~ tis NEVADA DEMOCRAT. WEDNESDAY MORNING, AUGUST 11, 1858. pedormat veiriceat 2 callin tomstabecbies: teh oe LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Rospine Cutxese.—One night last week, four white men entered the house of a Chinaman, near Patterson, and carried off every thing of value which they could find. A China woman was the only occupant of the house at the time, the owner being absent at work in his diggingsThey compelled her to tell where the money and other articles were concealed. They took from $200 to $250 in dust, two specimens, one weighing $7,50, the other $11, a silver watch with a gold key attached, a Chinese gold ring. and a pair of silver ear-rings. AnoTuER.—A diabolical outrage was perpetrated on come Chinamen at work on Greenhorn, near where the trail crosses from Hunt's Hill to Red Dog. It seems that five Chinamen were working at the place, andon Monday morning four white men came to their camp and demanded their money. They refused to tell where their money was concealed, and three of them were then taken successively and hang up by the neck until nearly dead when they were let down. They then attempted to hang another, but it seems he made some resistance and was stabbed with a knife. The Chinamen then gave up their money—about $250 in duet—to the robbers, who took it and left. Immediately after the robbery was committed, the Chinaman who was not injured hastened to Red Dog and gave information of the robbery; the alove is the substance of his story. He stated that one of the re)bers was an old man, and the other three were young men, and aleo gave it as his opinion that the Chinaman who was stabbed would die of the wound, Movuntary Fruir.—Much interest bas been taken for the past two or three years in this section in raising fruit, and the experiments already made have demonstrated that nearly all kinds of fruit can be raised in the mountains, Large quantities of peaches were grown in this neighborhood lust year. but the crop of this year was mostly destroyed by the late frosts. Excellent peaches are raised bere, but the tree blooms early, and the crop cannot be considered certain, The apple tree blooms some later than the peach, and the crop is therefore more certain. We noticed the other day, in the orchard of Messrs. Gillespie & Linn, at the head of Gold Flat, some twenty or thirty grape vines fairly loaded down with fruit. The cuttings were procured from Los Angeles and set out four years ago. Ina the same orchard are some twenty apple trees bearing fruit of an excellent quality, but the peacbes were nearly all destroyed by the frost. Mr. Jas. Hoel bas a fine little vineyard on his lot at the head of Broad street, and will raise a considerable quantity of grapes this season, The vineyard covers about two acres of ground and the vines were set out three yeare ago. The peach orchard near Robingon’s Crossing, it is estimated, will yield three bundred bushels of peaches this season. Jvvente Detinquents.—Mr. Tomlinson, baving reason to believe that his sluice boxes, on Manzanita Hill, bad been robbed frequently at night, placed one of his hands to wateh them on Saturday night. Sometime during the night Mr. Shuster, the watchman, discovered three sinall boys in the boxes engaged in escovping out the amalgum. He walked upand asked them what they were doing, upon which the boys dropped their tools and run, They were followed by Mr. Shuster, who succeeded in catching two of them. They were taken to the house of Mr. Tomlinson, who dismissed them with the admonition to ‘‘sin no more.’? The boys are some ten or twelve years of age. They had frequently been known to have considerable quantities of dust, which they bad informed their parents they had panned out themselves. Acctpest.—Mr. W. F. Audersou was severely injured on Sunday eveuing last, by being thrown from a borse. Ile came up from Sacramento, that day. as far as Rough & Ready, in a buggy, and from there to Nevada on horseback. The horse was somewhat fractious, and be wascompelled to get off and lead Lim across the bridges. He bad led him across the bridge near Weiss’ brewery, aud ax he mounted again the horsg jumpped throwing him with great force upon the ground. He was severely injured on the left hip. and otherwise bruised, but no bones were broken. Turatnicat.—Mr. J. 8. Potter, has seeured the services of an excellent dramatie troupe, and opens at Temperance Hall to-morrow evening. Among the members of the company are Mr. J. H. Warwick, Mise H. Carpenter, and others of acknowledged merit. They have been playing at Downieville for the past few weeks where they have drawn good houses, and their efforts to amuse the public have been much commended by the papers of that town. We eall attention to their advertisement ia another column. Fer San Quentin.—Sheriff Irwin, of Sierra eounty, arrived at Nevada yesterday, on his way to San Quentin, having in charge Alexander MeClure and Jobn Harly, convicted at Downieville and sentenced to the Penitentiary. McClure was convicted of murder in the second degree and sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment; Hurley was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to two years. The prisoners were lodged iu jail, aodare to be taken below this morning. Court or Sessions,—This Court met on Monday, pursuant to adjournment, and the followfag gentlemen were empannelled and sworn as grand jurors: Henry Arnold, N. S. Dewer, A. Lambeth, C. Abbott, D. Ransom, J. Caldwell, Capt. Irwin, A. Buchanan, Wm. Tisdale. RobtMeCary. R. O. Hickman, T. P. Barnes, Wm. Andrews, J. P. Holmes, C.S. Smith, Wm. Westerfield. J. Meyers, Samuel Sentill, James Whartenby, Scuoor at Rep Doe.—A public school has recently been established at Red Dog, under charge of a female teacher, and now numbers seme eighteen or twenty scholars. Messrs J. M. Grove, G. B. Zaffand J. C. Green, have been appointed Trustees of the District by the County Superintendent. The school is now ine flourishing condition. Excuancrs.—We are indebted to the Alta Express, and to Langton & Co., for exchange Papere furnished daring the past week. TuEater.—A number of enterprising mechanics have commenced building a theater on Main street, a short distance below the banking house of J. C. Birdseye. The foundation is now being laid, and # portion of the lumber for the building is om the ground, The structure is to be 35 feet front and 80 feet deep. Case or PLumer.—We learn that the remittur in the case of the People vs. Henry Plumer was received yesterday from-the Supreme Court. Crapkay.—We would direct the especial attention of invalids to a perusal of Dr. L. J. Czapkay’s advertisement, ‘o be found in another column of this paper, in order to place the services of a learned and experienced physician within their reach. So much ill has been inflicted on the human family from the pernicious and ignorant practices of empirics, that it seems as if we were filling a bounden duty to maxe known where judicious relief can be obtained. To those unfortunate enough to suffer from the effects of sexual or private diseases, or their ill-treatment, we cheerfully commend Dr. L. J. Czapkay as a man of rare scientific and medical acquirements, possess. ing all the requisites, from long experience and acknowledged skill, for the successful practice of his profession.— Having made sexual complaints uu especial study, like the celebrated Ricord, of Paris, he is enabled to guarantee a speedy and permanent cure in all cases of private or chronic disease, whether the effects of contagion, self-abuse, or loss of virility, and in order that patients ata distance may avail themselves of his advice, free consultation by letter is open tothem. The knowledge that we have of the numerous cures he has effected, some of which were of long standing, leads us to place much faith in Dr. C's. efficacy, and commend him to the confidence of those in ill health, Dr. Czapkay’s office is in Sacramento street, below Montgomery, nearly opposite the Pacific Mail Steamship Co’s Office, San Francisco.
