The Way to Spoll Girls.
If any parent wishes a recipe how to spoil
daughters, it can be easily and readily given,
and can be proved by the experience of hundreds to be certain and efficacious,
1. Be always telling her, from earliest childhood, what a beautiful oreatare she is, It iso
capital way of inflating the vanity of a little
irl, to be constantly exclaiming, “how pretty!’’
bildren understand such flattery, even when .
in the nurse’s arms, and the evilis done the
character in its earliest formation,
2. Begin as soon as she can toddle around,
to rig her up in fashionable clothes and rich
dresses, Put a hoop upon her at once, with all
the artificial ornaments of flounces, and feathers, and flowers and curls, Fondness for dress
will thas become a promivent characteristic
and will usurp the whole attention of the young
eo and be a long step towards spoiling
er.
8. Let her visit so much that she finds no
happiness at home, and, therefore, will not be
apt to be there and learn home duties. Itisa
capital thing for a — daughter to seek all
her happiness in visiting, and change of place
and associates, She will thus grow up as useless
as modern fashionable parents delight that their
daughters should be,
4, Let her reading ‘consist of novels of the
nauseatingly sentimental kind. She will be
spoiled sooner than if she perused history or
science. Her heart will be occupied by ficticious ecenes and feelings ; her mind filled with
uorealities; and her aims placed on fashion
and dress and romantic attachments.
4. Be careful that her education gives her a
smattering of all the accomplishments, without
the slightest knowledge of things really useful
in life. Your ory ne won’t be mee so lon
as she has areal desire to be useful in the world,
and aime at its accomplishment. If ber mind
and time are oceupied in modern accomplishments, there will be no thought of the necessity
and virtue of being of some real use to somebody, pervading her heart, and she will be soon
ready as a spoiled daughter,
6. As aconsequence, keep her in profound
ignorance of all the useful arts of housekeeping,
impressing upon her mind that it is vulgar to
do anything for yourself, or to learn how anything is done in the house, A spoiled daughter
should never be taught the mysteries of the
kitchen—such things a lady always leaves to
the servants, It would be “vulgar” for her to
know how to dress trout or shad, to bake, to
wash, to iron, to sweep, to wring the neck of a
live chicken, pluck it and prepare it for breakfast, or do anything that servants are hired to
do, Asa mistress of a house, it is her duty to
sit on @ velvet sofa all day, in the midst of a
poe of silks and flounces, reading the last
ash novel, while her domestics are performing
the labors of the house.
To complete the hapviness of your spoILep
PAUGHTER, marry her to a bearded youth, with
soft hands, who knows as little how to earn
money as she does to save it. Her happiness
will be rinisuep, for her life-time.

and all improper discharges of both sexes, It matters
not from what cause the disease originated, however long
standing or obstinate the case, Recovery 1s Certain, and
in a shorter time than a permanent cure can be effected
by any other treatment, even after the disease has baffled
the skill of eminent physicians and resisted all their
means of cure. The medicines prescribed are pleasant,
without odor, entirely vegetable, causing no sickness, and
free from mercury or balsam. During fifteen years of
ractice in Europe, the Atlantic States and California, I
re rescued from the jaws of death many thousands,
who, in the last stages of the above mentioned diseases,
had been given up to die by their physicians, which warrants mein promising tothe afflicted, who may place
themselyes nnder my care, a perfect and speedy cure,
Private diseases are the greatest enemies to health, as
they are the frst cause of Consumption, Scrofula, and
many other diseases, and should be a terror to the human family, A permanent cure is scarcely ever effected,
a majority of the cases falling into the hands of incompetent persons, who not only failto cure the disease, but
ruin the constitation, filling the system with mercury,
which, with the disease, hastens the sufferer into a rapid
consumption,
But should the disease and the treatment not cause
death speedily, and the victim marries, the disease is entailed upon the children, who are born with weakly constitutions, andthe current of life corrupted by a virus
which betrays itself in scrofula, tetter, ulcers, eruptions,
and other affections of the skin, eyes, throatand lungs,
entailing upon them a brief existence of suffering and
consigning them to an early grave.
SELF-ABUSE is another formidable enemy to health,
for nothing else in the dread catalogue of disease causes
so destructive a drain upon the system, drawing its thousands of victins through a few years of suffering to an untimely grave. It destroys the nervous system, rapidly
wastes away the energies of life, causes mental derangement, prevents the proper developmsnt of the system,
disqualfies for marriage, society, business, and all earthly
happiness, and leaves the sufferer wrecked in body and
mind, predisposed to consumption and a train of evils
more to be dreaded than death itself. With the fullest
confidence, I assure the unfortunate victims of self-abuse
that a permanent and speedy cure can be effected, and
with the abandonment of ruinous practices, my patients
can be restored to robust, vigorous health,
Ircegularities and all diseases of males and females, are
treated on principles established by filteen years of practice, and sanctioned by thousands of the most remarkable
cures. Medicines with full directions, sent to any part of

Remarkable Instance of Medical Rellef.
Below we publish the certificates of three of the sufferers from the pangs of disease, who, baving recovered their

authenticated by a Notary Pablic. The demands of society imperiously command their publicity, and we commend their perusal to the attention of all afflicted :
A Tribute to Merited Worth—Remarkable
Cure of Consumption!
HE ALMOST MIRACULOUS CURE that
has been effected in my case, prompts me to {mpart
to those of my fellow creatures who may be suffering from
like affliction, the source of relief, with a short deseription of my case, Several years ago my health began to
fail, I was attacked by general weakness and debility,
which reduced me to the mere shadow of my former self
At that stage I sought medical assistance, and ex pended
large amounts, but without the least beneficial result.
That fell destroyer CONSUMPTION, had already seized
upon my vitals, I was daily drawing closer to the tomb;
my physicians held out no hope of recovery; my strength
had wasted, and I was in astate of almost utter prostration, 1 was informed by my physicians that they could
do nothing for me except to smooth my path to the grave
when, most fortunately, I applied to Dr. L. J. Czapkay,
and am now a well and perfectly sound man. Itis diflicult for me to express the emotions of deepest gratitude I
experience when realizing the immeasurable service I
have received at the hands of Dr, Czapkay, and feel re
joiced that it is at least in my power to to tender this feeble recognition of his gieat skill and capacity. To the afflicted IT would say, do not despair, for whatever may be
the nature of your case, 1 am confident that you will find
relief by applying to Dr. L. J. Czapkay, ‘' There is balra
in Gilead, and there is a physician there,”’

Thankfulness is the Incentive to Gratitade,
(CERTIFICATE, )
The undersigned, desirous of acquainting those who
may be unfortunate enough to be similarly afflicted,
where a permanent relief of their sufferings may be obtained, feels it his duty to thus publicly express his most
sincere gratitude to Dr. L. J. Czapkay for the permanent
recovery of his health. Borne down by the distressing
symptoms incident to the vicious practices of uncontrolable passion in youth, depressed in body and mind, unable
to wee even the must trifling duty imposed by the
daily avocations of life, 1 sought the advice of many physicians, who at first regarded my disease as of trifling im
portance; but, alas, after a few weeks, and in several instances, months of their treatment, I found, to my unutterable horror, that instead of relief, my symptoms became more alarming in their torture ‘ and “being told by
one that my disease being principally confined to tne
brain, medicine wouid be of little consequence, I despaired
of ever regaining my health, strength and energy ; and as
a last resort, and with but a faint hope. I called upon Dr,
eps who, after examining my case, prescribed some
medicine, which almost instantly relieved me of the dull
in and dizziness in my head. Encouraged by the result
resolved to place myself under his care, and, by a strict
obedience to all his directions and advice, my head became clear, my ideas collected, the constant pain in my
back and groins, the weakuess of my limbs, the nervous
reaction of my whole body on the slightest alarm or excitement, the misanthropy and evil forebodings, the selfdistrust and want of contidence in others, the incapability
to study, the wantof resolution, the frightful, exciting
and at times pleasurable dreams by night, followed by involuntary discharges, have all disappeared, and, in fact
in two months after having consulted the Doctor. I felt as
ifinspired by a new life—that life which, a short time
ago, . contemplated to end with my own hand,
With « view to guard the unfortunate from falling into
the snares of incompetent quacks, 1 deem it my duty to
offer this testimony to the merits and skill of Dr. Czapka
and recommend him to all who may stand in need of pan
ical advice, being assured by my own experience, that
whe a his care, a radical and permanent cure will be

Prompted b: I Saeed ompted by an honest desire of my h i
before the public a case which phew Bong DAadren rh
not only as an act of scientific skill, but that of humanity
also. About two years ago I suddenly, and from causes
unknown to me, was seized with a fit of Epilepsy, which
owing to my inability to meet the expenses consequent
upon a thorough medical treatment, and the discoutragement which I met with on attempting it, soon became
such (as I was then led to believe) as to defy the skill of
po! physician, I was frequently, while in pursuit of m
calling, thrown down to the ground without the slightest
warning ; and, although insensible to the agonies, I yet
despised the miseries of my life, and soon learned to look
upon those who would render assistance or shelter me
from danger as my enemies, who sought to prolong the
existence ofmy miseries. While in this state, and having, previous to my affliction, tasted the sweets of life, .
once more was induced to attempt seeking aid of a ph ysician, and by recommendation upon Dr. L. J. Czapkay. 1 told him of my circumstance, and of my inabilit
to reward him for his services, regardless of which poved
ever, he at once undertook my case, and, with the blessing ot God, Iwas once more restored to perfect health
Unable to reward him for the boon which I enjoy at present, and yet conscious of my indebtedness, I consider it
due to myself and all afflicted, to make the case public, in
order that those in need of medical advice may find apliy.

TO THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA, AND
TRAVELERS TO THE EASTERN
STATES:
There is no malady of deeper importance, either ina .
medical or moral point of view, to which the human fam.
ily is more liable, than that arising from impure connections. As a medical man it is the duty of every physician
to look at disease as it affects health and life, and his sole
object should be to mitigate, as far as lies in his power,
their bodily suffering. Human nature is at best but frail;
all are liable to misfortune.
Of all ills that afflict man, none are more terrible than
those of a private nature. Dreadful as it is in the person
who contracts it, frightfulas are its ravages upon his
constitution, ending frequently in destruction and a loathsome grave, it becomes of still greater importance when .
it is transmitted to innocent offspring. Such being the
case, how important it becomes that every one having
the least reason to fear they have contracted the disease,
should attend to it at once by consul ing some physician
whose respectability and education enables him to warrant a safe, speedy and permanent cure.
In accordance with this necessity, Dr, Stackpole feels
ealled upon to state that by long study and extensive
practice he has become perfect master of all those diseases
which come under the denomination of venereal, and having paid more attention to that branch thanany other
physician in the Uuited States, he feels himself better
qualified to treat them.
Syphilis in all its forms, such as Uleers, swelling of the
groins, ulcers in the throat, secendary syphilis, syphilis
in children, mercurial syphilistic effections, gonorrhoea,
gleet, strictures, false passages, inflamation of the bladder
and prostrate glands, excoriations, tumors, pustules, etc.
areas familiar to him as the most common things or
daily observations. The doctor effects a cure in recent
cases in a few days, and finds no difficulty in curing those
oflong duration without submiting the patient to such
treatment as will draw upon him the slightest suspicion,
or oblige him to neglect bisebusiness, whether in doors or
without. The diet need not ! snged exceptin cases
of severe in flamation. There ::v in California, patients
(amounting to over 20,000 in the past year,) that could
furnish proof of this ; but these are matters that require
the nicest secrecy, which he always preserves.
All letters enclosing $10 will be promptly attended to.

DR. STACKPOLE, addresses those who have injured
themselves . private and improper indulgence in that
secret and solitary habit which ruins the body and mind,
unfitting them for either business or society. The following are some of the sad and melancholy effects produced by early habits of youth, viz : weakness ot the back
and loins ; pains in the be ; dimness of sight; loss of
muscular powor; palpitation of the heart; dyspepsia ;
nervousness ; irritability ; derangement of the digestive
functions ; general debility ; 8ymptoms of consumtion ete,
Menta1LY—The fearful effects upon the mind are more
to be dreaded. Loss of memory, confusion of ideas, depression of spirits, evil forebodings, aversion to society,
self distrust, love ofsalitude, timidity, &c., are most of
the evils produced,
All person’ who are afflicted with any of the above
symptoms, should not fail to call Dr. Stackpole, and be at

Opinions of the Press,
The following are selected from a voluminous atcumulation of testimonials of the Press of the United States,
and from eminent Profeesors of our institutions where
the practice of medicine is taught :
FROM THE SAORAMENTO STANDARD,
The question is often asked, *‘Why is it that Dr. Stackpole is so successful; while other advertising physicians
are failing from day to day?’ The answer must be, or
should be, plainly apparent to all; itis that he understands his profession, and as his practice increases his
knowledge extends. So close has been his application to
his unprecedented Practice that he isa perfect master of
his profession, and can insure all relief, from their troubles
is onward and upward, placing him at the head of his arduous profession, His increase of business has been
ofextended knowledge and practice. We would advise all
afflicted to call upon him in preference to any other phyHouse, San Francisco.

can sympathise with persons in affliction, His standing
as a physician anda gentleman are both guaranteed—
the first by his medical works, which are an honor to
