Other Locational Data: The subject property is located on the south side of Walsh Street. *P3a. Description: The property consists of a single-story, wood-frame, Late Victorian vernacular residence. Character defining features of the residence include a moderately steep hip roof with a brick chimney penetrating the peak of the roof, wood clapboard exterior siding, a full front porch (likely rebuilt) with turned Victorian columns and simple square balustrades and railing, two tall French divided light doors with wood shutters to the right of Late Victorian lighted and paneled front door with 4 light side lights, 6 light top light, 1 over 1 light windows along the side of the house, a vertical board and lattice foundation skint, and a simple side gable (right side) addition with clapboard siding and wood-sash windows. The front yard is landscaped with roses, a lawn, concrete walkway, and partial picket fence. The home was reportedly built in the early 1870s and owned by Minnie E. McDonald. Mr. McDonald died in 1875 and in 1879 Minnie married John Willard Relley who had been a carpenter in Grass Valley since the 1860s. Mill owned the home in the mid-1890s and in 1923 Charles Benjamin acquired the home and it remained in the Parr family until the 1970s (Heritage Homes of Grass Valley 2008: 5). *P3b.
