Mr. Lowell tested some of his crucibles by placing lumps of silver ore in them and heating
them till the contained gold and silver was me!ted and stood in drops on the outside of the
rock, and the crucibles were not even blackened. He makes tubes for amalgamating tubs
which chemicals cannot affect, and contemplates
the manufacture of sectional stone-ware bottoms for tubs, to take the place of the ironones
