ae cE genes Alewada Democrat. t< WHITHER GOEST THOU! 59 ~ LOCAL MATTERS, ~—~Grinp Larceny.—A Chinaman named Ah as"y'’ Cue Shan was committed to jail this moming, by Justice Smith, in default of $1,000 bail, ona charge of grand larceny. It appears that goods to the value of about fifty dollars were stolen from the store of Mr. Cohn, on the 10th inst., and among the articles was fifty yards of red flanmgl. Yesterday a portion of the flannel was found inthe possession of a Chinaman, and it was proven by two Chinese witnesses that it was purchased of Ah Shan, who was accordingly arrested. Mr. Cohn identified the flannel, and Ah Shan being unable to account for having it in his possession, was taken to be the thief. Only a small portion of the flannel was found, but as it was taken at the same time as the other goods, the evidence was considered sufficient to warrant the committal of the accused for grand larceny. CHEAP JOHN’s = HE ALWAYS HAS AND ALWAYS WILL UNDERSELL ANY HOUSE IN TxtrvinG.—During the absence of Mr. Geo. A. Church, on Tuesday and Wednesday last, some one entered his wagon shop, on Cayote street, and stole a double-barrel shot gun, which had been left in the office. A gun answering the description of the one stolen was offered for sale to Mr. Lachman, on Wednesday, but was not purchased. The person who offered it was a stranger to Mr. Lachman, and has not since been seen in town. NEVADA COUNTY. AND HE BAS THE LARGEST STORE& STOCK IN THE STATE. Heavy Fatui.—A gay horseman was coming down, Broad street this afternoon, and just as he turned the corner of Pine, some wag asked him the price of his horse. He answered “a hundred and fifty dollars,” and had no sooner said it, than his horse slipped on the wet planks, falling on his side, while the rider took the *‘measure of an unmade grave.” He instantly came down a hundred on the price of his horse. WHEN YOU WANT ANY Fert Frozen.—Mr. Mau, brother of A. Mau of the Golden Gate Hotel, had both of his feet frozen, a week or two ago, while on his way from Washoe to Esmeralda. The unfortunate man has been brought to Nevada, and his feet are ina bad condition. Some of his toes have commenced rotting, and will undoubtedly have to be amputated, but hopes are entertained that his feet may be saved. Clothing, Boots, or Notions, THAT’S THE PLACE TO BUY. SLEIGHING.—Persons fond of sleigh-riding can enjoy themselves to the fullest extent, on the ridge between Nevada and Alpha. The snow We Have a License ' commences about three miles above here, and from that point to Alpha the road is well broken, ° the snow dry and packed sufficiently for sleighing purposes. The stage line has substituted sleighs instead of coaches, for most of the distance, and trips are now made regularly. An Auction License !!! Prizes.—The prizes to be distributed by the Nevada Hose Co., at their gift entertainment, are now on exhibition at the paper depot of Blenis, adjoining Mayers & Co.’s boot store, ite secrete Commercial street. Tickets for the entertainment can be had at the same place. The public are invited to call and examine the prizes.
