LUCAL MATTERS,
District CovrtT—March 20th.—Winham
ts. his creditors—ordered that petitioner be dis.
charged from his debts and liabilities.
Goldstein et al. vs. Bowley & Hagadorn.—
Plaintiff’s counsel given leave to amend com~
plaint, by adding additional defendants.
Woodworth vs. Knowlton—Venire issued
to. J. B. Gray to summon Jury.
Mulford vs. Hagardon & Bowley—R. L.
Craig appointed attorney for H. L. Bowley.
Thomas vs. Dumoulin et. al.; Thomas vs.
Dumoulin, and Thomas et. al. vs. Gallopin et.
al.—Orders for decree of foreclosive and sale.
Middle Yuba Canal Co. vs. Eureka Lake Co—Motion to dismiss attachment argued and
submitted, and plaintiffs” counsel given sixdays . Cunsultation gratis.
to file brief.
Saul Levy vs. His Creditors.—Sheriff appom. Jaye Nevapa Crry fo r Sacramente, San Francisco
ted assignee.
E. Ransom vs. M. Ransom.—Final decree of
divorce ordered.
PostponeD.—The trial of Thomas Burke,
indicted for the murder of Wright, which was
set for trial yesterday, was postponed for the
term. An affidavit was filed by the prisoner’s
counsel stating that one Blaiy, his principal
witness, was absent, and expressing the belief
that he was kept out ofthe way by parties mterested in tbe prosecution. Blair is the person who is reported to have escaped from the
State Prison with Burke, and the chances are
that he will never be seen in this county again.
The District Attorney, however, eonsented to
have the trial postponed, and it was accordingly put off until the April term.
War Patntinc.—We noticed, yesterday,
at Withington’s paint shop, foot of Broad st.,
a very fine painting, executed by Mr. Auld, an
artist of this place. Itis a representation of
the fight between the frigate St. Lawrence
and the privateer Petrel,in which the latter
was speedily sunk, carrying down many of her
erew. The design was partially taken from
acut in a pictorial, but the artist has greatly
improved upon the original, and given us upom
canvass a vivid representation of a naval battle.
Tus ISREALITISH WAR.—The “waragainst
the Isrealites” having been terminated by the
intervention of the legal authorities, and the
blockade being raised, Mr. Jacob Rosenthal
will leave for the Bay City on Sunday morming
next, for the purpose of replenishing his somewhat meagre stock of dry goods. The step is
rendered necessary, owing to the ravages and
devastations of the late war.
Hasgas Corpus.—aA writ of habeas corpus
was issued to-day, by Judge Belden, in the case
of James Mooney, lately committed to jail, m
default of bonds to keep the peace, for threatening to kill somebody. The case will be investigated at four o’clock this afternoon.
Business CHANGE.—The co-partnership between Messrs. Mayers & Coe, at Nevada and
Grass Valley, as will be seen by their notice,
itas been dissolved. Mr. Coe will settle up the
business of the store in Nevada, and Mr. May.
ers that at Grass Velley.
For SaLe.—Chris. Flaugher offers himself
and bridge for sale—full particulars of which
will be found in his advertisement in another
column. This is undoubtedly the best piece of
roperty in the county—we allude to the
ridge.
Ciry Tax Sate.—On Saturday next, the
City Marshal will proceed to sell all assessed
property in the city upon which the taxes are
due and unpaid. The delinquent list will be
found on the fourth page of this paper.
THe WEATHER, for the past few days has
been delight ful—neither too warm nor too cold.
The sun is rapidly drying up the mud, and unless we should have another storm, the roads
will soon be in fine condition.
May-Day BaLu.—The German citizens of
Nevada are making preparations togivea grand
ball, at Temperance Hall, on the evening of
May Ist.

ANOTHER YANKEE Victory.—During the
night of last Tuesday, or rather about three
o'clock Wednesday morning, an individual at
the Union Hotel, Yreka, who seemed to pride
himself upon the fact of his being a British
subject, indulged in some abusive language
ainst the American flag, the American people, the United States m general, and everything in particular that did not think John Bull
Was not all he pretended tobe. By and by, he
announced the fact that he could whip any
three or fourd—d Yankee sons of —— who
dared dispute him. A gentleman from Vermont invited the champion of the Unicorn to
eommence on him. Grand finale—British subject at full length on the floor, limber as a rag,
with blood flowing profusely from several and
sundry wide but net deep fissures about the
head.—[Yreka Union.
Damace ny FLoon.—The beautiful cottage
residenee of Mr. John McCoy, at Sebastopol, we
are sorry to hear, sustained serious injury a few
days ago, by the breaking away of a large volume of water from a basin on the hill-side above
which descended in a violent torrent, and swept
Imany of his perishable improvements away 1m
its course. A liberal use of means anda cultivated taste, had made these premises highly
attractive. In addition to an immense number
of Paverines with which the garden was studded, it contained also grass mounds, lengthy
arbors, alcoves, graveled walks, besides an ex.
tensive and costly variety of fruit and flowering
trees, shrubbery, ete. So lovely a spot deserved to be more tenderly dealt . with—([San

Te Correspondents.—Patients residing in
any part ef the State, however distant, who may desire the opinion and advice of Dr. Young, on their respective eases, and who think proper to submit a
written statement of such, in preference to holding a
personal interview, ave respectfully assured that their
communieations will be held most sacred, Dr. Young
takes this opportumity of observing that all letters
are only opened and replied to by himself, and the
latter as promptly as possible. If the case be fully
and candidly described, personal communications
