We must confess it would be a terrible outrage to defeat a man for a nomination who has held office constantly for twenty-five years! The Governor, however, is mistaken about the action of the politicians towards him. Instead of being opposed to him they all took the field in his favor, and he may thank the Federal and State officers of California for his nomination.
