) G . Aevada Democrat. ~~~ LOCAL MATTERS, PAN-TEC-NA-THEC-A.—There was a crowds ed house at the Theater on Thursday evening, and considering the storm, a good attendanee last night. The paintings are so much superiorto any of the kind ever pefore exhibited in this place that those who see them once cah seldom resist the temptatation to attend a second time. Among the prizes to be distributed this evening to such of the spectators as . chance to hold the lucky numbers, are a lady’s hunting case gold watch; a gold clasp Bible, valued at $25; a gold bracelet, $15, and twenty or thirty other prizes, consisting of books, articles of jewelry, etc. Ix Luck.—In the distribution of prizes at the Panorama, on Thursday evening, it was our fortune to hold the number that drew the large family Bible. On Wednesday evening . the Bible was drawn by Mr. T. G. Battaile, and yesterday evening it fell to Mr. A. R. Jen. kins. There seems to be a remarkable appropriateness in the chance which thus judiciously circulates the good book among those who can most profit by its divine teachings. Mr. Morrison remarked when he handed the book . to the last named individual—he ‘“‘loooked as though he needed it more than any one in . town.” “That lets ws out.” . CouRT OF Sess1ons.—Yesterday, in the} case of Ah Sing, two of the members of the . Court being of the opinion that there was a/ separation of the jury while consulting on their verdict, the motion for a new trial was . granted. The District Attorney gave notice of . an appeal on the part of the prosecution, to the Supreme Court. Ah Ki, convicted of . grand larceny, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in the State Prison. The case of G. R. Lancaster, charged with a violation of the Sunday law, is on trial to-day. TURKEY SHOOTING.—A shooting match came off on Thanksgiving Day, at which a number of our crack marksmen distinguished themselves by bagging fifty-five turkeys. Mr. Wm. L. Tisdale shot thirteen, Mr. Z. P. Davis eight, and Mr. Varney five. They were put up at a distances of seventy rods, at two bits a shot; and notwithstanding the large number killed, enough shots were firedto make it a paying thing. Tue Prize.—Mr. Tisdale took the prize at the shooting match of Thursday. This is owing in part, doubtless, to his having the best gun that was on the ground. His rifle was made to order by Mr. Varney, and we would say to that gentleman, if he is desirous of keeping up his reputation of being the best shot in the eounty, he must be more particular about the quality of the guns he manufactures to order. Suerirr’s Sates.—The Grass Valley, National complains of the Sheriff for refusing to allow the advertisements of sales of property in that township to be published in the local paper. Considering the very ‘‘liberal” course of the Sheriff towards the Nevada Journal, complaints from the Grass Valley paper come with a bad grace. Goop Timz.—A letter ras received in this city yesterday, which had been 27 days on its way from Nicolaus, Sutter county, including Il days from Grass Valley where it was remailed. Itis supposed to have come by the angle-worm route from the latter place. TurkEy.—Mr F. H. Fisher sent us a very fine turkey on Thursday last. But for the thoughtfulness of Mr. Fisher our Thanksgiving dinner would doubtless have consisted principally of tough beef steak and potatoes. New Goops.—A. P. Church & Co. are now receiving at Broad Street Book Storc, an exten. sive assortment of new books, stationary, pocket diaries and almanacs for 1862, and other . goods in their line. Ratn.—It has been raining pretty steadily, in this section, since a lijtle after dark last . hight. The weather has been quite cool to-day, . indicating aconsiderable fall of snow on the mountains above. PERSONAL.—Dr. W. G. Alban, formerly and for many years a resident of Nevada, has been in town for the past few days. He is now en. ged in the practice of medicine at Virginia ity. * PHOTOGRAPHS.—We are indebted to Mr. Welch, of the Pioneer Book Store, Commercial . te for a package of photographic likenesses . of some of the most prominent Federal and . tebel officers, . CuANcr For a SHave.—The barber shop . and bath-house of Theodore Lampe & Bro.,. _ Will hereafter be kept open on Sunday mornings Until twelve clock, Mg j . ‘. . Hosritan Patrents.—Ten paticnts have been admitted into the County Hospital during © past month of November. Live ov Bacon.—Mr. Murray, the London Publisher, bas in the pres, among other Dovelties for the coming season, “The Story *f Lord Bacou’s Life,” in which all the. Well-kaown materiale for an estimate of the . Great Philosopher will be brought together . and an answer will be made—by way of ®Arrative—to the misre Cities of bis . presentations of the aie: ae Special Notices. Our work has been thoroughly tested at different mining camps in this county, and in evidence of the general satisfaction it has given, we call the attention of those in want of Hose to the following CERTIFICATES: READ THE FOLLOWING TESTIMONIALS FROM WELL KNOWN MinrsG CompPantes in THs County. Grass VALLEY, Aug. 3, 1861. Messrs. Terry & InvinG:—Gents: and . find it works better than any hose I have ever before used, I have one hundred and ninety-six feet pressure, which only the strongest and best made hose is able to stand, The advantage of Machine Made Hore is that the seams @re more regular than can be made by hand, thereby giving an equal strain on all the threads. It is perfeotly smoeth, and consequently will last longer than that manufactwied by hand, R. THomas, GREENHORN, Aug. 25, 1861. Trerv & Invesc:—Sirs: I was iaducedito parchase some of your Machine Sewed Hose in consequence of it being ehewpes than other hose, aud after having used it for eight months, Iam fully satisfied that it is much more durable than that made by hand. This is very easily accounted for from the fact that the . seams being perfectly straight and smooth there is . less friction. Lshall certainly recommend my-triends to purchase that in preference to any other. James SOUTHALL, QuakeR Hin, Aug. 27, 1861. Messrs. Terry & InviNG:—Gentlemen: In regard to the durabitity of your Machine Sewed Hose, Ihave no hesitation in oie that I prefer it to that manufactured by hand. I have been using "wed hose for the past year, andin every particular it has given entire satisfaction. Jacora & Co. NeVada City, Sept. 10, 1861. ESH EGGS FOR SALE: by J. M.
