breadst i ign . uffs from San Francisco to foreign . undue influence of her said husband, and she does Aevala Hemocrat. LOCAL MATTERS, PERSONAL.—We had the pleasure yesterday of an introduction to Mr. Geo. F. Price, editor of the Yreka Union, and Democratic candidate for Elector. “Mr. Price, McConnell and others addressed the people at Grass Valley on Thursday evening, and Mr. Price was to have spoken in Nevada yesterday evening; but in consequence of the stormy weather the meeting was not held in this place. Mr. Price started for Sacramento this morning, to fill some appointments below, and. purposes returning to canvass his own county the week preceding the election. ALARM OF FireE.—About five o’clock this afternoon an alarm of fire was raised, caused by the burning out of a chimney in the National Exchange. Both the Hose companies turned out promptly, and No. 2’s, haying but ashort distance to go, had their hose attached to the hydrant at the corner of Broad and Pine streets, when the word was passed up that the fire was extinguished, THEATRICAL.—An entertainment was given yesterday evening at the Metropolitan Theater, by Pickering & King’s Dramatic Troupe. The attendance was not very large, owing, perhaps, to the storm. The principal attraction is Miss Louisa Paullin, a versatile young actress of considerable promise. They give another entertainment this evening. Lec Broxen.—A German named Christian Braber, who lives on Greenhorn creek, about eight miles from Nevada, had one of his legs broken below the knee yesterday morning. He was engaged with another man in rolling logs when the accident happened. The broken limb was set by Dr. Wickes. RgPuBL1can GuNn.—A small cannon arriyed in town this afternoon, and was deposited in front of Beans’ store. On inquiry, we learned that it was purchased by the Republicans of Nevada, to celebrate their first victory. The prospects of having any use for it are not very encouraging. Naturalizep —Twenty-seven persons were naturalized this forenoon in the District Court, and will be entitled to vote at the next election. Werlearn that the most of the new voters are for Douglas. Their names will be found in the Court proceedings, in another column. ASHMORE’s MELODEON opens this eveftiing. The performers are Messrs. La Font, Sheppard, King, Sevori, the Taylor Brothers, and the Bingham Family. Admittance, only fifty cents. WE are under obligations to Wm. Stone, the newspaper agent of Nevada, for sundry favors in his line; also, to Jno. Pattison, of the Pioneer Express for the Downieville papers of this morning. Ratn.—It commenced raining a little after noon yesterday, and has continued steadily up to six o’clock this evening. It is probable that considerable snow has fallen on the summit. JouN HERTZINGER was discharged from his debts and liabilities, in the District Court, this forenoon. Dwetiineg Burnep.—The dwelling house of Mr. H. H. Hyde, near Little Shasta, in Siskiyou county, was destroyed by fire on the night of October 7th. The Yreka Union says: The flames broke out about 11 o’elock, and are supposed to have originated from the igniting of a wooden cross-piece in the chimney. The progress of the fire vas so rapid that Mr. Garrison and family, who were living in the house were compelled to escape by the window of the bedroom, without being able to save anything. Fortunately the wind kept the flames from the barn, and out-buildings, thereby preventing . a great destruction of valuable property. The estimated loss is about $1,100. Grares.—From present indications, as we learn from the Bulletin of the 17th the Los Angeles grapes are likely to be driven out of our market by the great success attending the culture of the vine at points nearer and more accessible to this market. The high rate of freight charged by the) Senator, from the south, operates very pre. judically to southern growers, who will in. the future be obliged to manufacture all . their crops into wiae, as fonr. cents per pound will not pay for their importation here. We notice sales to-day of two tuns. of grapes, from Napa and Sacramento, at . four and five cents per pound. . . Returnep.—The Sonera Democrat, of . October 13, says : Oar old mountaineer friend, Capt. Stod. dart, who was reported last week to have . been frozen to death on the Summit, while returning from Mono, arrived in town a . few days since. The Captain was lost . for about a week on the mountain, and . came near starving and freezing to death. il leiatascimnacen Exports,—The shipments of grain and . and eastern domestic portsfor the last quar. ter foots up as follows: Flour, 40,359 barrels; wheat, 402,563 bags; barley 45,570 . bags; oate, 48,018 bag, . _ Special Notices. Sands’ Sarsaparilla—for.Purifying the blood —Health depends alniost entirely upon the state of the blood. If the vitalizmg fluid which pervades every tissue membrane, fibre, filament, gland or other organ, primary ahd subsidiary, be charged with the }‘ elements of disease, sickness must be the consequence, and until the cause is eradicated, no"permanent relief can be expected. Itis hare that the powerful health restoring properties of SANDS’ SARSAPARILLA are manifested ; its searching operation reaches the germ of disease, and the cures it performs are therefore radical und thorough.
