Hevaila Democrat, . LOC AL MATTERS, County Retunns.—The Supervisors met . yesterday morning, pursuant to the statute, to . open and canvass the county returns; but the precinets of Omega, Bowman’s, Camden and Sebastopol, not being in, they adjourned until . two o'clock. The Omega returns came in by . the stage, at noon, and the Board having heard . that the polls were not opened at the other . three precincts, opened the returns and set <lown the vote of the other precints. The work was completed at noon to-day, and we have merely time to give the total vote for State Superintendent and the leading county officers; STATE SUPERINTENDENT. PPM 2080s concen senccssesct De The average majority of the Republican candidates for Assembly was 949. In our next we shall give for reference, a table of the county vote. The Supervisors will adjourn until next Monday, before declaring the result, as it . would hardly be legal to do it until the returns from all the precincts are in, or until the time for bringing them in has expired. Drrictency.—It has been ascertained that there is a deficiency in the accounts of J. B. Van Hagan, late Sheriff and ex-officio Tax Collector, in the sum of $1,802 56, collected on the tax rolls of ’59, ’60, and 61, and which was never paid over to the Treasurer. In the course of collecting the delinquent taxes, under the new law, the District Attorney has gathered up receipts to the amount above stated, signed by Van Hagan or his deputies, for taxes that had seen returned as delinquent. The Supervisors yesterday made an order. directing the District Attorney to notify Van Hagan and sureties of the deficiency, and if the same is not paidin a reasonable time, to commence proceedings to collect it. A portion of the amount was collec. ted by Phil. Moore, who, perhaps designedly, neglected to mark it paidon the assessment roll. The whole amount, we presume, will be paid over to the county without suit. Townsuip Orricers.—The following are the names of the Justices and Constables elected in the several townships of this county: Vevada—Justices, E. W. Smith, W. P. . Hervinggen. Constables, Jos. B. Gray, S. Venard. . Grass Vailey—Justices, L. R. Sours, M. P. O'Connor. Constables, C. C. Townsend, W. . . i H. Toothaker. Rough & Ready—Justices, A. A. Smith, 8. 3%. Davenport. Constables, John Perkenpine, John Carter. Bridgeport—W.C. Holt, Jackson Roberts. Constables, W.S. Edwards, Robert Huckins. Bloomfield—Sustices, D. P. Walter, Wm. . McDonald. Constables, J. Rathbun. Eureka—Justices, Ira Stanley, L. P. Tenney. Constables, O. D. Babcock, C. P. Evans. Washington—Justices, A. Root, J. Holbrook. . Constables, F, Ff. Marker. F, Sprecket. . M. Bush, L. D. Little York—Justices, Joseph Gardner, R McGown. Munson. Constables, M. Coombs, W. L. A Buiaut Inza.—We have heard it suggested, by a staunch Union man, that in view of the present critical condition of affairs in and about our national capital, that it might be prudent to turn the tables on our “Southern brethren,” and induce some European power to interfere in behalf of the Government, and assist in putting down the rekellion. It is thought that the Government would have less difficulty in obtaining assistance from abroad than the South has had. Tue Maaic Art.—Mons. Herrman, the renowned professor of the magic art, performed . at the Theater last evening. He is by far the beat performer in his line that ever visited Nevada, and perhaps the best in the world. Many . of his tricks are unaccountable, and fairly par. take of the miraculous. He gives another en-. tertainmnent this evening; every body should) see him. Favit.—Dr. A. Chapman presented us yes. terday a box of the finest plums we have seen . this season. They were of the Bradshaw and . Imperial Gage varieties, and grown in his orchard near Cement Mill. The Doctor has one . ofthe best orchards in the county, and the. . trees this season are loaded with fruit. A EvropgaAN VESSEL PASSES THROUGH THE Lakes.—Chicago was considerably stir. red up on the 23d ult., by the arrival of the . brig Sleipnir, Captain Waage, direct from Bern, Norway, with emigrants and goods. She . fer Bergen on the 23d of May, with 150 passengers; arrived at Quebec on the 6th of J . where she remained until the 10th; arrived at Montreal on the 11th; passed throu *h the Welland Canal on the 2ist, and reached Detroit on the 25th. There she left forty passengers, and started for Lake Michigan, arriving at Chieago on the 2d August. She is the first European Pong vessel ever navigated through the kes, although not the firet that has passed through ¢ the Lakea, en route fer Kurope. Special Notices. A MIDSUMMER .
