* % « Great excitement has been created in . entucky and Indiana by the rescue of e Bell family charged with conducting Nwidérground railroad. Although we ve the main facts last week, we will tefly recite them with the additional news: Early !n October a man named Bell and his son were arrested and lodged in the Brandenburg jail, Meade county Ky. charged with runuing off negroes. — Soon after, their arrset, Horace Bell, son of the man inearcerated, broke open the Jail and released his father aud brother, who immediately put for parts unknewn. October 20te, a party of police went atross the river from Louisville, Hentucky, to New Albany. Iudiana, and fortibly arrested Horace Bell and took him to Louisville in a steam ferryboat, called the Adelaide. At the time of arrest. a great majority of the people of New Albany were . attending the fair. When the news was circulated, it created the most intense excitement. The bells were rung, vast crowds were collected, and all proceeded to the §wharf. There a process was served on Henry Tennyson, pilof and Dan Taylor, fireman. of the ferry. boat Adelaide. They were arrested as accessories to the kidnapping of Bell, and Leld to bail in $500 each, to appear before the Mayor of New Albany. During the night the excitement in New Albany incresed. One of the te try beats was seized and steam raised, . a party proposing to go to rescue Bell. . Couriers on swift horses were dispatched to arouse Bell's neighbors and parties . placed on the reads to intercept the party carrying Bell to prison At last accounts the arsenal at New . Albany had been seized and it had been . anuonneed asthe determination of the . people to go to Louisville and rescue . Beli at any cost. The next mai) will} bring us the finale of the matter. i Diuinquent List.—The delinquent List of the county of this vear is double . A} part of its unnosual length is owing, we the size of any of its predecessors. learn to a number of mortgages and oth. oD er securities already cancelled having . by some means been entered on the assessment roll against the names of partits. Delinquents are rapidly coming . in and paying their taxes to the Sheriff, who is,collecting revenue at a great rate. It is supposed that but a small amount of property will be exposed for sale for taxes when the day of sale arrives. Lyceum Minstrre.s.—This popular . troupe of Ethiopian delineators appear: . ed at che Metropolitan Theatre last . night toa good house. The perform. ance was highly entertaining if we are . to judge from the applause which nearly deafened us across the street. The . . . company will appear again to-night . Backus isone of the crack pe:formers in his line, with a change of programme, Johnson, the inimitable comie vocalist . isa great addition to the troupe, which . in truth has no sticks in it. hose whe leve negro minstre'sy—and who dont ? . —can enjoy themselves to-night hugely . is . ae by witnessing the performance at the} Metropolitan. Poypulation of San Francisco.—Vhe San Francisco Herald says that the population of the city cannot be less than seventy-five or eighty thousand. Murderer couvicted at Oroville,—Keenan, who killed Burr, in August last in . Butte county, has been convicted of} murder in the first degree at Oroville. . O. Larkin.—The will of the} late Thos. O Larkin, shows that Lhe was possessed of property at the time of his . decease, toan amount valued between . $300,000 and $600,0000. . ANnrEstED.— ‘T'wo soos of Brighatm Young have been arrested by the police of Salt Lake. One of them had drawn ¢ pistol threatning to shoot Mr. Gilbert a . merchant of that place, and the other . was aiding and abetting his brother.— . They were both placed in the calaboose. Decutnes.— Late news from Salt Lake, states that the Mormons tendered Hon. D. C. Broderick a public eh . ner which he declined. It is not high crimes, such as robbery and murder, which destroy the peace of . society. The village gossip, jealousies, family quarre!s and bickerings between neighbors, meddlesomeness, and tattling . are the worms that eat into all social happiness.— Ex. _ At Camptonville several miners are running old tailings through their sluices . and are making $40 to $50 day That is more than they can make out of new earth. A Boston editor calls the young ladies in his city, beautiful waves on ihe sea of existence. We suppose they spend all their time in dancing. Ixpian FanpanGo. —A gathering of . the Indians from the various tribes of the Tuolumne, Stanislaus, and Calaveras, took place near Columbia a short time ago. Among the exercises upon such occasions, is that of an oration from some one chosen from the assemblage, who relates the history of his ancestors, their achievements in battle and the legends which followed in the path of tradition. ‘The ceremony of washing, or removing of mourning also takes place. The mourning dress consists of tar and pitch, the ashes of their hair and a peculiar kind of blacking known only to themselves. The term of mourning seldom lasis over three months, and closed on oceasions before stated. All who are in mourning are collected in a line ; willow bowls fuil of water are then placed in front of them and officials are appointed to perform the duties of washing. The mourners are then stripped naked, the cleansing is effected, when they are again conducted to the camp, and are prepared to join in the amusemeuts and sports of the fandango. Itis seldom that we are called upon to bear testimony im fayorcf the skill of any physician, but a sense of duty as well as justice demands that we shou!d not pass Dr. Czapkay by, without something more than a mere mention. Unlike the greater portion of those who thrust themselvesand their no trums before the public, whose practiees are empirical Dr. Czapkay is agentleman of rare medical and scientific at‘ainments, having held the position of chief surgeon of the liberating army during t!e late Hunvarian Revolution, and is possessed of all the requisite experience and skill for the successful practice of his } profession, Itis to the eare and adviee of such a physician we would commendall suffering from the effects of sexualor private disease, felling assured that in all such complaints, whether arising from infection, indiscretion, self-abuse, or loss of virility, he can guarantee, from his extensive practice, a speedy and permanent cure. To those suffering from the effects of physical and mental debility, we would say, let common sense take the place of false modesty, and seek such adviec as willsave you from an untimely grave, and lead you back ‘gain to pristine health, consult Dr, Czapkay, whom w* cheerfully endorse as a skillful and tried physican, capable of copiug with and successfully eradicating those self-inflicted miseries, the evilsof empirical practices and all diseases of a seminal nature. In ali cases of a Dropsical tendency, it is generally the only reme@y required when adopted in the early stage of the d e. In dyspepsia maladies, when taken im proper quantities, as a diet drink, and especially at dinner, it is found by uniform experience, to be eminently efficacious in the most cbstinate cases, when even the best of the usual remedies have faiied to afford more than temporary relief. In cases of Flatviency, it is an immediate and invariable specitic, and it may be administered in diluted and proportlonate quantities.even to Young Infants, in all those paroxyisms of griping paiuin the stomach and bowels to which they are especially subject, as well as the cholie of grown persons. Its judicious adoption in connection with the principal .
