Aevada Democrat. ne see . ae . LOCAL MATTERS, : Movnt Ono.—A gentleman down from Mt. . Oro, informs us that the Pony Express Com. pany, whose claims adjoin those of Yorty & Co. and who have been engaged for the past six or eight months in running a tunnel, struck through the rim-rock on Saturday last, and . found the gravel in what has the appearance of . being the bed of an ancient stream. Our informant left soon after the company got through . consequently we have no informationas to how . the gravel prospects. The Yorty Company are . drifting out the gravel in their claims, and we . are informed are making good pay. The Black . Hawk Company, whose claims are above, and adoune Yorty’s, are pushing ahead their tun. nel, making about a foot aday in the bed-rock. Martinettr Trovurg.—By a notice in an other column, it will be observed that the Mar. tinetti Troupe will appear at the Theater in. Nevada on Thursday evening next. The com. , pany consists of over thirty performers, and . their entertainments have been the wonder and admiration of all who have beheld them. This . is the same company, with one or two changes, that gave entertainments in this place some . years ago. They have recently returned from the Atlantic States, and have been performing to crowded houses at San Francisco, Sacramento, Marysville, and other places. It is merely necessary that the public should know of their . irrival to insure a crowded house in this place. Farat AccipEntT.—A fatal mining accident . oceurred near Chalk Bluff, about ten o’clock, . yesterday morning. Two men named David Essex and Geo. Nichols, while at work in hy. draulic diggings, were buried by the caving of . the bank. The miners in that vicinity immedi. ately went to work to extricate the unfortunate . men, and succeeded in taking Nichols out alive, . but Essex was dead when they reached his body. . He was probably killed instantly. Dr. R. M. Hunt, who was sent for to attend Nichols, in. forms us that he was severely bruised but will . recover. Harn Restoratiye.—We have received from Mr. Warren, of French Corral, two large . bottles of ““‘Warren’s Hair Restorative.” He informs us it will turn gray hair to its natural color, and produce a new crop on a bald pate. As one of the attaches of our office is gray asa . badger, and another is bare-footed on top of his . head, we are in a condition to,test the virtues of . the mixture. If it produces the effect stated by the manufacturer, we shall duly inform the “public. PostroneD.—It will be noticed by an advertisement in another column, that Mons. Liebert . has postponed his presentation raffle, until Saturday evening, March 23. The postponement . beCame necessary in consequence of the bad weather interfering with the sale of tickets, and a larger number of unsold tickets than expec. ted were returned from the country. The draw. ing will take place at the Metropolitan Theater, at the time stated, without fail. EXctTeEMentT.—Quite an excitement was oc. casioned about eight o'clock yesterday cvening, . by the cry of “murder!” proceeding from near . the corner of Pine and Commercial streets, and . loud enough to be heard nearly all over town. A crowd immediately rushed to the spot, and . found the noise was occasioned by a drunken . man, whom officer Rider was endeavoring to take to the lock-up. AcqvitTTeD.—Mrs. Deba Kempton, of Grass Valley, who was indicted at the last session of the Grand Jury for arson, in setting fire toa} building adjoining her own, was tried in the District Court yesterday and acquitted. She was supposed to be temporarily insane when the act was committed, but as little evidence . was adduced by the prosecution, the plea of insanity was not set up. ASTRONOMICAL LEcTURE.—Prof. L. Cary, . the celebrated astronomical lecturer, gives an . intellectual entertainment at the Nevada Theater thisevening. The lecture will be illustrated . by a great number of views of the starry heavens, beautiful paintings, etc., for a deseription . of which the reader is referred to the programmes. Admittance, fifty cents. ACCIDENT.—About one o'clock this after. noon, a son of Col. Edwards, of Selby Flat, aged . about twelve years, in attempting to climb out . of a ditch, where he had been to let on water, fell back and was severely injured. Dr. Wickes, . who was called to attend him, informs us that he will recover. HoMESsTEAD FOR SALE.—We direct atten. tion to the advertisement of Mr. Hixson, who . offers for sale a very desirable homestead. The place is situated near the west gap of Sugar Loaf, is an eligible location for a family residence, and can be purchased on reasonable . terms. Accounts AvpiITED.—During the late ses. sion of the Board of Supervisors, accounts were allowed on the several funds as follows: General fund, $2,706 75; Special fund, $1,853 00; . Indigent Sick fund, $2,400 00; Road fund, . $343 53—total $7,303 28. Navapa Ririzs.—A meeting of the Neva. da Rifles will be held on Thursday evening . next, at seven o’clock, at the Court House, for the purpose of electing officers and transacting other business of importance. j j . with vegetable products, they are enabled with.con. . edy for all diseases arising from impurity of the blood . The friends of J. E, HAMLIN, we hope will still con. ati Sarsaparillashas long been endorsed by the . medical fuculty as a mild, safe and effective aperient . and alferative.
