sinner Aevad Town TrvustEees.—The Board met on Tuesday evening, to consider plans for a bridge at the foot of Pine street. Mr. Churchill present. ed a plan, similar to the railroad bridges at the . East, which received much favor and will prob. ably be adopted. It is believed that a substantial and durable bridge of the kind can be constructed at a cost not to exceed six thousand . dollars. The drawings and specifications will . be made out by Monday evening next, at which time the Board meets to determine defi. nitely ona plan. When the plan is settled on, the Board will advertise for proposals,. and if . the lowest responsible bid is within the means at their disposal the contract will be let. Reav Estats.—Mr. Simpkins and his partner, who purpose laying gas pipes in Nevada, have been endeavoring for a few days past to purchase a lot whereon to erect their works. But it appears that lots which a few weeks ago were considered hardly worth paying taxes on, have taken a sudden rise, and are now held at almost fabulous prices. Some men refuse to fix a price on their property, and others have been offered more for vacant lots than they are likely to be offered again. Mr. Simpkins will give up the undertaking unless he can purchase a lot at-a reasonable rate. ; . TRESPASSING.—Mr. Rogers caught a couple of Chinamen, yesterday, trespassing in his dig. gings on American Hill. He arrested the celestials and sent them to town, with the intention of putting them througha course of legal sprouts. They were given in charge of Police. man Knerr, who detained them for an hour or two, but no one appearing against them, he did not consider that he had any legal authority to hold them prisoners, and they were discharged . from custody. Lirerary.—Mr. Welch, of the Pioneer Book Store, and Messrs. C. M. Bates & Co., of Broad Street Book Store, received their usual supply of magazines, newspapers and pictorials by the last steamer. The illustrated papers are of more than usual interest. Leslie’s Pictorial has afull page view ofthe bombardment of Sumter, and Harper’s Weekly has several spirited engravings of scenes of present interest. Harper’s M ine and the Atlantic Monthly, are both excellent numbers. Race.—A race came off yesterday afternoon, . at Pleasant Valley, between two horses, owned by Thos. Stewart and John Robinson; distance, half a mile—one horse being staked against the other. Stewart’s horse won the race by forty feet. Atthe conclusion of the race, the rider decorated the winning animal with American flags and rode off amid the huzzas of the crowd. PersonaL.—Mr. E. ¥. Spence, of the Assembly, returned home on Tuesday evening. . Assemblymen Miller and Eastman returned by way of Marysville, and did not pass through this place. Senator Chase went to San Fran. cisco after the adjournment, and will be up . about the first of next week. ANOTHER FLAG-STAFF.—Messrs. Funston . . Grape by myself, in this city. Special Notices. SENATOR JoHNSON AND THE Mon.—lt has been stated that while the crowd at Lynchburg, Va., was groaning at Andy Johnson, and offering him various indignities, one man pulled . his nose. A Louisville gentleman who was . there at the time says that Andy’s nose was not . pulled. A fellow attempted it, but Andy drew a pistol and would have shot him on the in-. stant, if the men present had not interposed. . Our informant was on the same train with . Andy for a considerable distance this side of Lynchburg, and he says that the sturdy old . gentleman, although insulted by the populace . at every point, showed a nerve that } apoleon or Cesar might have admired. BEERS WOULD CALL PARTIC. ular attention to his improved AMALGAMATORS, For Gold or Silver Ores, which are claimed to possess the following advantages over all others now io ure, viz.: Ist. They are equally adapted to the amalgamaRanging from $7,50 per wress upwards, . tion of Ores, either Wet or Dry crushed, 2d. pony Self-feeding and Self-discharging, they require but little attention; one man being sufficient to attend thirty or more. 8d. During the process of amalgamation they reduce the ore to an almost impalpable powder, in close contact with a large surface of mereury, but do not grind the mereury. 4th. Itis claimed tor them, and demonstrated, that they will save from 26 to 100 per cent. more gold than any other amalgamator now in use. The Amalgamating Pans are put in sets of three, discharging into each other ; three ot which setts are capable of thoroughly amalgamating at lewstten tons of gold ore per day, and, with a slight addition; are equally adapted to the amalgamation of Silver Ores by any ot the old or new processes. The Pans are about four feet in diameter, and supplied with a false, pormeaies, or grate bottom, upon which the grinding is done, which allowa the FRENCH PRINTS, BEAUTIFUL CHINA PATTERNS, . 80!4, 08 soomas united with the mereury, to rettle beneath the grate, and, remain as safe as if under lock and key, In cleaning up the pans and separating the amalgam but one tenth of the usual labor is requived, The parts most exposed to wear are made of hard iron, and easily replaced, at trifling cost. All orders for these Amalgamators can be sent to PETER DONAHUE, on Frat street, San Mraneiseo, at whose Foundry they can be seen in operation. For further particulars, inquire of the Patentee. J.
