; and affections, in their nature repulsive to delicate sentibilities, must be regarded in no other 1 light than as morbid phenomenaof the Living Body. The whole business of the Medical art, when we take a low view of it and regard it only as labor, is a disagreeableone. In any form, disease is unpleasant to look upon. The sick chamber affords no pleasant sights.— The physi. ian is made the witness both -f phy and moral infirmity, Struck by disease, the tive part of men’s nature are clouded over ; his pride is humbled: his intellect is disturbed ; his wholn characcer, ina word, istransformed, Too often, alas, is sickn the consequence of his own folly . self-in dulgence, the gratification ofappcetites, the exhausting toil ofavarice, the feveris’ Jabors for humen applause, all produce their baneful etiects upon the Con stitutton. Brttothe medical attendant, the moral aspect ot these facts are not to have any influence upon his skill or his oares. Atthe best, human nature is buf weak. This is the first truth for a medical man to learn: and in whatever way this weak oess is exhibited, the philantlhrophic heart will feel that it isa pleasure, as wellasa duty, to relieve bodily infirmities, whenever and however they appear. This isthe higher and nobler view of medical science. e3 ts, It devotes itself to the nugation of pain, the abatement of disease, the restoration toi is, its ministes musi be the specta reeable. But he is re warded of feeling that altho gh sympathy is often itis through sucha road that the widest scope, and meets with y the lofty satistac personal comfort is suerificed and , yet the richest return for its labors. In this view, all diseases are alike to the faithful . physician. He makes nodistinction between the causes that have developed them. He sees man sutiering, and all his facilities are employed to give him health, Disease he regards asa misfortune, and not as a punishment. Of all the affections that affict man, there is no one more terrible in its consequences than SYPHILIS. Dreadful as itis tothe person who first contracss it, frightful astreqnemily are its ravaes in his constitu tion, en g occasionally, im destruction ; yet is a disease eper interest, and more te be lamented when it ivy trensmitted tooffspring Children often come into the world with the disease hideously to the eye ; coof de ve with blotohes and sores ; with wrinkled faces, having the appearance of old age; and itis ;robable thatevery pucticle ofthe living anism is equally tainted with the poisonWhen such a condition exists, it cannot be doubted that life will too frequently rt and full of pain. JORFULA. CONSUMPTION, and other diseases that are sometimes hereditary, are in many case i fruit; and one way tostay the devastating im fearfully T t e to ERADICAT OM THE D, Would it not seem that a disease so prevalent and so direful, oughi to excite the deepest interest among the me on, both Tespe its true pathology * uM cay he offer far his 1 surgeon, and yet does e when he sees ‘t, and is izgnorantofthe best means of checking it and preventany future evil consequences? 13 it enough for him te say thattothe imagination the disease is a loath ? thatisa disreputable one to e, anda me to treat? Such an excuse may, profy him who has nobetter, but will not satisfy science nor philanthropy. Whoever undertakes the medical profession with a . true spirit, will never rest contented with knowing enly a limited partof it, There is no object that he thinks unworthy of investigation and study. THe can not be sa isfied witha smattering knowledge of what . he is bound to nnderstand well. He feeis resting upon hima double obligation—one, the daty he ow to the public. to whom he announces thathe is aq fied memboar of a noble prefession; the other, the duty he owes tohimaclf. to make and maintain a reputation for attainments and skill. There are some practitioners, indeed there are many, who are ignorant ofsereral dicases, because they fancy itis not respectable to treatthem. Of all such persons it may be assrted as beyond dispute, that their ignorance is not ifined to these diseases alone ; they will be found deentin all other p and are not properly qualified for the responsibilities they have assumed. Whoever has a just appr tion of the medical art, will not know any a a the respectability of diseasest! the sney, who es noteven recognize the ¢ All maladies are : subjects for his care «and re flectio: nd the only distinction which he acknowledges, is that which ari from their gr “ gravity. Circumstance may, indeed, direct his practice in a particular channel, so that his business will be inclined toone class of afflictions, rather than another ; but this is not because he regards some as beneath or unworthy of his notice. Quackery has profited by the negleet that venereal diseases have experienced ; and it is notorious that pretenders havesecnred a large share oi such practice. Itis time for the profession to free itself from thisreproach. The welfare of society is as deeply concerned inthis as it ean possibly be with any other disease that affiictsthe human family. Cc. H. TOZER, MD. READ AND REFLECT. Dr. C. H Tozer’s Card to the Afficted. Quick Cure and Low Prices at the Established Office, Sixth-street between J and K streets. Rh. DR. TOZER’S reputation as a physician stands rnequalled. His exclusive aattention to diseases of the Gonto Urinary Organs, for so many years renders hin perfect master of Syphilitic diseases. DR. TOZER has, it is well known, taken patients f-om the very verge ofthe grace Restorrd them to Perfect Health. He further states that he deems it sufficient to attract the attention of those who might need the services of a physicianin aLL CASES, not particularly those enumerated in the advertisement, excepting they would test my merits as a practitioner, and the result of my practica has been thus far satisfactory to my patientsand myself. Nor do I deem it necessary to fill columns of newspapers with fulsome, empiric and bombastic advertisements, professing my ability to heal all diseases flesh is heir to, for todo that I must be something more than man, but to give those that ase affiicted with Venereal, Chronic and other diseases to understand, from long expevieuce, [am fully compotent to treet then successfully. I IGHLY IMPORTANT to the SICK !—Is it not Awful to Note the Haggard, Sallow, Cadaverous Faces and Wasted Skeleton Forms we meet—Thisis not confined to the old, but we see the young, ablebodied and those in the prime of life, complain after being here somatime of illness ; some grow unnaturally fat suddenly ; others waste and grow thin; they cannot localize or describe their disease, yet they feel universally unwell, mentally and physically ; some have pains and weakness inthe breast, limbs or body; they feel a want of muscular and mental energy, a want of animation, and have fearful forebedings for the future, poor appetite, Nervous irritability and sleeplessness ; their ekin is dry, and occasionally flushed and heated, thin, pallid and yellow. Now Sudden Deaths, Lunacy and Universal Debility is too. too prevalent here ; and who wonders when combined with the climate like this, a dry air impregnated with elictricity and galvani-m ? We have many who have passed through sickness, whose life is IN TEMPERATE and DEBAUCHED, or have seen others who have been nearly Doctored to Death by quack medicines, or by the advice of “* The Faculty,?? who have impregnated them with mercury, calomel, &c. For all such cases is Dr. Jacob Webber’s Invigeratingeordi#] Sanguifier most especially adapted, inas much as the above cases and symptoms did Dr. Web her minutely stuuy in adapting his Cordial totheir cure. It is a preventative and absolute remedy for these. It removes all longing or taste for liquor. Many inebriates have found that after it has renewed and strenghtened them, quieted their nerves, it has caused aversion to spirits I have seen it cure some ofthe most frightful cases where delirium tremens have actually eceurred. . . .
