NEVADA DEMOCRAT. — WEDNESDAY MORNIG,N FEB. 29, 1860, —————— . . Deata er Epwarp Ke.sey.—Mr. Edward . that be has taken rooms at No, 88, Montgomery street, Kelsey, s prominent citizen of Nevada, died yesterday morning under very singular circumstances. He was living with his brother, Richard Kelsey, in a small house near the head of Broad street. About six o’clock he got up and started to the spring for a bucket of water. Not returniag for about five minutes, Richard Kelsey jamped ont of bed and stepped to the spring, to ascertain the cause of hia absence, and found his brother 'ying with his head and face down in the water. He gasped several times after being taken out, and Dr. Overton was immediately sent for, but he was so far gone when the Doetor arrived that all efforts to revive him proved unavailing. It appears that Mr. Kelsey has been subject to fits for some years; and the conclusion is, that he was taken with a spasm while stooping over the spring te dip up the water, and fell in. Coroner Henry held an inqnest on the body, and the jury returned a verdict'in accordance with the above facts. Mr.Kelsey was a native of Lincolnshire, England, and about thirty-six years old. He has resided in the vicinity of Nevada since 1850, and has uccumulated eonsiderable property—being worth, perhaps, not less than a bondred thourand dollars. He was the owner of some six or eight fine brick buildings en Commercial street, and was an enterprising and useful citizen. He has another brother living in Alton, Illinois, and a sister in Minnesota, ‘The funeral takes place from the Methodist -hureh, at 2 o'clock, this afternoon. Freicut Sratistics.—Mesers. Lammon and Rabbits have been ,engaged most of the time «luring the past week in taking the census and eollecting freight statistics of Nevada and Grass Valley. They have not yet completed the work, but from the statistics which they had procured up to Saturday evening, we are satisMed that not less than 10,000 tous of freight is annually brought to each of these towns. The freight bills of the business men of the two places will show an aggregate of nearly 20,000 tons for the year 1859, and a large quantity of freight is brought up of which no account can be obtained. Fall statisties would show that the citizens of Nevada county are paying annually upwards of $1.000,000 for hauling goods from Sacramerto and Marysville; and the . freighting business of this county is but a small item of the business that would be done on the proposed railroad from Folsom to this place. Consriracy.—Andrew Scola and a Chileno known by the name of “Spanish Joe,’’ were arrested last Saturday, charged with having entered into a conspiracy to rob the Nebraska Company. mit the robbery, on Saturday, the 18th iust., to accomplish which, they had determined to murder C. H. Seymour, the superintendent of the claims; but from some cause the attempt was not made at that time, and the officers having obtained a clue to the conspiracy, the partics abore named were taken into custody. They were brought before Justice Smith on Monday, fer examination, but the case was postponed until to-day. Scola was one of the parties implieated in the attempt to reb Mr. Sanford on the night of the 11th inst., but the evidence was net sufficient to hold him on that charge and he was discharged, Suvice Ronaixa.—Three men named A. C. It is stated a plan was laid to com. Allerton, David Jacobs, and Wm. Vorrath were arrested last Friday, ebarged with robbing the sluioe boxes of the Mammoth Fluming Ce., on Little Deer creek. The robbery was perpetrated on Wednesday night, and the sluices are supposed to have eontained about $150, The accused parties were examined before Justice Smith on Saturday. The evidence against them was cireumstantial, but deemed sufficiently sonclusive to warrant holding them to bail jn the eum of $1,500 each. They were committed to jail in default of bonds, Ix Jait.—There are now no less than fifteen prisoners in the county jail, on the following eharges: One for assault with intent to murder; two for highway robbery; three far robbing sluices; two for attempting to rob sluices; two for attempting to rob Sanferd; two for conepiracy to rob; one for burglary; one for petty larceny, and one for assault and battery. Of this number, thirteen are awaiting the action . the Court of Sessious, whieh meets next Monay. Croruina at Avction.—Ike Williamson will pommence again, on to-morrow, March ]st, at 11 o’elock, a. m., to sell at auction the superier ateck of clothing, boots, hats, caps, blankets, ete., in the store of Sol. Koblmas, corner of Broad and Pine streets. Every body is invited to attend the sale. Now is your time to dress up for little money. Private sales at auction prices. Burctary.—Two Chinamen were arrested . jast Saturday, on Rush creek, charged with burglary, in breaking open cabins, and stealing clothing, provisions, and other articles. They were examined before Justiee Smith, and one of them, having on a pair of stolen pantaloons, wassent to jail in default of $1,500 bail, to await the action of the Grand Jury. Coexty Business.—An adjourned meeting of the Board of Supervisors will be held to-day, to transact some unfinished business, They will probably be in session two days. PULU !! PULU!
