Pike County Market.—Z. P. Roussin has established himself in the substantial and fancy market line on Commercial street. He designs making his place
the spot to buy edibles. See his advertisement.
The triangular Quarrel—The last
mail brings the desirable information
that the row betwecn Douglas, Fitch and
Jeff. Davis had been left to friends to
settle. Either of these gentlemen are
willing to bleed but, lika Sniktaw, they
dont want to bleed more than a quart

WS A good cigar is a great luxury,
and those of our friends who wish to indulge in one, should call on M. Greenhood, on Broad street, who keeps a large
stock of tobacco, cigars, pipes, etc.
A Lone Session. — We learn from
one who knows, that the prospects of a
long session of the Legislature are
perfectly splendid. The measures thus
far passed upon are of little importance
to the State at large, and the idea is entertained that the last of the session
will be no more favorable in this regard
than the first.

River Scenery.—The San Francisco Times says:
The late rains have started vegetation everywhere, and coming down the
Sacramento is now regarded as a pretty

The distant Sierra Nevada monntains
on one side and the Coast range on the
other, tipped with snow and their bases
donned in beautiful green, render the
landscape exceedingly attractive. The
rolling hills of Solano, with their uniform
crop of wild oats, now in the fullness of
their glory, adds to the rest, and to the
steamboat traveler these things form a
pleasing sight.

We copy the following interesting
item concerning the Odd Fellows from
the Union Democrat of Sonora,

during the eight years just passed, expended in charity in different ways, in
the several States of this Union, the sum
of $5,600,000, and assisted 235,074 ofits

its widows and crphans “who received
their special care. 1t numbers at present 175,000 members, and the sum of
$20,000 is required annually by the

a large committee was raised to carry

following as worthy of particular mention:
An incident that occurred in Jackson,

Mr. —— and his wife were sitting quite

quite affectionately. The wife pushed

= The habit of going constantly
armed with a knife or pistol, or both,
has been a most prolific cause of crime.
The greatest coward is likely to commit under such circumstances the most
unprovoked mrrder. Fear makes him
anxious to anticipate his opponent, and
the more likely to commit an outrage,
and hence the most inoffensive man
simply guarding his own rights or pursuing his own reasonable and lawful
amusements, is liable to be shot down
by such a cowardly dog.
A Russian View oF THE AcautsiTIioN oF CuBa.—The Russian organ,
published at Brussels, in speaking of the
President’s hankering after Caba, says :
The war which might result from it
would be far more disastrous than the
Crimean war, which has cost so mueh
goldand bloodto the world. It would
bea war with a nationwhose products
are the first element of industry in all
parts of the world, and whose commcercial intercourse makes an important
branch of income for most Governments.
It would be a violent rupture of all the
arteries of commercial circulation ; it
would be a fatal separation between Europe, which needs America, and America which can dispense with Europe.—
Take from Engiand the gold of California, ana the cotton of Louisiana, and
her industry will at once be stopped in
its prosperous action. We sincerely
hope that such a terrible occurrence will
not take place.

CLUB HOUSE GIN
TO THE PUBLIC.
ZeB~ This celebrated Gin—pretending to nothing
but what it is, viz > a pure and unadulterated artiticle, and assuming no artificial merits of what it is
not, as some of its rival imitators do—after five
years of public approvs! and very extensive sales
in California, has been pronounced by the public to
be superior, not only as a beverage of general use,
to any other article competing against it, but is
Unrivalled in its Medical Efficiency
in most cases of complaints. To persons travelling
in these days ofrapid transit from East to West,
North to South, who are constantly changing their
water as well their climate; who are drinking, indeed, 2 dozen kinds of water in every twenty-four
homss, and each draught containing some pruperty
acting inchemicat antagouism to the preceding one
thereby causing an unnatural degree of excitement
to the stomach—it is positively and absolutely necessary to usc a counteracting agent. From the fact
that the
“London Club House Gin,”
is prepared expressly to meet such exigencies, and
to act as we know it will act, as an antidote we confidently prescribe it as the very best article in the
country. ‘Fhe name of “Aromatic Scheidam
Schnapps” has never been attached in any way to
this article. In first presenting the
“London Club House Gin,”
to the public, my aim was te give them a pure and
unadulterated article of Gin, and te eall it by its
right name. The successattending its introduetion
and extensive sale in California is a sufficient guarantee of the high appreciation of the article by eonsumers.
Variouz parties have from time to time put up
and shipped to California an article which they call
“Crus House Gix.” My Gin, which has gained
such a reputation in California, is branded on the
cases,
“Old London Club House Gin, W. H. D”’
The bottles aleo have a white labe! with a fac similie
ofmy signature. I caution all partiesto beware of
imitations.
