The Senatorial Election,
A question bas been raised in Sacramentoasto whether or not McDougall was
teen nunneries, removing their occupants to
nine others which were left remaining, and a
propriating the lands and houses to the benefit

of the public.
The low rabble of the city, instigated, it is
asserted, by some of the clergy, attempted to
mob and massacre the foreign residents, whose
sympathy with the Liberal party now in power
had given their lownesses offense. They raised
a big crowd and a huge excitement, but a few
harmless discharges of musketry over their
heads put them to flight and restored peace.
Sixty were arrested.
From the returns already received of the
votes in the States for the next President, it appears that Juarez has a majority over either of
his two competitors, Senors Ledro and Ortega,
but not an absolute majority, as is required by
the constitution for a direct electionby the people. This circumstance will throw the choice
of the President on the next Congress.
