& 1859. WEDNESDAY MORNING, NOV. 9, ——— Boarp or Surervisors.—The County Supervisors met on Monday, to transact the business of the rugular term. The bonds of G. W. Tallman and C.S. Rugg, Justices of the Peace elect, ) of T. W. Coleman, M. Murphy, S. L. Fuller and . J. MeBrown, Constables, and H. B. Thompson, Public Admisistrator elect, were approved. An . order was made, allowing the deputy foreign . miners tax collectors twenty-five per cent. on the amount collected by them. The license of T. ©. Emery, to keep a toll bridge across the Yuba river, at the place known as Emery’s Crossing, was renewed for one year from October Ist, 1859—rates of toll being fixed as here. tofore. In accordance with the petition of. numerous residents of Nevada and Washington townships, it was ordered that the road heretofore traveled between Nevada and Alpha, leaving the present road to the right about half a mile above the Central House, following the ridge, and coming in at the Twelve Mile House, . be declared a public highway. . The Board was engaged yesterday in exam. ining and allowing accounts, and adjourned to . meet again on the 30th inst. Seriovs Accipent.—Mr. J. W. Claussen, who resides at Gold Hill, bad both arms brokeo last Thursday, near Jenkins’ Ranch, on the) Washington road. He was riding down in) Weiss’ larger beer wagon, and while the horses . were traveling at a fast gait one of the wheels came in contact with a stump, turning the wag. on partially over and throwing Claussen out. . He had wrapt a blanket around himself to} keep from getting wet, and bis arms, it appears, . wore locked together in such a manner tliat he . fell upon them, and both were broken below the elbows—one of them in two places. He was} rendered perfectly helpless by the accident, but . the driver, assisted by another man who happened along at the time, lifted him into the wagon . and bronght him to Nevada. The broken bones . were adjusted by Dr. Trautman, and the injured . man is now at the residence of Mr. Riec, where . he is properly cared for. and is doing as well . as could be expected. We learn he has a fami. ly at Gold Hill. . Inquest.—Coroner Henry held an inquest . last Thursday on the body of a Chinaman which was found io an old shanty on Spring street, . the day before. he bad been badly beaten over the head, appar. ently with a club, but the Coroner found it impossible to obtain any reliable intelligence . as to the cause of his death. the shanty on Sunday week, by some of his . countrymen, and a Chinese doctor burned a/ considerable amount of paper in the room, according to their ideas of medieal practice, when . he was abandoned to his fate. died on Monday or Tuesday. One Chinaman said that his injuries were caused by the accidental discharge of a blast, another said that he got hurt while working in atunnel; but their stories were not believed. The deceased was buried at the expense of the county, as the . Celestials living in town refused to have any. thing to do with the body. . IIe probably County Hospitar.—From the quarter!y re. port of the County Physiciau, submitted to the . Board of Supervisors, we learn that forty-eight paticnts have been treated at the Hospital during the past quarter. Of this number, twentyfive were under treatment on the first of August . and twenty-three have been admitted Twenty-six have been discharged during the . quarter, which left twenty-two under treatment on the 6th inst. Only one death occurred in the Hospital during the quarter ; Mr. Charles. Swett, who was admitted on the 2d inst., diced . on the 6th, The total cost of maintaining the . Hospital for the past three months, was . $2,802 60, ; since, Biniy Bincu’s Mixstrers.—This company . gave an entertainment at the theater jn this) place ou Saturday evening. They had a full house, notwithstanding the severe storm which . was raging at the time, and the auditors left highly delighted with the evening’s amusement. . Billy Birch hae invented a number of new jokes, which being got offin his peculiar style, were received with roars of laughter, and the songs of Henry were vociferously applauded by an appreciative audience. The company perform. ed at San Juan on Monday and yesterday evenings, and are announced to give another entertainment here this evening. For Waswor.—The party whom we spoke of Jast week as making preparations to start for Washoe Valley, were eompelled to postpone their trip on account of the severe storm which . setin on Thursday morning. Mr. Meredith, however, accompanied by two others, started . np on Monday morning, but it is thought they . will not be able to get through on account of the snow which has fallen in the mountains above. Mr. Foster, the expressman, started for Washoe on Thursday morning. He doubtless suceceded in getting over the mountains, and unless he is detained by the snow will be back in two or three days. Tar Scuriier Festivar.—The German citizens of Nevada have completed their arrange. ments for celebrating the centennial anniversary of the birth of Schiller, the great German poet and author. The programme of exercises will consist of a torchlight procession, orations in German and English, the whole to conclude with a ball at the Court House in the evening. The German oration will be delivered by Mr. Aue, of Grass Valley, and the English oration by E. G. Waite, of Nevada. Covrt or Sesstons.—This Court met on Monday, that being tha commencement of the regular term. Strange to say, there was no criminal business to be disposed of, consequently a Grand Jury was not summoned, and the Court adjourned until the first Monday in January. We believe this isthe first time for several years that the Court of Sessions for this county has met without having more or less criminal business before them. CiorninG, ETc.—Sol.
