LOCAL MATTERS, _
County CENTRAL CoMMITTRE.—We re
ceived a note yesterday evening’ from a friend
in Grass Vallcy, suggesting the propriety of
culling a meeting of the Democratic County
Committee, for the purpose of consultation and
exchange of views in relation to future action.
In the present posture of political affairs we
think it would be a good plan for the committee
to hold a meeting, and would suggest to the
members to write to Mr. Davenport, the Chair~
man, and give him their views on the subject.
The following gentlemen compose the Committee:
Nevada.—T. T. Davenport, Chairman, T. H.
Rolfe, A. F. Mackay.
Grass Valley.—J. K. Byrne, A. B. Dibble, E.
W. Roberts.

Stockton—During the year ending May

Special Notices.
To Friends of Nevada County: There
being an impression among the ‘‘people”’ that during
the floods at Sacramento recently, I had been ‘‘drowned,’? or closed my Forwarding department of trade,
causes me totell you that my Forwarding House has
not been closed three days during the floods, and
was receiving and forwarding goods every day, although the water in the store was three feet deep.
lam yet engaged in the business, and will be so long
as my friends in Nevada county entrust their goods
to my care, I can send goods from Sacramento city
on teams, or ou the cars to Linculn, (I have an agency at Lincoln ) Have goods marked care of Wurrr,
Sacramento City, and if you desire them on the cars }
by Lincoln, have the goods marked “care of Wurrg,
Lincoln,” and they will be properly attended to at
either point. Sacramento, however, would be the
best forwarding point. 0. WH, P. Warrs.
San Francisco, April 5th, 1862,
Masses. Repincton & Co:
I take pleasure in informing you that I have been
using your excellent Yeast Powders for some time,
and unhesitatingly pronounce them unequaled by
any similar preparation that I have ever used, Every .
housekeeper may rely upon it that when used, according to directions, they never fail to produce that
most desirable of allarticles of Good, Sweet, and Nuand started to deliver him into the custody of . tricious Bread, Having once proved how superior
an officer; but while coming down the sidewalk in front of the Court House, the Celestial
broke andrun. Rider shot at him twice, with
a pistol. with the intention of wounding him
in the legs, but the shots only tended to increase the fellow’s speed, and he succeeded in
etting away. Mr. Rider took the chickens to
his house, where the owner can get them.
Meas.rs.—This contagion is prevailing to
a great extent at the present time in Nevada.
From what we can learn, we should judge that
nearly half the small children in town have
been afflicted with the disease within the past
few weeks, but it is generally of a mild type, no
deaths having occurred that we have yet heard
ef. The collection together of so many children on May Day, probably had a tendency to
spread the contagion.
TEMPERANCE.—Father Waugh, of Petaluma, who is devoting his time to the cause of
temperance among the rising generation, called at our office this morning, and we are pleased to learn that his work is progressing. He
was here some three weeks ago, at the meeting
of the Grand Lodge, and since that time has
organized no less than eight societies in Nevada and Placer counties. His work is with the
young exclusively.
Bayonet Wovunp.—The other evening
while some of the Nevada Cadets were practicing the sword exercise with sabre-bayonets, at
their armory, Thos Roberts, one of their number accidentally received a pretty severe bayonet wound in the left breast. A little further,
and the point of the weapon would have entered his heart.
Case or BurKE.—The time for appeal in
the case of Burke has expired, but we understand the appeal papers have all been made
out, and we presume the Supreme Court will
order the execution stayed, until a hearing can
be had, should application be made. Unless a
supersedeas is issued, he will be executed next
Friday. The execution wil! not be public.
For Carinoo.—Mr. J. R. Gwin, who has
been in the employ of Dr. Bates for nearly a
year past, left here on Thursday evening, wit
the intention of trying his luck in the northern
mines. Mr. Ed. Wheaton left yesterday evening for the same destination.
Postronnp.— Mons. Chauval, who had pure
posed giving a party at the Hook & Ladder
Co’s House, on the 22d inst., has concluded to
postpone it until the 29th. The room now being refitted, and will not be in proper condition
for the party by the 22d.
For S8sLe.—By the notice of Mons. Liebert,
in another column, it will be seen that he offers for sale his daguerrean gallery, on Broad
street. The establishment has a good run of
custom, and an excellent opportunity is presented to a peison desirous of engaging in the
business,
No Service.—In consequence of the illness
of Rev. Mr. Cummings, who has gone below
for his health, there will no service at the brick
church to-morrow. The Sunday School will
Meet at half past one o’clock in the afternoon as
they are to all others, I could on no account be without them, Mrs, N. MiLLs,
apr26-3in,
To Correspondents.—latients residing in
any part of the State, however distant, who may desire the opinion and advice of Dr. Young, on their respective cases, and who think proper to submit a
written statement of such, in preference to holding a
personal interview, are respectfully assured that their
communications will be held most sacred, Dr. Young
takes this opportunity of observing that all letters
are only opened and replied to by himself, and the
latter as promptly as possible. If the case be fully
and candidly described, personal communications
will be superceded, as instructions for diet, regimen,
and the general treatment of the case itself, (including the remedies,) will be forwarded without delay,
and in such a manner as to convey no idea of the
purport of the letter or parcel so transmitted,
