Aevala Democrat LOCAL MATTERS, Court or Sesstons.—In the case of James Doolin, tried on Thursday for an assault with a deadly weapon, the jury, late in the evening, brought in a verdict of guilty. He was sentenced yesterday to pay a fine of $300, and in default of payment to be imprisoned 150 days. See Chick and Ah Lune, convicted on Wednesday of grand larceny, in robbing sluices, . were sentenced yesterday to two years impris. onment in the State Prison. . Alvin Adams, indicted for burglary and grand larceny, was tried yesterday and convicted. He was sentenced this afternoon to two years imprisonment in the State Prison. The case of James Lumley, the Kanaka, indicted for assault with intent to murder a Chi. naman, was tried to day. The jury, after consulting a few minutes, brought in a verdict of not guilty, and the defendant was discharged. The Court adjourned for the term. Pottce Irems.—On Thursday, Constable Asher arrested John Hickley, and Daniel Conley at Jones’ Bar, on a charge of assault and battery. ‘They were tried before Justice Kendall, convicted, and fined twenty dollars each. The fines were paid and the parties discharged. The . same day, Policeman Rider arrested two Chinamen, bothnamed Woo Lee, for violating the stove-pipe ordinance. In the districts referred to corn is twelve anda half cents per bushel, and coal is from fifteen to seventeen cents.
