Al vady Democrat. LOCAL MATTERS, DEPARTURE.—Mr. L. C. Wickes and wife left here on Tuesday morning, for San Francis. co, with the intention of taking passage for . New York by the steamer of the 21st. During . a residence of some six years in Nevada Mr. Wickes has sustained the reputation of an honorable and energetic business man, and his departure is regretted by a host of acquaintances and friends. It is his intention to remain permanently at the East, but like many others who have left with a similar purpose, he will probably return to California in the course of a year or two. Tue Martinetti Trovrr will give an entertainment at Nevada this evening. The performance comes off under an immense canvas pavilion, which has been put up on the vacant lot in rear of the National Exchange. Attached to the company are no less than twenty efficient performers, with an excellent band, and all the necessary scenery, stage-fixtures, and machinery, which adds so greatly to the interest of the entertainment. The company performed to an immense audience at Grass Valley, last evening, and we expect the pavilion will be crowded to-night. THEATRICAL.—Mrs, Julia Dean Hayne has accepted a complimentary benefit tendered by . the citizens, which will come off at the Theater . next Monday evening. The pieces selected for . the occasion are “Evadne, or the Hall of Statues,” and “Faint Heart Never Won a Fair Lady.” Mrs. Hayne will personate the leading female character in each piece, and will also recite Drake’s Address to the American Flag. We do not doubt but that our citizens will generally attend. Fire ALARMS.—An alarm of fire was raised about one o’clock yesterday afternoon, proceeding from Blassauf’s Brewery on Spring street, and another this morning, caused by the burning out of a chimney on Broad street. The fire companies were promptly on hand but their . services were not needed. The wind has been . blowing pretty hard for a day or two past, and . a fire once under headway in any of the wooden buildings would be ditticult to subdue. Tue WeaTHER.—For a day or two past, a chilly disagreeable wind has prevailad, the weather being unusually cool forthe season, . and nearly as disagreeable as summer weather . at the Bay. . PREACHING —The Rev. Mr. Diercking will preach in German, at the Court House, at three o’clock to-morrow afternoon, and at the brick church at eight o’clock in the evening. Cee an Rea Esrare in San Francisco-—-Sixty} two lots were lately sold at auction in Sau . Franciscv, located in different parts of the city. The Herald gives the prices attained, by which those acquainted with the localities can forma very fair idea of the present value of real estate iu that city, Lots on the south side of Howard street, . near Fifth, 25x80 feet, averaged $1060. Lots on the north side of Tehama street, near Fifth, 25x75 feet, averaged $560. Lots on the south side of Tehama strret, 25x80 feet, near Fifth, $530. Lots onthe north side of Clementina street, near Fifth, 25x75 feet, averaged $325. Lots on the north side of Folsom street, near Fifth, 25h85 feet, averaged $700. Lot on the south side of Jackson street, near Kearny, 34 feet 4 1-2 inches by 68 feet 9 inches, brought $4,300, Lot on the southwest corner of Folsom and Third streets, 30x50 feet, with the store thereon, brought $7,900. Lot on the northwest corner of Davis and Sacramento streets, 40x55 feet, with the buildings thereon, sold for 8,000. ContriBout:ons.—The New York Herald . of recent date gives a list of the money . contributed towards the support of the Government in different Northern States,! The Brick Store, in Williams’ Block, which amountsin the aggregate to over eleven million of dollars. This does not! include tbe large contributions of clothing and other nesessaries, for the volunteer . companies, of which uo estimate can be . made. Sioce the list was published, -~ Legislature of Connecticut has appropriated two millions, Vermont one million, and Illinois, we believe, has appropriated three . millions. These contributions will be more . than sufficient to keep up the volunteer . force until the meeting of Congress. PERC) de nh Surposep Murper.—A well-known mer-. chant of San Francisco, Mr. William Meek, . partner in the house of Dupuy, Foulke & Co., arrived at Benicia, from Washoe last Monday, crossed over to Martinez and started on horseback for the residence of his brother-in-law, . who resides about six miles from Martinez, on . the San Felipe ranch. He got lost in a canon and applied at several places for direction, but has not been heard from since Tuesday mor-. ning about two o’clock. Fears that he has been . murdered are entertained. .
