an Tenet ocrat. LOCAL MATTERS. May-Day CrLBBRATIONS.—The children connected with the Methodist Sunday School, aecompanied by their parents and friends marched through town this smorning, on their way to the pic-nic grounds, where the usual May-Day exereises are being held. They were escorted through town by the Nevada Cadets, who eame out im their new uniforms, and the procession made a fine appearance. The children will remain at the pie-nic grounds during the day, and return about four or five o’clock. The exercises at the Glenbrook Race Course, under the auspices of the German Glee Club, consists mostly of vocal and instrumental music, and judging from the appearance of the streets, most of the population of the town are attending one or the other celebration. The Glee Club give a ball at Temperance Hall this crening. Ronperies At Grass VALLEY.—A gentleman who visited Grass Valley yesterday, informs us that a Frenchman, who has been engaged in peddling cakes, ete., was stopped by three or four robbers, on Main street, Tuesday evening, and relieved of $45. Later in the evening, four Chinamen were stopped and searched, it is supposed by the same gang. The Celestials had no money, and as a punishment for being thus unmindful of the wants of highwayman, one of them was knocked down by a blow onthe head with a pistol, and badly injured. District Count—April 30.—Middle Yuba Canal Co. vs. Miners’ Ditch Co. et al.—Demurrer to complaint overruled, and defendants given one week to answer. Eleanor Bragg vs. Erastus Bragg.—Decrce of Divorce ordered. Howe & Lindsey vs. Knowlton.—Cause tried by jury, and verdict found in favor of plaintiffs for $130. May 1st.—The case of D. Felton et al. vs. E. B. Taylor et. al., a suit of mining claims at Sailor Flat, was taken up this morning, a jury empanneled, and the trial is still in progress. Se_tF-FeEEDERS IN QuRTz MILLs.—In the notice of the Nevada Quartz Mining Co’s works, in our last, we neglected ta advert to the fact that they use the very simple and efficient SelfFeeder of C. P. Stanford, which feeds the rock to the batteries just as isis needed. The Superintendant thinks that owing to the fact that the batteries are fed umerringly and evenly, Aevada Dem they crush in the mill from two to three tons . of rock more per day than by the old style of feeding. This is worthy the attention of those running quartz mills. HomestEADs.—Parties desirous of purchasing building lots in the immediate vicinity of . San Francisco, are invited to examine a plot ofthe tract recently laid out by Mr. H.S. Brown, which can be seen at the drug store of Mr. Levy, on Commercial street. The land is . situated about five miles from the heart of the city, on the San Jose Railroad, and is welladapted for residences and garden purposes. Tue Weatuer IN APRIL.—Thermemetrical observations in this place, noted three times a day, show the following mean and range during the month of April: Th eM Se xm, 10 Pp. M. Nean....45.40 58.00 46.83 Highest,,..60.00 73.00 63.00 Lowest ... 35.00 39.00 36.00 Hosritat Patizents.—Ten patients were admitted into the County Hospital during the month of April last. “GoInc IT gStrRoNG.”—The Marquis de Boissy, the latest sensation speaker in the French Chambers, lately complained that the money spent in the Italian war would have enabled the Emperor to take London, and was nothing abashed when the President told him . that the Moniteur would record the unanimous laughter provoked by his eccentric sallies. He afterwards accused the English Government of practising torture in India. He has also insinuated that Frince Napoleon is a pretender to the throne and intends to subvert his little cousin. VENEZUELA is one of the countries where cotton grows wild, and an English company has been formed to promote its culture there. An estate of 236,400 acres, part of the property ofthe Liberator Bolivar, has been purchased at a cost of $100,000, and the enterprise will . be vigorusly pushed. Before the revolution, . some two or three million pounds of cotton Were annually exported from Porto Cabello, being the product of that neighborhood, and of an average quality, fully equal to that grown ij the Southern States. Gov. Stanrorn’s Lerrer.—The Sacramento Union and Bee don’t like Gov. Stanford’s letter at all. Neither does the Marysville ExNes and the Secession press generally.— Nevada Transcript. The Marysville Express, which stands in the front rank of the secession press does like it, 4nd so well too, that it keeps it as standing Matter in its columns. and its kind as well as Republican ultras exactly, wherefore do we find the Transcript ; ——— ~~ agreeing with the Express,—[Sac. Bee. Ix Verpure.—The foothills present a most . To Friends of Nevada County: There being an impression among, the “‘people”’ that during the floods at Sacramento recently, I had been ‘‘drowned,”’ or closed my Forwarding department of trade, causes me totell you that my Forwarding House has not been closed three days during the floods, and was receiving and forwarding goods every day, although the water in the store was three feet deep, Jam yet engaged in the business, and will be so long as my friends in Nevada county entrust their goods tomy care. 1 can send goods from Sacramento city on teams, or on the cars to Linculn, (I have an agency at Lincoln.) Have goods marked care of Wurtr, . Sacramento City, and if you desire them on the cars by Lincoln, have the goods marked ‘care of Warr, Lincoln,’’ and they will be properly attended to at either point. Sacramento, however, would be the best forwarding point. O. H. P. Wurrr. a Sax Francisco, April 5th, 1862, Messrs. Repineton & Co: I take pleasure in informing you that I have been using your excellent Yeast Powders for some time, aud unbesitatingly pronounce them unequaled by any similar preparation that I have ever used. Every housekeeper may rely upon it that when used, according to directions, they never fail to produce that most desirable of allarticles of Good, Sweet, and Nutricious Bread, Having once proved how su perior they are to all others, I could on no account be without them, Mas. N. Mis. apr26-3m. To Correspondents.—Patients residing in any part of the State, however distant, ‘Who may desire the opinion and advice of Dr. Young, on their respective cases, and who think proper to submit a . written statement of such, in preference to holding a personal interview, are respectfully assured that their communications will be held most sacred. Dr. Young takes this opportunity of observing that all letters are only opened and replied to by himself, and the latter as promptly as possible. If the case be fully and candidly de<cribed, personal communications will be superceded, as instructions for diet, regimen, and the general treatment of the case itself, (including the remedies,) will be forwarded without delay, and in such a manner as to convey no idea of the purport of the letter or parcel so transmitted. eg Oflice, 751 Clay street, San Francisco, Consultation gratis, J.
