ADDRES: *alL COMMUNICATIONS TO 4 STATE BOXMRD OF CONTROL . SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA “> 43/7 : if TO THE INSTITUTIONS: On July 27th, there went into effect an amendment to the orphan aid law. By this amendment, the ege up to which state aid is allowed was increased from fourteen to fifteen years. All children who have e had their fourteenth birthday previous to this date may, if there is continued need, be reinstated on the state's demand. If their names have appeared on a vrevious application, it will be necessary only to write us a formal letter of notification. If the child's name has not appeared on an application, it will be necessary to i4ie@ a new biank. The law was also amended in such manner. as to render the abandoned child eligible to whole aid instead of half orphan aid. This will allow aid up to the sum of $100 per year to all children who come under this classification, if their circumstances warrant it. This increase in aid will be subject to approval by our children's agent. LG 2s Pus ther peowised. under the amendment, that all applicants * : for aid have a two years residence in the state ‘before they be grant¢ ed any aid from the state fund. May we urge you once more to give us a monthly report of all discharges from the state aid list, and the reasons for same, in order that we may nave the date necessary for our monthly audit. This will enable us to have an exact knowledge, at any time, as to how much money is being exvended for the support or orphans, half : orphans and abandoned chilcren. We are sending you herewith a list of children's books compiled : by the state libeary, which may be used for the children under your care. The following plan has been suggested: lf there is in your county, a County Library, you may secure ; these books through that organization, if there is not, the State Library will send them to you in lots of twenty or under, if demanded, 4 provided your institution will pay the expressage. This, of course, 4 will not be a large amount. The advantage gained will be so great : that we feel sure your institution will be more than happy to avail itself of this privilege. If you will write to this department, a making request for whatever of these books you wish, we will see that . they are sent you from the State Library. : Yours: Very a , : Rca et . “ i 4 4 j Deeecra .
