Other Locational Data: The subject property is located at the far west end of Linden Avenue on a very large parcel. *P3a. Description: The property consists of a two-story, wood-frame, Carpenter Gothic Revival residence. Character defining features of the residence include a cruciform shaped steep gable roof, horizontal clapboard exterior siding, a second-story balcony with turned wood balustrades and a wood French door flanked by wood shutters, supported by two likely replaced turned wood columns and inside the porch a Gothic style wood period entry door flanked by side lights and a transom window. The rear fo the house has a cross-gable addition, and secondary gabled cottage has been built to the right of the main house. Windows on the house appears to be 6 over 6 light sash with wood shutters. The house, which sits on a large 2 plus acre parcel is landscaped with sprawling lawns, a pond, large trees, shrubs, and planting beds. The home was built in 1864 by Benjamin Taylor who was a member of the party of five men who settled in Grass Valley in 1849, after crossing the plains of Missouri, Mr. Taylor reportedly purchased the property in 1864 and built the home for his wife, Ester Huling. He operated the Taylor Ranch raising championship horses and dairy cattle. Taylor also built a Victorian home next door at 636 Linden Avenue (Heritage Hame No. 16). Mary Ann Barker White (great-qranddaughter of Ben and Ester Taylor) began restoration of the *P3b.
