Bates and Moore the stock and good will of the Broad street Book Store, and taken charge of the same. Mr. Moore has also disposed of his in. terest in the drug store to Dr. Bates, who will . continue to carry on the business on his own . account at the old stand. Mr. Church, who . will have charge of the book store, has been . connected with the Democrat office, as one of . the proprietors, for several years past, and having laid down the stick and rule for duties less ] . . which France is. not now ealled upon to proThe following article, which firetappeared in the Paris Patrie, and was afterwatds copied into the Moniteur, is regarded as an intimation of the policy of France towards the United States, aod for that reason bas . created considerable remark in this country : It is stated that negotiations are opened for the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between France and the Court of Turin. If these negotiations should come to a result, the consequences will be a recognition de facto of the . Italian Kingdom, composed of the provinces and States which were placed under the sceptre of Victor Emanuel after those events on nounce any opinion, but which were accomC.M. Petty Larceny.—One John Wilson was arrested yesterday evening, by Marshal Gregory, on a charge of petty larceny, in stealing a bottle of lemon syrup, from a saloon on Broad street. He was brought before Justice Smith this morning for trial, plead guilty, and threw himself on the mercy of the Court on the ground that he was drunk when the theft was committed. The Court fined him $25, or twelve days imprisonment in default of payiment. He was committed to jail. John Cross was arrested yesterday evening, by officer Scott, charged with stealing an axe from Mr. Bailey. His trial is fixed for four o'clock this afternoon. . Court or Sesstons.—The trial of L. P. Huntsman, indicted for assault with intent to raurder, was held yesterday in thé Court of Sessions. The case was given to the jury at three o’clock in the afternoon, and at a late hour in the evening, being unable to agree on a verdict, were discharged, and the case continued until the next term. The burglary case of Thos, Martin and French Pete, was called up this morning, and the parties demanding separate trials, a jury was empanneled to try Martin. The testimony was taken this forenoon, and the case was being argued as our paper went to press. Fine ALARM.—An alarm of fire was raised between eight and nine o'clock, last Thursday evening, caused by the flaring up of a camphene lamp in the Bed Rock Saloon. The streets were instantly filled with people, and the firemen were promptly on hand; but the word being passed round that the alarm was false, the excitement quickly subsided. Reviicious Services.—Rev. I. H. Monegle, recently from the Atlantic States, will preach at the brick church, at eleven o’clock, a. m., and at a quarter before eight, Pp. M., tomorrow. At the Baptist and Methodist churches sevices will commence at eleven, A. M., and eight p. M to-morrow. Baty av Lake City.—The ball at Arnold’s hotel, Lake City, last Thursday evening, was largely attended, nearly all the county candidates, and all that ever expect to be candidates, being present. We are informed by those who attended, that they had a fine time, and every thing passed off in the best style. Our New Postmaster.—Mr. E. F. Bean, our new Postmaster, and who for some weeks has had charge of the office, received his commission by the last steamer. Mr. Bean, we think, wili make an accommodating and popuiar Postmaster, Mr. Mulloy is his assistant. Crrevs.—The Union Circus, Dr. 8. S. Foster proprietor, is announced to perform at Nevada next Wednesday evening. How tue Last Pony News was TELEoxaPned.—The Alta of Tuesday says: At six o'clock last evening the Pony arrived at Sand Spring Station, some fifty miles east of Fort Churchill, with dates to the 8th. By this extension of the wires the Pony news is only seven days in coming. As the wire is extended the time of the Pony will be regularly shortened. We mentioned in the Alta of Saturday, that Mr. John R. Yonts, one of the most experienced operators, had been dispatched to the end of the wire, where he had just arrived when the Pony . Heuness Pass, ONCE A WEEK, came along. He immediately fitted up an im. svromptu office, consisting of an empty barrel, a old box and a frying pan. As all first rate . operators read by sound, it is necessary to have metal or glass to set the sounder upon, so the . operator put his sounder on the upturned bottom of a frying pan, and with the old barrel and . box went to work, telegraphing directly through . to this city. This is the first news sent on the Overland wire, and on the arrival of the next . Pony on Friday, we may look for both the short . summary and our long Fort Kearny dispatches. . It would only show that the Government de facto of the new State was sufliciently established for it to be possible to entertain with it those international relations which the interests of the two countries imperiously require to be established. France, by her new attitude, would not mean to interfere in any way in the internal or external affairs of talian Kingdom, which would remain the sole judge of its conduct, as it is the master of its future destinies. France will act towards Italy just as the great European Powers will one day do in regardto the American question, by recognizing the new Republic of the States . when that Republic shall have constituted a . Government resting on bases which will allow . international relations to be entered into with it which may comport with the general interest. The American question seems to have been alluded to merely for the purpose of insinnating a belief that the seceded States dence.
