AY g Levada Democrat. ‘LOCAL MATTERS. REPUBLICAN, OR Unton Conventron.<= The delegates to this Convention met at the Theater, at two o’clock this afternoon, and organized by electing W. H. Sears temporary Chairman, and E. F. Spence temporary Secretary. Committees were appointed on credentials, permanent organization, order of business and resolutions, when the Convention ad. journed for one hour to give the committees time to report. The canvassing for the nomination for Senator has been quite active since yesterday evening, and strenuous exertions are being made to defeat Birdseye, his opponents having hit upon Murdock as the most available man for that purpose. Birdseye’s friends, however, claim that he has a clear majority, but the parties seem to be about equally divided, and there is no telling how the vote will stand until the ayes and noes are counted. BRECKINRIDGE CONVENTION.—Pursuant tothe call of the Breckinridge County Committee, the delegates met at the Court House, between eleven and twelve o’clock, this forenoon, and having organized temporarily, and appointed Committees on credentials and order of business, adjourned until two o’clock. Our paper goes to press attoo early an hour to . give any further proceedings. The Convention was called to elect delegates to the State . ‘Convention, and nominate a ticket; but they . will probably postpone the nomination of a ticket until after the meeting of their State . Convention. Primary ELection.—We hope our friands will bear in mind that the Union Democratic . primary election is held at the City Hall, at half past seven o’clock this evening. There is no contest forthe nominations, and for that reuson there will be no mustering of the friends of different candidates; yet those who feel an ‘interest in sustaining the party organization should be present at the primary meeting, and elect men to the Convention who will represent their views. Hospital PATIENTS.—Eleven patients were admitted into the Nevada County Hospital dur‘ing the month of July. Three patients died in the Hospital during the month—two of them within a day or two after their admission. In addition to these, one small pox patient, who also died, was taken care of at the expense of the county. County Business.—The County Supervisors meet on Monday next in regular term, to transact county business. They will be in session three or four days, and as they meet the week after asa Board of Equalization, they will probably adjourn so as to hold meetings for county business until the middle of the month. INDICTED FOR MurpER.—The Grand Jury, summoned especially to investigate the case of Wm. Berbeck, who killed —— Hitchel, at Orleans Flat, some three weeks ago, convened this morning, and found a true bill for murder against the accused. The case will be certified to the District Court. DAGUERREAN GALLELY.—Mons. Liebert . has sold out his splendid Daguerrean Gallery; on Broad street, to Mr. M. J. McCutcheon, who continues the business at the old stand, and is prepared to take daguerreotypes, photographs, etc., in the best style of the art. Wako Weatnen.—The weather to-day has . been warmer than any previous day this season. At seven o'clock this morning the mercury . stood at 74 degrees above zero, and at two . o’elock it had gone up to 95 degrees. UNIVERSALIST SERvicEs.—Reyv. Mr. Walton, the Universalist clergyman, will preach at Mr. Pressy’s school room. on Spring street, tomorrow forenoon. The service will commence at eleven o’clock. NEWSPAPER Favors.—Pattison, of Langton & Co’s Pioneer Express, has our thanks . for late Nevada Territory papers; also, for . Marysville papers furnished ahead of the mail. . RELA HEAL eae Heattu or SAN Francisco.—During the . last month, says the Pacific Medical Journal, there were 160 interments in the different cem. eteries of the city, showing a slight increase of . the mortality over that of the preceding month, . in which the interments were 152. This in-. crease of mortality has been principally among . children, and caused, we believe, by the preva. lence of diarrhoea. ‘This disease has affected a . large portion of our population, adults as well . as children, and although we have not met with . any cases amongst the adult population which . did not yield to treatment, yet the symptoms . presented ina large proportion of the cases show the prevalence of an atmospheric influence which on three occasions we have known . to precede a severer epidemic form of the dis. ease. We have also ascertained that an analo. gous form of disease is prevailing at Sacramen. to, showing more clearly its connection with . some wide-spread atmospheric influence inde. pendent of temperature or other meteorological . condition of the atmosphere. Under these circumstances, we would advise our citizens to be cautious in the use of unripe fruit, cucumbers, . or other vegetables that are difficult of diges. tion. Good ripe fruit is a most wholesome ar. ticle of diet—it is only that which is not fully . matured or that has been kept too long that should be avoided. Recerprs at Tus Crstom Hovse.—The receipts for duties at the San Francisco, Custom House, during the month of July, . amounted to $496,841 98. This is larger . sum than was ever before collected, at that . port in tLe same space of tiwe, Spe cial Notices . . . New Books, ete,—A. P. Repineton, & Co., Agents, San Francisco, To Correspondents.—Patients residing in any part of the State, however distant, who may desire the opinion and advice of Dr, Young, on their respective cases, and who think proper to submit a written statement of such, in preference to holding a personal interview, are respectfully assured that their communications will be held most sacred. Dr. Young takes this opportunity of observing that all letters are only opened and replied to by himself, and the latter as promptly as possible. If the case be fully and candidly described, personal communications will be superceded, as instructions for diet, regimen, and the genera! treatment of the case itself, (inelu. ding the remedies,) will be forwarded without delay, and in such a manner as to convey no idea of the . purport of the letter or parcel so transmitted, e@ Office, 751 Clay street, San Francisco, Consultation gratis, J, C.
