NEVADA DEMOCRAT. ~ Borxt To. DeaTa.—Miss Amelia White, whe has been living in a bouse on Pine street, a few doors aboye Commercial, was so badly burned last Saturday evening that she died on Sunday night.. It seems.that soon after dark she undertook to fill a lamp with fluid, using another light at the time. By some means she upset the lamp-filler in such mauner as to set the flaid on fire and scatter it over her clothes. She was immediately enveloped in a eheet of flame, and ran into the street and implored assistance. She was caught by two or three men who happened to be passing near, who threw her down and commenced rolling her over on the ground, in order to put out the fire. bat it was not until her clothing was almost entirely consumed that the fire was extinguished. She was frighifully burned all over the body, and lingered in great agony until Sunday night, when she expired. Primary Convention.—The election of delegates to the Democratic Convention to nominate candidates for city officers was held on Saturday. The prineipal contest was for City Marsha!—Henry Knerr and E. O. Tompkins, the present Marshal, being the candidates. The whole number of votes cast was 318, which is about three-fifths of the legal voters of the city. The Tompkins ticket was elected by a majority of two to one. The following are the names of the delegates elected : T. T. Davenport A.S. Olin, Chas. Kent, W. Hengh, Jas. Funston, M. Sullivan, Geo. S, Pierce, M. Logue, H. H. Flagg, W. Dreifuse, Wm. Barton, Wm. C. Furt. The delegates will meet in Convention to-day, to make nominations. Raitroap Enterrrise.—A company has been formed, styled the Montesana and Deer Creek Railroad Co., which bas for its object the running of a railroad track. one mile in length, to bring quartz to the Oriental and other mills on Deer creek. The road commences at the Oriental mill, and will terminate at a point above the Jacobs’ Lead, Within the distance are located many rich quartz ledges, among which may be mentioned the Lecompton, Beach’s, Buchanan, and Jacobs’, The track isto be laid so as to run the quartz down to the mills in the vicinity of the terminus, without any propeling power, That this is not a visionary enterprise, it is merely necesrary to state that the survey and estimates have all been made, and the work is commenced. Suraican.—Dr. R. M. Hunt performed a very severe surgical operation upon a patient named John Brackm, at the county hospital, on Fri day last. The paticnt was suffering from a disease in the leg, one of the bones of which had become enlarged to more than twice the ordinary size. The bone was laid bare, and the diseased part, which consisted of nearly all the bone from the ankle half way to the knee was removed. The pieces of bone chipped off were avfficient to fill a pint measure, The patient is now doing as well as could be expected, but it is still a matter of doubt whether or not the leg will have to be amputated. * Turatricat.—From the card of Mr. Pierce in another column, it will be seen that he has made arrangements to open the Metropolitan Theater on the 27th inst. with one of the best companies that have ever performed in the State. Mr, Anderson is a talented and accomplithed tragedian, and his personations at San Francisco and Sacramento have met with great favor from the press and the public generally. Mr. Pierce has secured the services of this company at a heavy expense, and we trust that the people of Nevada and vicinity will appreciate his enterprise. To Hovsekeerrrs.—Mr. A. G, Pier is now in receipt of the the largest and best selected stock of Crockery, Glase-ware, Lamps, &c., ever brought to this market.
