& : + id Aevada 3 Brwosrat. Mcrper at Grass Vaairy.—Mr. James MI. M. Wright was stabbed: and instantly killed, at Grass Valley, last Saturday evening, by a man named Thos. Burke, As-tte particulars juve been related to us, it wasw cold-blooded murder. Wright was standingin Terrill’s sajoon with several others, when Burke came in and rubbed against him. He then turned and rubbed against him asecond titne, and according to some statements, stepped on his toes. Wright, speaking very mildly, snid, “Go slow, go slow,” as much as to tell him to desist. Burke, addressing Wright, said, *+I’ll bet $300 you are & gut;” Wright answered, “If lama gitI can seratch.” Upon this, Burke drew knife with his left hand and plunged it to Wright's heart, leaving the weapon in his body, Wright stood a moment, then gradually settled down upon his hands and knees, when the knife dropped from the wound and he fell dead on the door, He neyer spoke after receiving the wound. As soon as Burke had accomplished the hellish deed he grabbed for his pistol, but before he could draw it, Mat. Rinkle, who was standing by knocked him down with a spittoon, and he was secured. He was committed to jail the next day, having waived an examination, Mr. Wright was about twenty-five years of age, and formerly resided near Ripley, Jackson Co., Virginia. He was engaged iw the quartz busiacss at Grass Valley. Burke was formerly a resident of Pittsburg, Pa.; Ke eame to Grass Valley sometime last week, in company with one Harry Blair, alias Thompsoa, and both are said to be escaped convicts. Burke was sent to the State Prison for the Chieo vobbery, and had four years to serve. He and Blair escaped! sometime since on ascow. Duriag the evening of the murder Blair had been gambliag and lost considerable money, andit is supposed that Burke, aggravated by their losses, came iitto the saloon, with the intention of killing some one, and Wright being the first man he came across was made the victim.
