This island is a low coralive formation, with an elevation of not more ‘than four or five feet above the level of the ven, and with vo fresh water of any kind on it. When the sloop arrived and her boat Yanded,the dog ran to meet and welcome his visitors, and gave expression to the eatest joy. He immediately jumped into ‘the boat, determined not to be left behind when it sboeld again push off, and there se oreted himself tor a long time, or until be Pound that the sailore intended staying sume fimé. But the eagerness with which be watohed the boat every day and stayed by the men, showed that he had great fear of being left again. The fact that this dog has lived for more than two years on birds’ opens a question for physiologists, or an indefinite period of time on the same food without water.
