LOCAL MATTERS, Tue Lats Homicipe at Nort BioomFreLp.—A correspondent writing from North . Bloomfield, furnishes us a full account of the shooting of Le Blanc, while attenipting to rob the sluices of Haskell & Co., last Thursday evening. Justice Marriott held an inquest on the body of the “deceased, and from the testimony adduced, it appears that the company had suspected their sluices were being tampered with, and Mr. S. T. Nipher, one of the shareholders, undertook to watch them at night. About 12 o’clock, on the night of the 30th ult., while Nipher was on watch, two men came up through’ the tunnel to near where he was standing, conversed some time and left, evidently without seeing him. From the tenor of their conversation, Nipher was lead to infer that they would not attempt anything until the next night, About the same hour, on the following night Nipher, being again on watch, heard voi. ces at the top of the shaft connecting with the tunnel, and some one struck a light and descended; on reaching the bottom, and when standing only a few feet from the watchman, his aceomplice called down to him: ‘Look around well and sec if the watchman is there; . ’ ifhe is, he must be asleep. If you sce him shoot the son of ab—h.” Upon this the robber turned towards Nipher, having a pistol in one hand and a candle in the other, and was in the act of stepping into the flume, when Nipher fired. ‘Ihe robber staggered a few feet and fell, . and from the appearance of the wound must have died instantly. The verdict of the Coro. ner’s jury was that “deceased came to his death . by a ball from a pistol held in the hand of 8, T. Nipher, acting in self-defense.” The name of the deceased was Frank Le Blanc; he was a na. tive of Canada and about 28 years old. He has . been living around Bloomfield for the past six . or seven months, without occupation or visible means of support. When he entered the tunnel, he was fully equipped with a flour sack, . scoop, brush, candles and matches, a bowieknife and pistol, which were found on his _person. Nipher surrendered himself to the officers . at Bloomfield, was examined on Friday, and discharged. San Juan Scnoor Straristics.—From the . report of the Trustees of the North San Juan School District, to the County Superintendent, . we learn that there are 186 school children in . the District, between the ages of four and} eighteen years of age. Of these, 106 are boys . and 80 are girls. Number of children under . four years, 144; over eighteen and under twenty-one, 6; total number under twenty-one, 336. There is but one school in the District, which was kept up the whole year, with the exception of two vacations of three weeks each, ‘The total expenditures for school purposes during the . year was $1,249 40; receipts, $1,256 82—of. $393 07 received from the State school fund $72 34 from county taxes, and $791 41 by pri. vate subscription. Tur Evection.—The streets have been full . of people during the entire day ; the polls were constantly surrounded by a large crowd, and the clerks were kept busy recording the names of voters. No difficulties or disturbances of . any kind, worth mentioning, have occurred, ev. erything being conducted peaceably and in or. der. Atthe time of writing this, we do not know how the vote stands in this precinct, . though possibly the ballots may be counted before we go to press. The Republicans, judging from appearances around the polls, will poll a . much larger vote than was expected; but from what we know of the poor’ of this vicinity, we . are satisfied Douglas has a plurality. , . . . A FaLi.—Mr. Hixson’s new and “gubstan. tial barn, built of the splendid pine lumber, . raanufactured at the excellent saw mills in this . vicinity,” all of which—the barn, lumber and . mills—have been puffed into notoriety by the . Journal and Transcript, fell with a crash, last . Saturday evening. Mr. Asher, the ‘prompt and . cticient Constable of this city,” andthe two . mules which the horse doctor didn’t succeed in . killing, were in the barn when it fell. One of . Asher’s hands was badly bruised by some of . the falling timbers, but the mules luckily es. caped injury, ; ALARM OF Finr.—Abeout 8 o'clock, last Saturday evening, an alarm of fire was raised by the bursting of'a camphene lamp, in a bar. ber shop on Pine street. Fora few minutes . the flames blazed up, lighting the street, and exhibiting a prospect of an extensive conflagration; but the fire was subdued before any dam. age had been done. Both the hose companies were on hand with their tools, but the fire was . extinguished before theiz services were needed. ARRESTED FOR MURDER.—On Sunday af) ternoon John Rudsill, charged with them urder of a man named Cherry, in Carson valley, was . arrested at Vanderleith’s, by Constable Asher. . He was committed to jail, to be delivered over to the Utah authorities. Rudsill has lived at Gold Hill, in this county, for six or seven years. . He was on his way to Nevada when arrested, . Nor so FAR.—We copied anitem, last week, from the Grass Valley National, in relation to the accident to Gaylord and Whiting, while firing a cannon, in which it was stated that Whiting was blown fifty feet from the gun. It should have been fifteen feet. . . Anthony Brown, for manslaughter, on Tues? . . . tropolitan Theater, Main street, to give a per. manent relief can be expected. been adjourned"over for several weeks, at the request of counsel and clients, on account of the ion excitement, will be opened on Mon. day next, and proceed.with the regular business on the docket. Special Notices. —_ Sands’ Sarsaparila—For Purifying the blood —Health depends almost entirely upon the state of the blood. If the vitalizing fluid which pervades every tissue membrane, fibre, filament, gland or other organ, primary and subsidiary, be charged with the elements of disease, sickness must be the consequence, and until the cause is eradicated, no perItis here tha 'the powerful health restoring properties of SANDS’ SARSAPARILLA are manifested ; its searching operation reaches the germ of disease, and the cures it performs are therefore radical and thorough.
