Soy Aevada Democrat. “LOCAL MATTERS, — County Frxances--The report. of the Treasurer, published in another column, shows the present indebtedness of the county, and the receipts and disbursements from November 19th, 1860, to February 6th, 1861. By this it appears that the outstanding warrants on the general fund, including estimated interest, amounted on the 6th inst. $112,825 04; on the indigent sick fund, $16,914 20—making a total $129,739 24, Deducting from this the sum of $7,340 61, the amount of cash balances on hand belonging to the two funds at the date of the report, and we have $122,398 63 as the present indebtedness of the county. The total indebtedness of the two funds on the {9th of November last, deducting the cash balances, . was $124,082 02—showing a reduction of the . county debt in two months anda half, of $1,683 39. Itis probable that not less than $6,000 of the special fund will be turned over to the general f und, at the meeting of the Board in May next. Arrray.—A fracas occurred about eleven o’clock last night, at the house of “Irish Maggie,” on Pine street, between Henry Plumer and W. J. Muldoon. They got into a fight, and Plumer struck Muldoon on the head with a pistol, cutting a gash in the scalp some three inches in length. Muldoon rushed out of the house, and soon became so weak from the ‘oss of blood that he could scarcely stand. He was then taken into Leonard’s book bindery. on Commercial street, and Dr. Meek was called in to dress his wounds. About two o’clock in the morning his attendants entertained some fears that he might die, and Justice Smith was called up to take down his “dying statement” of the occurrence. His injuries, however, are not considered dangerous. No arrest has been made. Muldoon formerly kept a cigar store at North San Juan. He is now at Baily’s hotel. Fata AccipEeNtT.—A miner named William Mara was fatally injured near Grass Valley last Monday night. He started about eleven o’clock to work the night shift in some diggings. On his way, his light was blown out, and he accidentally fell into a shaft forty feet deep, dislocating his spine and otherwise injuring him. He laid there until the next morning, unable to call for assistance. His friends commenced a starch for him early on Tuesday morning and found him about nine o’clock. He was immediately taken out and properly cared for, but his injuries proved fatal. He died on Wednesday morning. The deceased, we understand, was a native of Ireland, and has a family in the Eastern States. a ee Escarsep.—A prisoner named David Thompson, who was convicted at Lowell Hilla week or two ago, of stealing a gun, and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, made his escape from the chain-gang to-day. It appears that he was troubled with a bowel complaint, and took advantage of liberties allowedhim to escape. He is about thirty-five years old; dark complexion; claims to be an Irishman, but has_ the appearance of being part negro; is about five feet eleven inches in height, and has a bad countenance. Areasonable charge will be paid for his arrest and delivery to the City Marshal, or at the jail. Strver ExcitreMENt.—We learn that there is considerable excitement in Grass Valley, occasioned by the discovery of more silver leads in the vicinity of Rattlesnake creek. A large number of people are engaged in prospecting for new leads, and several have been found which bid fair to become valuable, according to the assays. Derarture.—Mr. 8. Lubeck, who for the past two years has been engaged in the drygoods trade at Nevada, has closed out his busi_ ness, and departs to-morrow for San Francisco , He leaves a large circle of friends to regret his departure from our midst. Tx Martinetti Troupe give their first entertainment at the Nevada Theater this evening. We learn that the box seats have all been engaged, and the company will undoubtedly draw crowded houses as long as they remain here. Piz Prants.—The attention of gardeners and house-keepers is directed to the advertisement of Mr. T. Worthington, who offers for . sale somte of the best varieties of pie plants to . be had in the State. CLosine Ovr.—Mr. L. M. Cohn, dry goods . dealer, Commercial street, has made arrangements to close out his business by the 15th of March next. Tax annual meeting of the Nevada Rifles, for Special Notices. Sarsaparilla=has long been endorsed by the medical faculty as a mild, safe and effective aperient and alferative. To extend its usefulness, all the scientific appliances of modern chemistry have been put in requisition by Mesars, Sanps, to obtain a pure extract of its medicinal properties, Combining therewith vegetable products, they are enabled with confidence to offer to the public a sure and certain remedy for all diseases arising from imparity of the blood or derangement of the biliary functions. —jand4 iH.
