Schmidt, who in building a fence around a vineyard, found rich ores in a posthole. The California and Gold Tunnel mine is only being worked near the surface at the present time, but has produced over $2,000,000, The Sneath and Clay, now being reopened by the Phoenix Mining Company, was worked to a depth of 500 feet and produced $1,000,000. The Mayflower has a 20-stamp mill, and has produced about $1,000,000, Numerous other mines could be mentioned which have produced large amounts of bullion, and which are being worked now to a profit, or could be made to yield, viz: Spanish, Pittsburg, Banner, Chapman-Reward, Summit, Orleans, Gracie, Glencoe, Unity, Canada Hill, Murchie, Belle Fontaine, Federal Loan, Texas Home, Cadmus, Le Compton, La Suerte, Stanford, and many others. There are at present in operation in Nevada City District 330 stamps. In addition to quartz minivg, Nevada City District has produced large amounts of gold from its gravel mines from the channel to the north of Nevada City, upwards of $3,000,000 having been produced from the Odin and Manzanita claims. ‘This channel is now being profitably worked by the drift process in the Delaware and Harmony mines, and active work is in process to open the same channel in the Poorman and Hastings and Reddik. 14 -
