been paid to the owners in dividends. This mine is still producing, and shows
promise of continuing to do so for many years to come. The Maryland Mining
Company is now operating the same and keep a 4o-stamp mill at work.
The Empire Mine, situated about two miles southeast of Grass Valley, enjoys
the distinction of having been worked more continuously than any other
mine in the State, having been in operation with but short interruption from its
discovery in 1850 to the present time. It is now being worked at a depth of 2,400
feet on the incline, keeping a 4o-stamp mill in operation, and has produced over
$7,000,000.
The North Star Mine, situated about two miles southeast of Grass Valley, is
being worked at a depth of 2,400 feet on the incline, keeps a 4o-stamp mill in
operation, and has produced over $6,000,000.
The Allison Ranch Mine, which was recently re-opened by Messrs. Flood
and Mackey, has only been worked toa depth of 500 feet on the incline, but has
produced $2,400,000.
The W. Y. O. D. has twenty stamps in operation, is being worked toa depth
of 1,500 feet, and has produced over $1,000,000.
The Omaha has in operation 30 stamps, and has produced nearly $3,000,000,
and is being worked to a depth of 1,600 feet.
The Massachusetts Hill, reopened in the last few years, is proving one of the
