~ LOCAL MATTERS, ~—~Grinp Larceny.—A Chinaman named Ah as"y'’ Cue
Shan was committed to jail this moming, by
Justice Smith, in default of $1,000 bail, ona
charge of grand larceny. It appears that goods
to the value of about fifty dollars were stolen
from the store of Mr. Cohn, on the 10th inst.,
and among the articles was fifty yards of red
flanmgl. Yesterday a portion of the flannel
was found inthe possession of a Chinaman,
and it was proven by two Chinese witnesses
that it was purchased of Ah Shan, who was
accordingly arrested. Mr. Cohn identified the
flannel, and Ah Shan being unable to account
for having it in his possession, was taken to
be the thief. Only a small portion of the flannel was found, but as it was taken at the same
time as the other goods, the evidence was considered sufficient to warrant the committal of
the accused for grand larceny.

the description of the one stolen was offered for

not purchased. The person who offered it was
a stranger to Mr. Lachman, and has not since
been seen in town.
