H ‘ } } ae ‘Put. Moore A DeractTER.—We have been “assured by several responsible gentlemen ‘from Nevada, that the rumor was authoritatively current there, of the “secession” from the State by overland mail, of the Hon. Phil. Moore, with perhaps seven or eight hundred dollars of funds in his hands, belonging to ‘the county, obtained by virtue of lis office ‘as Deputy Collector of Nevada,'Grass Valley . dwelling were at supper in another room of and Rough & Ready townships. When Sheriff Van Hagan heard of the departure, he gave pursuit into the villey; but learning that Moore had two or three days the start ‘of him, abandoned it. It is not known exactly what amount of money Moore had in ‘hiép' Ossession, but it is presumed it will not exceed the amount above stated. Sheriff ‘Van Hagan has no security. Moore's bonds ‘were regularly made out at the time of his appointment ; but the Sheriff had so much confidence in his honesty, that he never re‘quired them to be signed. We understand ‘that Moore telegrdjiiied from one of the over‘Yand “gttitions to Martin Brannan, the Aspessor, that he intended to stop at Salt Lake, from which place he would remit “the small amount of change in his possession.” There is little doubt but he will take refuge in some one of the seceded States, where repudiation and defalcation, perpetrated in the North, are regarded more as a virtue than a crime. a San JuaN THEATER AssociaTION.—A meeting of the stockholders was held on Monday ‘evening, to hear the reports of the Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Directors of the Association. According to the report of the Secretary, Mr. C. H. Hayes, the total cost of the Theater building was $3,800; of which $2,900 had been paid in dh account of stock, and about $700 received as the proceéits of ‘the Dedicatien Ball, and from all other sources. A debt of $200 yet remains to be liquidated. An election of officers for the ensuing year was held, with the following result: President, R. H. Farquhar, Esq. ; Secretary, C. H. Hayes ; Treasurer, Dan. Furth; Board of Directors, Messrs. C. Schardin, T. G. Smith, W. H. Sears. METROPOLITAN MINSTRELS.—Really, we have "not been more pleasantly entertained at any iptace of public amusement, for a long time, than in witnessing the performances of this excellent troupe at the new Theater on Tuesday evening. Their instrumentation and vocal powers are of no mean order ;' tlie selection of airs was made with taste and discretion; the wit was generally original and good; and the entire exhibition such as might be patronized by people of the most refined sensibility. Pretty little Miss Lotta sung and danced with her accustomed spirit. Miss Virginia Lawrence has a stperior voice. She is ‘an attractive addition.'to the company since it last visited this place; sings in admirable voice; gesticulates gracefully, and wins, as she merits, frequent rounds of applause. So well were the audience pleased, that they tossed money on the stage to the young ladies, in acknowledgment of their fascinating abilities in ‘the line of their profession. The house was slim, owing to the high rate of admission. The ‘company would do a vastly better business per‘forming at 50'cents. Large numbers of people reathed the door, and hearing that a dollar was ‘charged, refused to purchase tickets. Those who were present, however, enjoyed a very rare treat. -@ Recrvuits.—The following list‘embraces a portion of the names of volunteer recruits from this place and vicinity, who are determined to mntke good their word by reporting to Col. Lippitt for duty, at San ‘Francisco, viz: Merrill Savage, M. Devany, ‘Wm. J. Roulett, Wm. Harvey, A. R. Manley, 'G. P. Stickle, Theopolus Metzgan, E. L. Keenan, J. J. Hill, Samuel Winans G. S. ‘Dickey, Martin Worth, Robert Silas, M. Sax‘ton. Brave boys! Hope they wil! remember, if ‘any fighting is to be done, to give a good ‘account of themselves. Mintna) Accipent.—Mr. J. Wagner had ‘his right arm broken above the elbow by a ‘eave in the McDowell claims, Manzanita Nill, on Friday, the 2d inst. Dy. M. A. Kelly was called in, who administered surgical relief, and the patient is rapidly improving. 7° Deer Creek Tusnei.—tThe first regular clean up in this stupendous work (near the Anthony House, 6n the Marysville road,) after the arduous labor of nearly seven unrequited years, and at an outlay of $70,000, occurred on Saturday, the 3d inst., yielding the sum of $1,178. The work is cut through solid granite for a distance of 6,581 feet. The entire bed and banks of the creck for the distance of a mile and a quarter above, belong to the company, who have every reason to believe the ground rich from the satisfactory nature of the “prospects” which it has invarably afforded. Their faith, combined with their large expenditure, deserve to be handsomely rewarded. a pie SS : Fine ParntrncG.—Our attention has been called recently to several beautiful specimens of ‘painting, graining, and imitation work, the credit ‘of which is te be given to our skillful young ‘friend Jimmy Carpenter. The finish on the ‘couttter of the McGuire arag store, is especially ‘worthy of praise. -—§ e-—__-—__ —-— Mountain Fruir.—The many fine gardens in this vicinity sre just beginning to pour Nheir tribute of ripe fruits into the market. Mr. J. W. Greene publishes an order in the Nevada papers for members of this company, volunteers from Nevada county, to report themselves at the Theater building of Nevada city, without delay, to await marching orders. He says “a few more good men are wanted” to complete the company list. ster z REMOVED.—Mr. Pete Brust has removed the lower saloon of Schardin & Brust, to the upper saloon of Schardin & Co., where he fhyites his old friends to give him a call. a Miss Epitn MircueLi.—We are advised by her agent, Mr. Sheridan Corbyn, that this lady will in a few days make her appearance at the San Juan Theater with a well selected company, and perform one or more cyenings. Tue Brave Intsn.—Who will say hereafter that the Irish citizen is not-loyal to the flag ‘of his adopted country? If any dhe, let him think of the gallant 69th New York Regiment. To the Editors of the Pacific Medical and Surgical Journal :—Gentlemen—My attention has been called to an article in the December number of your journal, in regard to the ad eundem degree granted by the Philadelphia College of Medicine to Dr. L. The ad eundem degree, as its pame implies, is conferred on graduates only, and gives us new privileges. Had there been the sli suspicion of irregularity, the application would have been refused.
