pM Rae For the Nevada Journal. San Francisco Advertisement. San Francisco Advertisements. . I ook at the Red Flag rt TO HARRY. Ub, say! sweet Harry, should I forget— Forget that night when first we met : That night in June—the grass was green, A seeming semblance ef your mien. Whilst sitting on the stile, Harry, You were so green, you wished to marry. (have forgot your “cake is dough.” i bave been true, as you well know ; f{ promised nought, you wooed in vain, Your anger baked your doughy brain, And thus your sappy brain relieved, And now you think you are deceived. Should I forget, oh! Harry dear, You need not die ; you need not fear, You'd rather live, and be of use, To milk the cows for me forsooth ; And watch with care, your manly mien, For cows are fond of all things green. When have I vowed, or thee deceived? I've promised nought, or thee believed ; You now are Near—as near to me, As I could ask. or wish to be. Years have past, oh time is fleet, God grant it ter, before we meet. a Who told you so ? you roving elf, Your sappy brain bethought itself ; That time soon cuts life’s thread in twain And fire at iast your silly brain ; But if you will, out with your knife, And quickly cut the thread of life. Kind Harry dear, your time had come, And you are safely now at home ; That letter wrote, it was in haste, I feared to throw my time to waste ; And then the ink and paper too, Such lavish’d folly ne'er will do. I'd give my heart to none like thee, Whose servile soul would worship me, Nor vowing oaths, a booted wealth, But one who loves me as himself; Who walks 1 virtues path of life, With him I'd proudly live—his wire. Now one like this I hope to find, I then shall change my willing mind; Tl woo and wed and be a wife, And love him dear With onelike th's *Till then, dear S y all my life; n would marry ; Tam Miss fe A strictly orthodox old gentleman . in Massachusetts, on his return from church one Sunday, was extolling to his son Frank the merits of the sermon. “I have heard, my son,” said he, “one of . the most truthful sermons ever delivered before a Christian society. It carried me to the gates of heaven.” “Well, father,” replied Frank, “you'd better have dodged in, then, for you'll never have another such a chance!” CLaRa. AGE.—But very few men die of age. Almost all die of disappointment, passional, mental, or bodily toil, or accident. The passions kill men sometimes, even suddenly. The common expression, choaked with passion, has little exaggeration in it; for eventhough not suddenly fatal, strong passions shorten life. Strong bodied men often die young— weak men live longer than the strong, for the strong uze their strength, and the weak have none to use. The latter take eare of themselves; the former do not. WaAkING Up SINNERS.— We have heard of an old minister in Ohio, who purchased a whistle, and when his hearers went to sleep, as usual, he emitted from it a very shrillsound. All were awake and stood up to hear him launeh forth thus: “Well you are a set of smart specimens of humanity, ain’t ye?” as he slowly gazed at his wondering people ; “when I preach the gospel you go to sleep; when I play the fool, you are awake, and look like a rush of hornets with a pole in their nest.” Sr it is recorded on good authority, that a Frenchman learning English, and anxious to say something very striking, in parting from the lady of his heart, carefully consulted his dictionary, and there finding that “to pickle” meant “to preserve,” bid her farewell with the emphatic exclamation, “may Heayen pickle you!” ty The new Theatre in Placerville will be completed by the 10th of Ocet., next, and will comfortably seat fourteen hundred persons. te A material diminution of pauperism is going on in Ireland. = een = ioe = ———— —CITY DRUG STORE, . I continned under his for three months without receiving any ben grew worse from week to week, until atlast £ got discouraged and asked him for his opinion. I told him not to fear to tell me the whole truth, for I should rather know the worst at once, than to live in suspense. I had lost about thirty pounds of flesh, and that he at least could not cure me and as I was then going on, death must soon count me as one of its victims. This physician then toid me that my case was incurabie ; that 1 had better not take any “more inedicines. He said I was ina decline which was fast tending to pulmonary consumption. I then despaired of obtaining any reliet, and saw that vnless something was done to mitigate the complaint that I should be numbered withthe dead, or what is worse, . be araving maniac.
