WE MISS THEE AT HOME.
thee at home, we miss thee,
“jawed sloped without bidding adieu
And prayers have since daily been offe
That somewhere you’ll get your full due.
That to wish you might ever be haunted
With visions your conscience could trace,
Would be useless, for villians like you, sir,
Don’t have that invaluable grace.
And the friends that once kindly availed thee,
Of ‘‘means’’ all thy wants tu supply,
Never dreamed of thy acting the scoundrel,
But they’ve now found a different reply.
The shadows of evening are gathering,
O, where is the wanderer now;
The hailstone’s like hen’s eggs are falling,
Let us hope they may visit thy brow.
But bear on thy bosom this message,
We'll watch thee where’er thou mayst roam,
And if ever you want a good flogging,
Just make your appearance at home.
Strange but irue Story.
A great many strange things happen, and
sultvely escape publ Biwatios, which, if made
known, would produce more than a passing
remark. For a long time we have heard nothing stranger or truer than the story we are
about to relate.

When Thomas Galloway was twenty-four . may favor us with o call,
years of age, he married a widow lady of about
the same age, ina village away down in the
State of Vermout. The lady had a daughter,
Mary, by her first husband, who, at the time of
her second marriage, was two years of age.
Just one year after Gallowey’s marriage, bis
wife died. Little Mary was sent to live with a
family of the name of Plunkett, in a neighboring ae aud Galloway left upon a whaling
or some other expedition. He cruised the wide
world and wide seas over, wandering from
plage to place, and finally settled in Dearborn
county, Iudiana, twenty years having elapsed
since the death of bis wife. He afterwards
thought of visiting his old Vermont bome, but
he had beard from good hg he that his only
brother, John, had taken his departure, and
that little Mary bad grown up to womanhood,
married, aud emigrated he could not ascertain
where. Having no other ties or affections to
draw him to the place, he scarcely ever gave
it a passing thought.
Shortly after settling in his new Indian home,
he became acquainted with a young widow, and
notwithstanding the disparity in their ages, he
married her. Some three weeks after this marriage, he discovered by his wife’s account of
her early life, that she was no other than his
own step-child Mary. She had married five
years before. and her husband, James Lachlan,
met with a violent death in a clearing two years
afterward. About three years after Galloway’s
second marriage, be happeved one day to be in
Lawrenceburg, on the Obio river, six miles
from his residence, when a man by the name
of Galloway was drowned off a steamer at the
wharf, The body was recovered in Galloway’s
presence, and from the appearance of the features, and corresponding name, he began to
entertain a vague idea that it might be his only brother Jobn, Information gained from the
captain of the boat, strengthened by the suspicion be had formed, and ascertaining that the
unfortunate man bad a family in the vicinity,
and at the time of his death was on bis way to
the west to enter land, Galloway resolved to
return with the captain and find ont the truth.
He did sv, and found his suspicions correct.
His brother had a large tract of land, a large
family of children, fur the most part girls, and
a wife in ill health,
deceased brother’s wite, he concluded to take
charge of the farm, Accordingly he went back
to Indiana, sold his eflects there, and in comer with his young wife, returned, has been

More Romance.—Oune of our fashionable mansions iu the Fifth avenue has lately been the
scene of a romance which will furnish Joho
Brougham with an incident for a new play.
Mrs. A—— bad a very bandsome nursery maid
whose speech was flavored with the least bit of
brogue in the world. She also had a daughter
furnished with every regular accomplishment,
and dwelling apart from the vulgar in the saered city of Hoopdom. Mr, A—— told his wife
that Mr. L——, one of the wealtbiest Southern
merchants and a bachelor, was coming to dine
with him on the following Sunday, Great were
the preparations for that day’s entertainment.
Gouraud’s store was called upon for cosmetics;
Phalon to lend one of his most inspired barbers;
aud the handsome Edwin Brookes for a pair of
those delicate kid shoes, which. when on a lady’s
foot, walk into the heart of a man atan electric
raw. The lovely Rosa Matilda, dressed to kill,
was introduced to the Sonthern Croesus, but,
unfortunately, at that minute the nurserymaid
eutered the room with her young mistress’s fan.
It was went. wini. wici, (as Tucker would say,)
and next day the Southerner propesed to the
angelic Biddy. They were quietly married, and
are now sojourning at Long Branch in that moJasees condition called the honeymoon.
Marryina Tat Presipent.—There is a rather
improbable story started by the Washington
writers, that Mr. Buchanan is to marry a Miss
C., of Virginia; and that his neice, the elegant
Miss Lane, who is now the mistress of the White
House, is to marry an English nobleman of
great fortune, Tt is said that there has never
yet been a child born iu the White House.
Prorounp Rerixcrion.—I have often observ
ed at a public entertainment, that when there
is anything particular to be seen, and everyimmediately stands up, and effectually prevents anybody from seving anything.
PREFERZNCE For No, 5.—The Stamford ( Eng.)
Mercury mentions the death of a woman ninety
ears of age, who had seven husbands, and by
er will, she ordered that she should be buried
next her fifth, Tryings-on show that there is
a choice in both gloves and husbands,
Time Sue was Marriep.—Mies Isabella Cass,
daughter of the General, who lately married
the Dutch Minister at Washington, is only forty
years old,
Tue Independence Belge states that a young
lady living in Hanover has been sentenced by
a court of that town to a fine of two franca “for

Upon the runiry of that fuid. If the skin is in an unnatural state, as in Serofula, Leprosy, and all Uleeron:
Diseases, it is evident that the vessels which ramify over
the surface of the body must be charged with diseased

must be a purification of the vital stream. The great olject, therefore, is to ascertain what remedies wili act most

The undersigned, desirous of acquainting those who may
be unfortunate enough to be similarly afllicted, where a
vermauent relief of their sufferings may be obtained, feels
it his duty to thus publicly express his most sincere gratitude to Dr. L. J. Czapxay for the permanent recovery of
his health. Borne down by the distressing symptoms in

youth; depressed in body and mind; unable to perform
even the most trifling duty imposed upon the daily avocations of life, I sought the advice of many physicians, who
at first recarded iny disease as of trifling importance—but
alas! after a few weeks, ana in several instances months,
of their treatment, I found to my unutterable horror, that

of little consequence, I despaired of ever regaining my
health, strength, and energy; and, asa last resort, aod
with but faint hope, called upon Dr. CzapKay, who, after
examining my case, preseribed some medicine which al
most instantly relieved me ofthe dull pain and dizziness in
my head. Eneouraged by this result, 1 resolved to place
toyself immediately under his care, and by & strict obedience to all his directions and advice, my head became clear,
my ideas collected, the constant pain in my back and

my whole body on the slightest alarm or excitement, the
misanthropy and evil forbodings, the self-distrust and want

resolution, the frightful, exciting and at times pleasurable

C A R D.—Prompted by an honest desire of my heart, 1 .
wish to lay before the public a case which deserves a high .

EPILEPSY, which, owing to my inability to meet the expenses consequent upon a thorough medical treatment, .
and the discouragement which I] met with on attempting .
it, soon vecame such (as I was then led to believe) as to
defy the skill of any physician. I was frequently while in
the pursuit of my calling, thrown down to the ground,

Shall Nature, swetving from her earliést dictate,
Self-preservation, fall by its own act?
Forbid it Heaven.
The indulgence in secret practices is the most certain,
though not always the most immediate and direct avenue
to destruction, Physicians of allages have been most
unanimously of opinion that the loss of one ounce of the
seminal secretions, by unnatural aid or emissions, weakens the system more than the abstraction of forty ounces
of blood. One of the first writers on medical jurisprudence
state that three fourths of the insane owe their malady to
such abuse. ;
How important then, it is—for every one, having the
least cause to suspect any trouble in that way, to attend
to it immediately; even one single occurrence should be
sufficient to cause doubt, and mueh more so if the person
had ever indulged inthe soul-killing habit. The treatinent used by the justly celebrated DR. J. C. YOUNG, in
cases of seminal weakness, impotency, sterility, nervous
debility and paralysis, (the last is the riost dangerous and
when it once occurs, incurable,) is not surpassed by any
hysician in the country. It is the same as that follo: ed
by him for years, under the guidance of the world-renowned Record of Paris, and Acton of London. Dr. Young’s office is at the corner of Montgomery and California streets,
where he can be consulted on that and all other private diseases, with the utmost confidence and secrecy. Dr.
Young will warrant a perfectand permanent cure, or make
no charges.
N. B.—Letters enclosing $10 will receive prompt attention. The Doctor’s time being so much taken up that he
cannot attend to letters unless paid for it.
CARD FROM DR. J.C. YOUNG’S Private
Medical Office—To the Afllicted—In this age of proprogress when science is almost miraculous, everything in
common place is looked upon as not worth notice. In view
of this fact, Dr. Young, (corner of Montgomery and California streets, up stairs,) has concluded to leave the beaten track hitherto pursued by most scientific physicians,
(that of waiting for the publie to ®nd you alone,) and publish to the world as much as may be, his knowledge of
the healing art, to let those are in need of assistance know
where they can find relief without being imposed upon.
In continuation of this subject, Dr. Young would say,
that for the past ten yesrs he hax pursued the practice of
medicine in one of the largest cities in the United States,
with the highest success, and that his standing asa physician is without reproach, having at one time been a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania on venreal diseases.
Upon these considerations, Dr. Young has confidence in
introducing himself to the public, knowing that they will
sustain well earned merit.
The following are a few of the many testimonials which
haveappeared in the public journals within the last few
years:
{From the Boston Medical Journal.]
Although we are opposed to the system of advertising,
for guod and sufficient reasons, still we deem it but justice
to say that Dr. Young is one of the most industrious and
indefatiguable votaries of medical science in the United
States.
[From Professor Jackson. .
The subscriber is personally acquainted with Dr. Young,
ard has seen much of his practice, and can bear testimony
te his inerits as a practitioner.
[From the New York Herald.}
The eminence of this distinguished gentleman in his profession, and the very extended opportunities possessed by
him for the observation of venereal disease, makes services
invaluable to those aflicted with the above complaints.
{From the Whig and Advertiser. ]
All afflicted with private complaints should if possible,
consult Dr, Young, whose medical education is not surpassed by any Physician in the Country. In his skill, hon
or and integrity, all may rely with safety, while most of
the medical practitioners in this city are without honesty
or respectability, their pretensions being grounded in ignorauce and assumption,
Important to Miners, Travelers, &c.
here is no malady of deeper importance, either ina
medical or moral point of view, to which the human
family is more liable, than that arising from impure connections,
Asa medical man it is the duty of every physician to
look at disease as it affects health and life, and his sole object should be to mitigate, as far as lies in his power, the
bodily suffering. Human nature at best is but frail, all
are liable to misfortune.
Of all the ills that affect man, none are more terrible
than those of a private nature. Dreadful as itisin the
person who contracts it, frightful as are its ravages upon
his constitution, ending frequently in destruction anda
loathsome grave, it becomes of still greater importance .

ing the care, how necessary it becomes that every one haying the least reason to fear that every one having the least
reason to fear that they have contracted the discase,
should attend to it at once by consulting some physician
whose respectability and education enables him to warrant
a safe, speedy, and permanent cure. In accordance with
this necessity, DR. YOUNG feels called upon to state that
by long study and extensive practice, he has become perfect master of all these diseases which come under the denomination of venereal, and having paid more attention to .
that one braneh than any other physician in’ the United
States, he feels himself better qualified to treat them,
Syphilis in all its formas, such as Uleers, Swelling in the
Groins, Ulcers in the Throat, Secondary Syphilis, Cutaneous Eruptions, Ulcerations, Tetuary Syphilix, Syphilis in
Children, Mercurial Syphilitic Affeetions, Gonorhea, Gleet
Strictures, False Passages, Inflamation of the Bladder and
Vrostrate Glands, Exeoviations, Tumors, Postules, &e., are
as familiar to him as the most comsnon things of daily observation.
The Doctor effects a cure in recent cases in a few days,
and finds no difficulty in curing those of a long duration,
without submitting the patient to such tieatment as will .
draw upon him the slightest suspicion, or oblige him to
neglect his business whether within doors or without.—
The diet need not be changed except in cases of severe inflamation,

secrecy which he always preserves.
