MvurpeR AND Ronpery.—On Tuesday evening last, a Chinaman named Ah Faut, who had been to Missouri Bar to sell vegetables to his countrymen, while returning on horseback, was met about dark by five highwaymen, a short distance above the toll-house on the Washington road. He refused to stop when . ordered to do so, and one of the party who had a gun shot him, the bullet taking effect in his . right side and coming out at the back. He fell from his horse, and the robbers took from him some twenty or thirty dollars, all he had. He managed to make his way to the toll-house, and from thence was brought into town ina wagon. Dr, Wickes was called to attend him, but he died about three o’clock the next morn. ing from the effects of the wound. He stated . that two of the robbers were armed with guns, . and the other three with pistols. Coroner Henry held an inquest on the body yesterday morning, and the above facts were elicited. By a notice in another column, it will be seen that the Ling Yung Company have offered a reward of for the arrest and conviction of the robbers. Supervisors.—The Board of Supervisors adjourned this forenoon, having been in session . three days. Mr. A. Bickford was appointed Road Overseer for the Bloomfield District, in place of Rochford, declined to qualify. The sum of $5,000, surplus remaining in the specia fund, was ordered to be transferred to the general fund. The Supervisor of the Nevada district was authorized to contract for putting a new roof on the Court House, and to make other necessary repairs in the building and jail. The appropriations on the several funds were as follows: General Fund, ..+.+++++4++++$2,650 40 Indigent Sick Fund,....+-++«2,000 80 Special Fund, «0000 cccccecceccel O16 07 Road Fund, cocccccccccccecces se cO0o 06 Total, co ccecescecce cccecece$l 000 33 Tuk Lost Founp.—A fair, but frail damsel left her abode last evening at dusk, and not returning at 10 o’clock, it was thought that she had gone off and done something rash. It was noised around and Pete Mushaway and a numver of our citizens were soon on the scout. They dragged Deer creek and seined Bovyer’s ditch, and were about to make a descent into the shaft that Dick Woods, once upon a time, fell into and perished, when two young and daring adventurers, one upon a grey and the other ona pinto, announced that they had found the lost one in Grass Valley, where she had gone on foot, forexercise. Thus all chance for a local, vanished before our eyes. Dr. McNavuGuton.—The dental profession came very near being honored in the election of a City Marshal from their ranks Monday. Although the Doctor had announced himself as a candidate at a very late hour, the electioneering in his behalf was very lively, and at the elosing of the polls the Doctor had secured one . very handsome vote. The vote, however, of six hundred and seventy -eight, which was scattered between Gregory and Rider, somewhat impaired his chances, and unless Eureka and . Red Dog exert themselves, the Doctor will have to resume his dental avocation. . THRATRICAL.—-The Theater was filled on . Tuesday evening by a fashionable and _ intelligent audience, to witness the play of the “Hunchback,” Mrs. Hayne as Julia. Mrs. H. . never appeared before a Nevada audience to . better advantage, and she was fairly sustained . by the stock company. The company played . at Grass Valley last evening, and give another . entertainment in Nevada to-night, the pieces . selected being the “Stranger” and the “Rough . Diamond,” in both of which Mrs. Hayne will . appear. Ronpeny.—Mr. George Crawford, who re. sides on Piety Hill, was stopped about half, past nine o’clock on Tuesday evening, by a) couple of foot-pads. He had taken the precaution to put his money and watch in a safe before starting home, and the robbers finding he had nothing on his person of valuc to them took from him a bunch of keys and a pocket knife, and threw them in a flume. Fracs Raisep.—A flag-staff was raised this . forenoon on Pennsylvania Fire Company's . house, and at eleven o'clock the American flag, . presented to the company by Mr. T. E. Beans, was run up, where it now proudly and graceful. ly floats to the breeze. This afternoon the Nevada Rifle Company also raised the Stars and Stripes over their armory, on Main street. . “Long may they wave.” County Scrrp.—By a notice in our adver. tising columns, it will be seen that the County . Treasurer is paying scrip drawn on the general . fund up to September Ist, 1858. Orders reg-. istered previous to that date will cease to draw interest from the present time. . Lecture To-nicut.—The lecture by the} Rev. E. Thomas on “Character,” will be de-. livered at the Methodist church this evening. Mr. Thomas was announced to lecture last Thursday evening, but other engagements prevented his coming at that time. DiscHanGEn.—John Gilmore was examined before Justice Smith, yesterday, for the murder of Thos. Collins, and discharged on the ground yhat the killing was in self-defense. . dentist, was taken suddenly with the toothache, in a saloon on Pine street, anda bystander . was asked to pullit. He hitched to the tooth with a rusty turnkey, and made a “pass,” but . it wasno go. He had nerve but not the strength. . The “Yeoman” was then called to assist, and . after one or two trials they brought out as sound . a tooth as ever grew in a man’s jaw. After examining the tooth closely, and finding nothing . to cause the aching, the Doctor coolly remarked . that “a sound tooth was frequently internally . diseased.” STRAWBERRIES.—We are under a thousand . obligations to Mr. Josiah Rogers, for a bucket . full of nice large strawberries, which were raised in his garden on American Hill. EastTeRN Parers.—Messrs. C. M. Bates & . Co., booksellers, corner of Broad and Pine . streets, have our thanks for late New York pa. pers received by the steamer Sonora. Tus mail for the steamer Sonora, which sails . on the Ilth, closes atthe Nevada office this . evening. . “CONTRAPTION.”—The Washington Star, . . speaking of the permanent constitution of the . new confederacy, says that it is the cutest Yan. kee invention conceivable, a sort of self-opera. ting, self-controling, self-protecting and self. maintaining contraption, designed forever to . . prevent within the seceded States any such . disagreeable contingency of public affairs as a real popular election, by which the government . may possibly get out of their own individual . 1. hands into those of any other men or party. . Ir has been found that messengers receiving . their $1200 a year in the employment of the . United States Senate, are traveling in Europe, . placing substitutes at the disposal of the Senate . door-keeper, said substitutes receiving about one-third of the salary allowed the principal. Another employee is studying at some college for one of the professions, keeping a substitute in the Senate at one-fourth his salary. Special Notices. . . Sand’s Sarsaparilla.—No remedial agent was . ever introduced that has proved so uniformly suc. cessful as this for purifying the blood, and for the . cure of scrofula, rheumatism, stubborn ulcers, salt rheum, fever sores, erysipelas, pimples, boils, mer. curial diseases, cutaneous eruptions, liver complaint, . bronchitis, consumption, female complaints, loss of appetite, general debillty. It will speedily remove . the worst symptoms of these distressing complaints, . and in a briet period complete a radical cure. DRS. CHAPMAN& HATCH, Surgical and Mechanical Dentists.
