singular fact that when bread is plenty
weddings are, and when the crops are
poor weddings are few. There is nothing more definitely settled by the
O Miners, Travellers, Etc. There is no malady of
deeper importance, either in a medical or moral point
of view, to which the human family 1s more liable than
that arising from impure connections.
As a medical man it is the duty of every physician to
look at diseases as it affects health and life, and his sole
object should be to mitigate, as far as lies in his power,
the bodily suffering. Human nature at best is but frail,
all ate liable te misfortune.
Of all the ills that affect man none are more terrible
than those of «private nature. Dreadful as itis in the
person who contracts it, frightful as are its ravages upon
his constitution, ending frequently in destruction and a
registers than this. The statistics of
Great Britain show that from the cessaloathsome grave,
it becomes of still greater importance
tion of the famine in 1847 up to 1854, when it is transmitted to innocent offspring. Such being
case hew necessary it becomes that every one having
the number of marriages was continually the
the least reason to fear that they have contracted the dis
iim
on the increase; and that in the latter
year, for the first time in seven years,
they began to decline. One might suppose that the Eastern war, which broke
out in 1854, was the cause of this falling

off. But decrease in the number of
marriages commenced in the first quarter of the year, befure war was
pro
elaimed, and months before the waste of
life, caused by hostilities, could effect
the result. The real cause must be
found in the fact that in November,
1853, the price of wheat rose toseventytwo shillings and five pence per quarter,
nearly double what it had been in 1852,
and considerably more than it had been
since 1847.
This enormous rise was
attended by a great injury to the foreign
trade of England, especially with this
ease, should attend to it once by consulting some _physician, whose respectability and education enables him to
warrant a safe, speedy and permanent cure. In accordance with this necessity, Dr. Young feels called upon to
state that, by long study and extensive practice, he has
become perfect master of all these diseases which come
under the denomination of venereal, and having paid
more attention to that one branch than any other physician in the United States, he feels himself better qualitied

The Doctor effects a cure in recent cases in a few days
and finds no difficulty in enring those of long.duration,
without submitting the patient to such treatment as will
draw upon him the slighest suspicion, or oblige him to
neglect his business, whether within doors or without.—
The diet need not be changed, except in cases of severe

Was troubled with a complication of diseases brought on
by that soul-destroying habit of self-pollution, and complaints caught by connection with bad persons, of the opposite sex. I have been treated by some of the best physicians as well as those quacks who infest the State, and
by them all given up as ineurable ; but being advised by
a friend who had been benefitted by your scientific treatment, to call upon you. I did so, and feel grateful to him
for the information, but still more thankful to you for the

PLACERVILLE, May 28th, 1855.
R. J. C. YounG—Dear Sir; Words cannot express
the gratitude I feel is due to you for the benefit I
have received? rom your truly invaluable course of treatment of my case while prescribing for me. I think I cannot justify myself without giving this small token of my
thankfulness and esteem, for you have been the means
of saving my life, and restoring to me that health which
Ihadso long despaired of again enjoying. [had for a
long time (four5
) been troubled with that most dreadful scourge of young people, seminal weakness or noctural emissions which so weakened me both body and mind,
that I was obliged to give up mining altogether.
I con
sulted one of the best physicians (so called,) in the mountain districts, and after a careful examination of my case
he gave me medicines. I continued under his treatment
for three months without receiving any benefit, in fact I
grew worse from week to week, until at last I got diseouraged and asked him for his opinion. I told him not
to fear to tell me the whole truth, forI should rather know
the worst at once, than to live in suspense. I had lost
about thirty pounds of flesh, and that he at least could
not cure me and as I was then going on, death must soon
count me as one of its victims. This physician then told
me that my case was incurable; thatI had better not
take any more medicines. He said Iwas ina decline
which was fast teading to pulmonary consumption.
I then despaired of obtaining any relief, and saw that
vnless something was done to mitigate the complaint that
I should be numbered withthe dead, or what is worse,
be a raving maniac.
Happening to see one of your books
the Pocket Aésculapis, I mady up my mind at once to call
and consult you with jhe determination of trying once
more to get relief if you would undertake the case. Oh
how thankful I am for that determination I commenced
taking the medicine prescribed by you, andI am now,
through their healing powers, restored to perfect Health.
shall not fail to recommend you to any of my friends that
require assistance, for
aman that can cure a case as bad
as mine was, can cure every disease that flesh is heir to,
if there is life enough left in the system to build upon.
Receive my most sincere and heartfelt thauks and es

not had one single fit since I
commenced taking your medicines; Iam also gaining
strength every day. The trouble that I had, which was
the cause of the fits is alsoleaving me very fast. In fact,
I think I am entirely well, but if you think best, I will
take medicines a short time longer. It is only about two
months since I commenced taking your prescriptions, and
although you told me it would take from three to four
months, yet I feel perfectly well already. I feel sorry that
I did not visit yon at first, and not allow myself to be led
aceay by the vain bousting of those quacks that copy your
style of husiness, and thereby impose upon the public.—
They despoiled me of my money, and if I had not stopp
ed taking their vile stuff, they would have robbed me of
my life also, Thanks to your superior medical skill I am
beyond danger, and I shall always consider you the savieur of my life.
Dear Dr.—Publish this if you consider it worth your
while, for I wish to proclaim to the world your worth,
that every one who needs a physician may know where
to call, and be sure of avoiding deceit and imposition.
Yours, till death,

Syphilis and Gonorrhea.—Dr. D. J. Czapkay’s extraordinary success in the treatment of Syphilitic and Gonorrheal diseases in the primary and other stages, induces
him to call public attention to the fact that of the great
numbers who have made daily application to him, there
is not one who has not been effectually and permanently
cured. In recent cases of Syphilis or Gonorrhea, the
Dr. guarantees a perfect cure in a few days without hin
drance to business, or other inconvenience, The Dr.’s
method of treatment of these maladies, combines the improvements made by the medical faculty, with discoveries of his own that are unknown to any one else, and
which, when applied, prevent the possibility of evil after
consoquences.
Secondary Syphilis, which is so destructive of health
producing ulcerations of the throat, destroying the soft
parts, and leaving the bones exposed, which mortify,
separate, and come away, distiguring the sufferer most
horribly, as well as impairing his general health, and pre
disposing to consumption, the Dr. treats in the most certain and efficient manner. Also Buboes, painful swell-ings upon the bones, disfiguring splotches on the skin,
sores, pimples and all other consequences of Syphilitic
or Gonorrheeal diseases he guarantees to cure, or asks
no compensation.
The Dr. would especially call the attention of those
who have failed to obtain relief from others, many of
whom he has already cured, and many are still under
treatment. The Dr. makes no charge for consultation,
and invites all to call at his Institute, and he will give
them such satisfaction they can obtain nowhere else.—
Those at a distance, by writing to the Dr. can have their
cases promptly attended to.

of humanity, also. About two years ago, I suddenly and
from causes unknown to me, was seized with a fit of Epilepsy, which owing to my inabilit to meet the expenses

discouragement which I met with on attempting it, soon
bebome such (as I was then led to believe,) as to defy the

despised the miseries of my life, and soon learned to look
npon these who would render me assistance or shelter me
from dauger as enemies who sought to prolong the misery
of my existence. While in this State, and haviug previous
to my afflictions tasted the sweets of life, I once
more was induced to attempt seeking aid of a physician,
and, by recommendation, called on Dr. L. J. cuapkay. I
told him my circumstances, and my inability to reward
him for his services—regardless of which, however, he at
