Acvada Democrat, LOCAL MATTERS. Tus Brive Leap at Rev Doc.—Messrs. Mallory & Co. have lately completed a mill at Ned Dog, for crushing cement. The mill has six stamps, of four hundred pounds each, and cost only sixteen hundred dollars. They started the mill on Wednesday last, and after thirty hours’ run cleaned up $2,700; and we learn that they have since tuken out about $4,000. The cement which they are working is known asthe Blue Lead, and extends through to Hunt's Hill, butis not as rich in all places as at Red Dog. The pay gravel, or cement, is drifted out, the ground above not containing sufficient gold to pay for sluicing off. Some years ago, Mr. Pier, of this place, sunk $8,000 in working the same claims now being worked by Mallory & Co., and which are paying so largely. Experience has shown that the Blue Lead can only be worked to advantage by means of crushing mills. We learn that the mines about Red Dog are all paying well this spring, the miners are all employed, and doing better than ever before. Bratz Socrety.—At the annual meeting of the Nevada Bible Society, held on Sunday evening, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President—Rev. W. G. Deal. Vice Presidents—Rev. B. Brierly, Rev. H. Cummings, and J. H. Bostwick. Secretary—J. A. Chittenden. Treasurer—Jas. Monroe. Committee—Jas. Bluit, S. W. Grush, J. Harrison, O. G. Auld. J. A. Chittenden was elected an agent to establish depositories of Bibles in various parts of Nevada county. Tue Carico PARty.—We learn that the ladies of the Episcopal Society realized $400 from the calico party given last week, over and above the expenses, and they desire us to express their thanks to the citizens of Nevada and Grass Valley for their liberality in patronage of the institution. The expenses of the party were somewhat more than they had calculated, but the net proceeds fully equalled their expectations. The money, we believe, is to be appropriated towards the erection ofa church building. Drearturr.—Among the passengers who Yeft San Francisco for the East on Saturday lest by the steamer Golden Gate, was Mr. 8. Furth, of the well-known firm of A. Block & Co. He contemplates visiting Europe, and expects to be absent abouta year. Mr. Furth is an old resident of Nevada, where his quiet and gentlemanly habits have endeared him toa large circle of friends, who will heartily join with us in wishing him a pleasant journey and a speedy return.Rain.—We were visited on Sunday evening with a refreshing shower of rain. It commenced raining moderately about nine o'clock, and continued for two or three hours, enough falling to lay the dust in the streets. In consequence of the immense quantity of snow on the mountains, we may expect that every “spell” of warm weather willbe succeeded by rain, and we shall doubtless have showers in every month of this year. Masontc.—A masonic lodge has recently been established at Red Dog, under a dispensation from the Grand Master, called Mt. Carmel Lodge. The following officers have been acleeted: Chas. M. Peck, Master; W. A. Begole, Senior Warden; B. F. Remington, Junior Warden; Edw. Williams, Treasurer; Isaac Gill, Secretary. The fraternity have fitted upa tine hall:and are prepared for work. SaLK-or FunnitcRE.—The household furniture of Mr. James B. Van Hagen will be sold at auction, to-morrow, (Wednesday,) at ll o'clock A.M. The sale will take place at his residence, on Broad street. Those wishing to purchase good furniture, at a bargain, will do well to attend. THEATRICAL.—Mrs. Leighton and company gare another entertainment yesterday evening; and notwithstanding the pieces announced on the bills had been played many times here, the house was crowded. The company are announeed to play at Dutch Flat to-night, to.morrow night at Auburn, and from thence they go to Placerville. Restaurant CHanors.— Charley Irish, formerly of the Fashion Restaurant, has leased the U. S. Restaurant, of Messrs. Grush & Parker, and opened in that establishment today. The Fashion Restaurant will be continued under the charge of Messrs. Monahan & Flynn, whose advertisement will be seen in another column. Distuict Count.—The case of Nathaniel Beek vs. the Middle Yuba Canal and Water Co.—a suit for damages to mining claims was taken up in the District Conrt yesterday morning. A jury was empanneled, and the case is still on trial. Rervprican ConveNnTION.—The Republican Central Committee of this county have called a Convention for Saturday next. to elect delegates to the State Convention to be held at Sacramento on the 17th inst. Rervrywep.—Our friend and fellow citizen, Dr. Levason, dentist, returns this evening from 8 visit to the Bay City, and will be at his place of to-morrow morning, to receive his TT TTT seinen meinen eR caiaaieieetniainbeledaamibahiabaadnliltii rrr Special Notices. M. Wm. Grove Deal, Pastor. San Fraycisco, April 5th, 1862, Mxssrs, Repincton & Co: I take pleasure in informing you that I have been using your excellent Yeast Powders for some time, and unbesitatingly pronounce them unequaled by any similar preparation that I have ever used. Every housekeeper may rely upon it that when used, according to directions, they never fail to produce that most desirable of allarticles of Good, Sweet, and Nutricious Bread, Having once proved how superior they are to all others, . could on no account be without them. Mrs. N, Mitts. apr26-3m, To Correspondents.—atients residing in any part of the State, however distant, who may desire the opinion and advice of Dr. Young, on their re. . spective cases, and who think proper to submit a written statement of such, in preference to holding a personal interview, are respectfully assured that their communications will be held most sacred, Dr. Young takes this opportunity of observing that all letters are only opened and replied to by himself, and the latter as promptly as possible. If the case be fully and candidly described, personal communications will be superceded, as instructions for diet, regimen, . and the general treatment of the case itself, (including the remedies,) will be forwarded without delay, and in such a manner as to convey no idea of the purport of the letter or parcel so transmitted, @— Oflice, 751 Clay street, San Francisco.
