O, the 5 t Has a smile a And she sits on a sapphire throne; Whilst the sweet winds load her With garlands of odor From the bud to the rose o’erblown ! But the Autumn Night Has a piercing sight, And a step both strong and free; And a voice for wonder, Like the roar of thunder When he shouts to the stormy sen ! And the Winter Night nies at = = and heed ‘ ne a song of pain; Till the wita bee hummeth, And warm Spring cometh, When she dies in a dream of rain . O, the Night! the Night! ; Tis a lovely sight Whatever the clime or time; For sorrow then soareth, And the lover outpoureth His soul in a star-bright rhyme. It bringeth sleep To the forests deep, The forest bird to its nest; To care bright hours, And dreams to flowers, And that balm to the weary—Rest. For Health’s Sake. Never put a pio in the moutb or between the teeth, for a single instant, becanse a sudden effort to laugh or speak may convey it into the throat or luogs, or stomach, causing death in a few miuates, or requiring the windpipe to be cut open to get it out; if it has passed into the stomach, it may, as it has done, cause years of suffering, ceasing only when it bas made its way out of the y through the walls of the abdomen or other portion of the system. It is better to have no button or string about avy garment worn during the night. A long, loose night-gown is the best thing to sleep in, Many a man bas facilitated an attack of apoplexy by buttoning bis ehirtcollar, If you wake up @ acold night, and find yourself very restless, get out of bed, and standing on a plece of carpet or cloth of uoy kind, spend five or ten minutes in rabbing the whole body vigorously and rapidly with the hands, baving previously thrown the bed clothing towards the foot of the bed go as to air both bed and body. If you find that yoo have inadvertantly eaten too much, instead of taking something to sett e the stomach, thas adding to the load under which italready labors, take « continuous walk with just enough activity 1o keep upa very slight moisture or perspiration on the skin, and do not stop until entirely relieved, but end your exercise in & warm room, so as to cool off very slowly. Never put on a pair of new bvois or shoes op a journey, rather wear your easiest, oldest pair, otherwise you will soon be paiafully disabled, A loosely-fitting boot or shoe, white traveliog in winter, will keep the feet warmer without any stockings at ali, than a tight pair, over the thickest, warmest bose, Riding against a cold wind, immediately pio singing or speaking in public, is saicide, Many public speakers have been disabled for life by speaking under a hoarseness of voice, If yon happen to get wet in cold weather keep moving on foot with a rapidity suflicient to keep off a feeling of chilliness until you get into a house, and not waiting to undress, drink instantly and pleutifully of hot tea of some sort; then undress, wipe dry quickly, and put on warm, dry clothing. Never go to bed with cold teet, if you want to sleep well. If a person faints, place him instantly fat on a bed, or floor, or earth, on bis back, and quiet!y let him alone at least ten minutes; if it is simply a fainting fit, the blod, flowing on a level will more speedily equalize itself throughout the system; cold water dashed in the face, or a sitting position are wensoemels and pernicious,—{ Hall’s Journal of Health A New Iroy-onap Sreamer.—The ironclad war-steamer, built at Mystic, Connecticut, was recently launched, and now lies at Greenpoint, L, L., where she will receive her armament and be prepared for sea. YOUNG, Late Professor of the University of Pennsylvania, CAN BE FOUND AT HIS Private Medical Office and Hospital, NO, 751 CLAY STREET; Or posite the southwest corner of the Plaza, SAN FRANCISCO, Wakz HE CAN BE CONSULTED privately, and with the utmost confidence by the afflicted, at all hours daily, from 94. M. to3P, m. DR. YOUNG addresses those who are suffering under the affliction of private disease, whether arising from impure connection or the terrible vice of selfabuse. Devoting his entire time to that particular branch of the medicai profession, he feels warranted in GUARANTEEING A CURE IN ALL CASES, whether of long standing or recently contracted, entirely removing the dregs of disease from the system, and making a perfect and PERMANENT CURE, He ped eye the attention of the afflicted to the fact of his long standing and well earned reputation, furnishing sufficient assurance of his skill and suca , Upwards of five thousand cases have been discharged cured in the year ending July Ist, 1860, showing a record surpassing any hospital in the United States. ConsuLTaTION, by letter or otherwise, Free. Caution to the Public. Every intelligent and thinking person must know that remedies handed out for general use should have their efficacy established by well tested experience in the hands of a regularly educated physician, whose preparatory study fits bim for all the duties he naust fulfill; yet the country is flooded with poor nostruins and cure-alls, purporting to be the best in the world, which are not only useless, but always injurious, The unfortunate should be PAR TICULAR in selecting his physician, as it is a lamentable yet incontrovertible fact that many syphilitic atients are made miserable with ruined constitutions fy mal-treatment from inexperienced physicians in general practice; for it is a point generally conceded by the best rages sn a that the study and management of these complaints should engross the whole time of those who would be competent and successful in their treatment and cure, The inexperienced general practitioner, having neither opportunity nor time to make himself sufficiently acquainted with their pathology, comonly pursues one system of treatment, in most cases making an indiscriminate use of that antiquated and dangerous weapon, mercury. More caution, however, should be used by thesyphilitic patient, in cousulting nominal physicians of the advertising ¢lass, as nine-tenths of them are imposters, who assume German, French, or other names, and are without any claims to medical knowledge. These knavish rascals infest all large cities, and, by means of their lying advertisements and posters, they induce the unwary to enter their Peter Funk ‘institutions,’ and unmercifully fleece them and poison them with mereury, Persons living at a distance in the country are more apt to be duped by the lying notices of quacks than citizens, In view of the above facts, Dr. J.C, YOUNG would say that he is the only regularly educated physician in Catifornia now advertising. who devotes his whole time to the treatment of venereal diseases, Office, 761 Clay street. opposite the Plaza. Hours from 9 a, M., to 8 P. M. panera HAVE CONFIDENCE. DR. YOUNG will guarantee a perfect and permanent cure in the following cases, or he charges nothing for his services: Syphilis, Gonoerrhoea, Stricture of the Urethra, Affection of the Prostrate Gland, Weakness of the Genitel Organs, Impotency, Sterility, both in the male and female, Spermatoria, or Seminal Weakness, Noctural Emissions, Rheuma tism, Dyspepsia, indigestion, Fever and Ague, Incipient Consumption, and all Irregularities in Females, together with all diseases of Women and Children; also, Nervousness, Palpitation of the Heart, ete. Persons afflicted with symptoms after being treated should consult Dr. Young at once, as no disease is cured unless the patient feels perfectly well. If there is a particle of disease left in the system it will break out some future time, when least expected, or be handed down to an innocent offspring, Persons who have been treated with mercury should be very cautious in believing that they are well, for it isa scientific fact thatt he mercury will mingle with the venereal, and form a disease a great deal worse than the original. All those who have reason to think, by bad feelings, that they have been treated thus, should consult Dr. Young, and he will examine their cases and teil them at once how they stand. This terrible disease is alarmingly on the increase in this country, and should be attended to in season for there is no complaint more dangerous, and attended with more suffering than this fatal disease. Any person who has been troubled with venereal, seminal weakness, or any other private disease, should watch very closely for this trouble. Its first symptoms is generally an unpleasant sensation in the parts, sometimes of a tickling nature, an uneasiness of the mind, an undefined dread of something you know not what, and if not attended to the urine becomes affected, and then follow all those dreadful symptoms which so often result in a miserable and disgusting death. But the suffering, before death comes to reheve the patiett, is dreadful; sometimes plunging the sufferer into that hving death—Insanity. Dr. J. C. Young’s mode of treatment is a new discovery, made within a few years by M, Ricord of the French Venereal Hospital; and is sure. safe and speedy. All afflicted should call on Dr. Young at once, and they will be sure of a permanent cure without an operation. P.8.—Dr. J. C. DO NOT BE DECEIVED. In consequence of the wide spread celebrity of Dr, J.C. Young, certain pretenders have palmed themselves upon the unsuspecting, as being the veritable Dr. Young.
