a NEVADA DEMOCRAT. : MORNT commence railroad survey to Anburn, during his sojourn in Nevada, bas buvted up the township lines as run by the government survegors, of this and otber towns in the county.. He bas shown, us s map which be bas made of this tected.in, ection seven of township. sixteen north, range tine east of ‘the Mt. Diablo meridian. Grass Valley is in sections. twenty-seven: and thirty-four of townsbip sixteen north, range eight cast of the Mt, Diablo. meridian, apd, is, twenty-one miles due north from Auburn. Ne~ vade is twenty-four miles north and two eastof Anburn, and from Grage Valley to Nevada the distance by an air line is. a trife over four miles. As thé township lines bate beeh run in most parts of this county it would be an easy matter for the local surveyors to fix the location anddescribe ranches inaccordance with the government survey. Land could then be described in such a manner that there could be no mistake about the location, and the system is so. simple that the people would soon become fewiliar with the descriptions, APPoRTIONMENT OF THE Scuoot Fuxv.—The Superintendent of Public. Qvintz Cresittxe.—We learn from Mr. Soggs, the superintendent of the American Hill quartz mill, that during the year 1859 the mill has etushed 3127 tone of quartz rock, which paid withia a fraction of $65,000—averaging nearly $21 per ton. The rock crushed was mostly taken from the company's lead, near the mill. The company have lately purchased the Holbrook water mill, on Deer creek, where they intend. to remove the crushing machinery of the American mil], snd thus save the heavy expense of a steam engine. The company have gone down on their ledge to a depth of 180 feet, where they are now taking out rock. The ledge has continued to increase in size as they have gone down—being about a foot in thickness near the surface, and eight feet thick at the depth of 180 feet, Tutevinc Cuixamen.—Four Chinamen were brought down from Red Dog on Monday evening, and lodged in jail. on a charge of petit lareny. They were first arrested for grand Jureeny, but wpon examination before a Justice at Red Dog were nequitied on that charge, when they were immediately taken for petit larceny, and their counsel “procured a change of venue to this place. Yesterday morning Constable Asher arrested four Chinamen on Rock creck, charged with stealing some articles of clothing, and pilfering generally. They were tried before Justice Smith yesterday; two of them convicted and fined thirty dollars each, and in default of payment they have been committed to jail for fifteen days. The other two were aequitted. Water Works.—The Nevada Water Company ate vigorously pushing ahead their work. The . laying down of the pipes will be completed a» far as the Methodist Church by to-morrow or nextday, and we learn that they design putting in three fire plugs. and will test the effieiency of the works on Saturday or Monday néxt. The pipes, as far down as the Methodist Church, are nine inches in diameter, and the reservoir is at a sufficient elevation to raise vhe water to the top of the charch steeple.
