Henry Thomas owned the Golden Gate Hotel on Lot 1, Block 27, which was destroyed by fire in 1862. In the 1880s and 1890s
the brick building was occupied by the Railroad Hotel. There was a barbershop located at 139 Mill Street in the Railroad Hotel.
The brick building at 139 and 141 Mill Street was known since the 1890s as the Thomas Building, after Henry Thomas, until the
building was purchased in the 1930s by Arletta Douglas, longtime proprietor of the Bon Allure clothing store (City of Grass
Valley Historical Files).
