Quartz Mining Laws of Nevada County,
Passed Dec. 20, 1852
Article 1st, The jurisdiction of the
following laws shall extend over all
quartz mining property within the county of Nevada.
Article 2d. Each proprietor of a quartz
claim, shall hereafter be eutitled to one
hundred feet on a quariz ledge or vein,
and the discoverer shall be ailowed one
hundred feet additional, Each claim
shall include all the dips, angles and variaticus of the vein.
Article 3d. On the discovery of a
vein of quartz. three days shall be allowed to mark, and stake offthe same, in
such a mannex, by the name of the
ownerand the number of the claim, o1
otherwise, as shall property and fully
identify such claims. Parties having
claims may cause a map or plan to be
made, and acopy filed with the Recorder, if deemed requisite to more particularly fix the locality.
Article 4thWork to the extent of
one hundred dollars in value, or twenty
days faithful labor, shall be performed
by each company ho‘ding claims, within
thirty days days from the date of secording the same, as provided for in Article
6th of these laws; and the duly authorized representative of a company making oath that such money has been exended, orthat such labor has been perSoca shall be entitled toa certificate
from a County Recorder or deputy guarranteeing undisputed possession of said
claim for the term of one year: and fora
like sum of money or amount of labor expended or performed within the first
twenty days of each succeeding year
duly acknowledged as herein named,

from year to year to further certificates .
of undisputed proprietorship and possession, and a company haying a mill contracted for, in good faith, to the amount
of five thousand dollars tor the working
of its claim or claims, the proper representative of the company making oath
of the same, shall be entitled to receive

claimants or company, their successors
and assigns, undisputed possession and
proprietorship fourecer under these laws,
provided nothing in this Arti le, shall be
at anytime inconsistent withthe laws of
the United States.
Artscle Sth. Whenever the requisite amount of money or Jabor, as provided for in Article 4th hasnot been expend. .

of these laws, the claim or elaims thus
neglected, shal! be considered chandoned and subjected to be re-located by any
other party or parties. ;
Article 6th. Any person a citizen of
the U.S., or eny person having taken }
the necessary steps to become a citizen
ofthe U. S. shall be entitled to hold
one quartz claim as provided for in Article Ist, aud as many more as may be
purchased in good faith for a valuable
consideration, for which certificates of
proprietorship shall be issued by the
County Recorder. 4
Article 7th ‘The regularly elected
County Recorderot Nevada county, shall
serve as Recorder for this county in
uartz claims authenticating his acts by

deputy, such person fiom Grass Valley
as may be elected by the district; of}

Article Sth. The fees of the Recorderand deputy, shall be the same as the
statute fees for recording per folio.
Article 9th. No title to a claim hereafter taken up. or purchased, shall be
valid, unless recorded in the books of
the aforesaid County Recorder or deputy, within ten days ofits location or pur.

light red, horas turning back—about ten years old,
with white face, wearing a bell without a clapper.
The other is a dark brindle, with brockle face with
some white on her back, and one fore teat is shorter
than the other: They are believed to have gone .

One was bought from a butcher one and a half miles .
from Johnson’s ranch, 16 miles from Marysville on .
