Arrival of the Overland Mail.
The Quickest Trip ever made over the Plains—Only
Nineteen Days from St. Louisto San Jose.
The overland mail by the southern route arrived at San Jose, at 12 o’clock, Dec. 25th.
with dates from St. Louis to Dee. 6th—being
only nineteen days from that place. This is
the quickest trip ever made across the Plains.
The mail was brought a portion of the way
by horse express, and the time from St. Louis
to San Francisco was nineteen days and fifteen
hours.
By this arrival the President’s message has
been received.
A telegraphic dispatch to the St. Louis Demoerat, dated Washington, Dec. Ist, says that the
President has finally decided to recommend a
temporary revision of the tariff, and will so advise in his message.
Hon. James Chestnut has been elected U. S.
Senator, by the Legislature of South Carolina,
in place of Senator Evans, deceased.
Gen, Paez, the distinguished exile, and former President of Venezuela, left New York for

ALLHEALING OINTMENT, OR WORLD'S SALVE,
Combines in such an eminent degree all the
Healing, Curative, Soothing and ExQualities,
Known to medical science, that physicians, families and
medical men are gratified and astonished at its results.
ss, oe 8
Tt almost immediately extracts the pain, and heals the
wound without a scar. When applied to any
Swelling, Sore, Chilblain, Polson, Burn, Skin
Eruption, Itch, &e.,
Its effects are magical.
McAllister’s All-Healing Ointment
Is truly a Family Medicine, which cannot be well dispensed
with. The estimation in which this article is held in some
sections of the country is sech, that parents would not retire at night without some of it in the house.
Dear Sir :—In December, 1850, I passed through a very
virulent attack of shall-pox, leaving me covered with eruptions, and one eye entirely closed. In three days from the
time I commenced using your ointment! was entirely
cured, and not a pit or scar can now be seen on my body
As my case wasa very remarkable one, it affords me .
pleasure in informing others of what McAllister’s Ointment
will do. Very respectfully yours,
Toe D. GIBBS,
194 Jay street, Brooklyn.
I hereby certify that I have been effectually cured of severe piles of long standing by the use of McAllister’s AllHealing Ointment. The cure was entirely effected by less
than six boxes. I have paid different physicians more
than $100, Everybody ought to know about this ointment
Truly Yours, ZENAS COVEL, Pastor M. E. Church,

Poets sing of the spicies in Indian Isles,
Of the citron, the orange and lime;
They sing of the fragrance so lavish diffas’d
By the breeze in each tropical elime. :
Lat the epicure boast of ench high-flavor'd dish,
The flavor of wines or French brandy,
Yet none of the list named above can com
With J. Regan’s “Steam Refin’d Candy,”
Rich spices and fruits and sweet flow
Or dishes for epicures dainty; abcieactiaihdah anes
But the question in this I will not debate,
Yet each have admirers in plenty.
Withal, there are none of them half so well
From the sweet rattling child to the dandy,
An that eweetest of sweels, everywhere idolized—
