NEVADA COUNTY MINING REVIEW the completion of that road came to California, where he has since resided, Col. Stone is eminent in his profession and is one of the best informed men on railroad engineering and construction in the West. He has been connected with the Southern Pacific as a contractor for a number of years, and is now engaged in building a line through San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Col. Stone is also a keen, far-sighted business man, and, noting the trend to a revival of the mining industry, identified himself with valuable properties in Nevada County during the past two years. He is intereste in the Reward at Nevada City, and president of the company operating that property; the May of the Nevada district; Shamrock, Merrimac, Kentuck and Norambagua near Grass Valley, and several properties in Brown’s valley, just over the border line of Nevada County, in Yuba County. L. P. Goldstone and R. C. Wolrath, well-known mining men, are associated with him in the latter property, and are developing it with a fine plant capable of delving into the bowels of the earth to the depth of 800 to 1000 teet. Col. Stone is enthusiastic in his belief in the future greatness of this section asa mining center, and is backing his opinion by liberal investments. He is also president of the Peoples Home Savings Bank of San Francisco, now in liquidation, and vice-president of the Los Angeles Railroad Company. An active, intelligent business man, a public-spirited citizen of strong convictions, and enjoying a war record of honorable, courageous and effective service, it can be truthfully said of Col. Stone that he has made an eminent success of life. we ates 5 ~=as J Be all? a nig bara ENS , a3" ba 4 ne A “40 “oy g/ eae CP GATe, 7 BAG ee a A . ie. t4 144 .
