aR pn Legal Notices. Legal Notices, FORCED RECRUIT AT SOLFERINO. BY BLIZABBTH BARRETT BROWNING. In the ranks of the Austrians you found him; Hie died with his to you all; Yet bury him where around him You honor your bravest that fall. Venitian, fair featured and slender, He lies shot to death in bis youth, Bmile on his lips over-tender any mere soldier’s dead mouth. No , and yet not a traitor! Thongh alien to the cloth on his breast, Underneath it how seldom a greater Young heart has a shot sent to reat! By your enemy tortured and goaded To march with them, stand in their file, Hia ransket (see!) never was loaded— He facing your guns with that smile! ‘As orphans yearn on their mothers, He yearned to your patriot bands— ““Let me die for our Italy, brothers, If not in your ranks by your hands! “Aim straightly, fire steadily; spare me A wall in the body, which may Deliver my heart here, and tear me This badge of the Austrian away!” So thought he, so died he this morning, What then? many others have died. Ay—but easy for men to die scorning The death-stroke, who fought side by side. One tri-color — above thes, Strucs down mid triumphant acclaims Ofan Italy rescued to love them And blazon the brass with their names. But he—without witness or honor, Mixed, shamed in his country’s regard, With the tyrants who march in upon her— Died faithful and passive: ’twas hard, ’Twas sublime, Ina erael restriction Cut off from the guerdon of sons, With most filial obedience, conviction, His soul kissed the lips of her guns, That moves you? nay, grudge not to show it, While digging a grave for him here, The others who died, says your poet, Have glory—~lot him have a tear, Atrocitics 1N Mextco.—A correspondent of the Bulletin writing from Maxatlan, Nov, 19tb, saye: During the recent campaign of the cler4 forces agaiust this place, under the panish cut-throat Cajen and the Indian cut-throat Losada, the latter of these wretched men took.up his quarters in the town of Santiago, near Tepic, where he gave his Indian followers the largest license to rob, destroy, rape, and murder. In their diabolical reveling, they attacked and destroyed a large cotton factory, lately built bys company of foreign workmen, principally Americans, Not satisfied with this, they seized twelve of the workmen and put ‘them to a barbarous death. We have pot Ph received the particulars of this business, r. Conner, United States Consul at this port, has gone to Tepic to investigate these atrocities and report upon them to the Government. SomNaMBunism—A sickly girl in Plymouth, N. H., asomnambulist, with a strong propensity to run off with things and hide them where they could not be found, nor she herself remember, so that at last it was townd ‘necessary to lock her in securely at night, made off, a few weeks since with a valuable watch. Then the family gave ber liberty, and watched her movements, in the hope ‘that the same somnambulism that carried it off would again find it, The other night she started out followed by her brothér, She walked places that he dared not follow; but the moonlight helped to show her course, and he kept along. Finally she walked up the trank of an old tree that hung at an angle of forty-five degrees over a brook, stood firmly at the top while the tree swayed beneath ber, and stooping down brought out that watch, Returning to terTa firma, the brother waked her, took the property, and then burried home, A Prerendep Corpse Revivep anp Fvena. . —Levi ‘Durbin, Rows A of Davenport, lowa, Was‘hang at Pike's Peak, a short time since by the Vigilance Committee for atealing males, When he learned that the Committee were'after him, he got some comrades to lay him out.after the manner.of a corpse—he figuring stark dead, One of the Vigilant boys was left to watch at'a convenient place to see whether it was a ruse or not, ‘and goon the corpse took to its legs. He was then arrested and hung. Wrear Cror tx Minnesora.—For the present year the wheat crop in Miunesota, is said to be 6,000,000 bushels. This ie by far the largest crop of wheat ever produced in any State, in proportion to the population -~being 34 bushels to every inbabitant. The average yield of wheat this year was about 28 bushels to the acre. — Oxruorie Cuvrct ty Srocxron.—The Catholics of Stockton will erect a fine church in the Spring, which, the Republican says, will far surpass, in architectural beauty and stze, ‘any building in that.city, The depth of the building will be 119 feet and the width inside 37} feet. Frarvou.—For a young State, says the Stockton Republican, our Insane Asylum and State Prison are worse crowded than apy other State in the Union. Such as Nervous Trembling, Loss of memory, Loss of Power, General Weakness, Dimness of Vision, with uliar spots appearing before the eyes, Loss of Sight, Wakefulness, Dyspepsia, Liver Diseases, Eruptions upon the Face, Pain in the Back and Head, Female Irregularities, and all improper discharges of both sexes, It matters not from what cause the disease originated, however long standing or obstinate the case, recovery is certain, and ina shorter time than a permanent cure can be effected by any other treatment, even after the disease has baffled the skill of eminent physicians and resisted all their means of cure. The medicines preseribed are pleasant, without odor, entirely vegetable, causing no sickness, and free from mereury or balsam. During fifteen years of practice, in Europe, the Atlantic States, and California, I have rescued from the jaws of death many thousands, who, in the last stages of the above men tioned diseases, had been given up to die by their physicians, which warrants me in promising to the afflicted, who may place themselves under my care, a perfect and speedy cure. Private diseases are the greatest enemies to health, as they are the first cause of Consumption, Scrofula, and many other diseases, and should be a terror to the human family. A permanent cure is — ever effected, a inajority of the eases falling into the hands of incompetent persons, who not only fail to cure the disease, but ruin the constitution, filling the system with mercury, which, with the disease, hastens the sufferer into a rapid consumption. ut should the disease and the treatment not cause death lily, and the victim marries, the disease is entailed upon the children, who are born with feeble constitutions, and the current of life corrupted by a virus, which betrays itself in scrofula, tetter, ulcers, eruptions, and other affections of the skin, eyes, throat and lungs, entailing upon them a brief existance of suffering, and consigning them to an early rave, i Seny-Anuse is anotber formidable enemy to health, for nothing else in the dread catalogue of human diseases causes so destructive a drain upon the system, drawing its thousands of victims, through a few years of suffering, down to an untimely grave. It destroys the nervous system, vot wd wastes away the energies of life, causes mental derangement, prevents the proper developement of the system, disqualifies for muriage, society, business, and all earthly bappines, and leaves the sufferer wrecked in body and mind, predisposed to consumption, and a train of evila more to be dreaded than death itself, With the fullest confidence I axsure the unfortunate victims of Self-abuse, that a permanent and speedy cure can be effected, and with the abandonment of ruinous practices my patients can be restored to robust, vigorous he#lth, Ivregelarities, and all diseases of males and females, treated on principles established by fifteen years of practice, and sanctioned by thousands of the most remarkable cures, Medicines, with full directions, sent to any partof the State, Oregon and Washington Territory, by patients communicating by letter, their symptoms.
